Roy Campbell-Moore presents a photography exhibition based on a Theatr Brycheiniog 2013 production of The World Behind Walls by Jessie Brett and Addisu Demissie. Taken throughout the theatre, the photographs reveal a multi-layered portrait of the gritty side of the performance and the beauty of the dance being captured in still image. Campbell-Moore will be Theatr Brycheiniog’s Dance Photographer in Residence for 2014 and this is his first project in association with the theatre. Funded and supported by Arts Council of Wales and Dancers Career Development.

Featuring the work of more than twenty women artists, mainly from the Brecon area, the exhibition includes painting, printmaking, stained glass art, sculpture and more, based around this year's chosen theme of 'Mother Earth' The exhibition and festival launches at the theatre on Friday 7 March at 6.00pm. www.breconwomensfestival.co.uk

SEEING CHINA This exhibition explores the Royal Geographical Society with IBG's historic collection of maps and photographs of China from 1850 onwards. The legacies of several centuries of contact between Britain and China provide a backdrop for contemporary issues such as global migration and identity, alongside an examination of complex shared, and often unequal histories, of these two countries.

Internationally acclaimed photographer Juliet Eden presents Streets of Eden Photographic Exhibition. The exhibition features quirky street photography taken at Porthcawl Elvis, Cardiff Mas and Brecon Jazz festivals.

Dr Toby Driver of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales will describe 30 years of aerial investigation, showcasing some of the major discoveries along the way and also some of the unresolved questions.

PART OF BRECON WOMEN’S FESTIVAL 2014

The discovery, in the drought of the 2013 summer, of a previously unsuspected Roman fort to the east of Brecon shows how much original work remains to be done and how aerial discoveries can still fire the public imagination.

WITNESS: PORTRAITS OF WOMEN WHO DANCE Witness - Portraits of Women Who Dance, follows three exceptional dancers as they collaborate in the making of their own choreographic portraits in this revealing film documentary. The three women talk candidly about their relationship with dance, performance and what it is to be watched. Witness first premiered at Chapter in 2012 and since then has toured the UK. The unique performances that result are both elaborate and supremely personal: as idiosyncratic as the women who dance them.

Political decisions and divisions from 1960s continue to shape the current world and in Dammed Nations, voices from two seemingly unconnected communities unite on stage recalling the fates of the village of Capel Celyn in North Wales - lost to the waters of the Tryweryn Reservoir - and the traditional Nubian homelands in Aswan, Egypt drowned with the construction of President Nasser’s High Dam. DYLAN THOMAS:

CLOWN IN THE MOON Celebrating 100 years since Thomas’ birth Clown In The Moon (the title of a poem written when Dylan was 14) is a dramatic portrait of the poet's chaotic, frequently hilarious, and all too brief life. This solo show is directed by the awardwinning director and actor Gareth Armstrong (Shylock, My Darling Clemmie, Rape of Lucrece, Becoming Marilyn) and is written by award-winning writer Gwynne Edwards (Burton, Dylan Thomas in America).

TOP OF THE WORLD

THE MUSIC OF THE CARPENTERS Kim Dickinson was touched by Karen Carpenter’s breathtaking voice, and by the wonderful arrangements of The Carpenters’ beautiful songs. She became, and has remained, one of their greatest fans. Now Kim transports her audiences with the natural and uncanny likeness of her voice to that of Karen Carpenter. Kim has supported The Beach Boys and Richard Marx over the last couple of years and her own country album was number 1 in both the Independent European Charts and The Nashville Showcase charts. Throughout the show, Kim will deliver the songs that made Karen Carpenter famous Close to You, We’ve Only Just Begun, Superstar, For All We Know, Song For You, Top of the World...

FAUSTUS Nominated in the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, the Faustus triumvirate are three of the leading lights of their generation: Saul Rose (Waterson:Carthy, Whapweazel), Benji Kirkpatrick (Seth Lakeman Band, Bellowhead) and Paul Sartin (Bellowhead, Belshazzar’s Feast). They have a plethora of experience between them, brought together here in a virtuosic display of musicianship and testosterone. Rooted deeply in the English tradition, in 2007 they received a 75th Anniversary Award from the English Folk Dance and Song Society.

Faustus came together in 2006 as an evolution of the award winning band Dr Faustus. They made an eponymous debut album in 2008, produced by Stu Hanna and released by Navigator Records, which saw them nominated as the Best Group in the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Subsequent touring saw them headlining at festivals, as well as playing sell-out concerts at arts centres and clubs. Ceffylau blaen y genhedlaeth newydd o ganu gwerin. MARY SHELLEY

CLYWD THEATR CYMRU

UNDER MILK WOOD BY DYLAN THOMAS

Clwyd Theatr Cymru present Under Milk Wood, a work of genius; ripe with vitality, rich in humour and populated by sublime, eccentric, enchanting characters. Come to Llareggub, a small Welsh town by the sea. Meet blind Captain Cat, Mog Edwards and his sweetheart Miss Price, Sinbad Sailor, Dai Bread, Polly Garter, Nogood Boyo and Lord Cut Glass. Walk along Coronation Street, Cockle Row and Donkey Street, down to the little fishing harbour and back to Milk Wood. Dylan Thomas explores their lives, hopes and thoughts in the dreams of a night and the rhythm of a day. Both a play and a poem, written from the heart, it offers an unforgettable journey into the roots of language and the soul of Wales. This new production, directed by Terry Hands, marks the centenary of Dylan Thomas' birth in 1914 and the 60th anniversary of the play's British premiere.

A PLAY BY HELEN EDMUNDSON PRESENTED BY LAMDA (LONDON ACADEMY OF MUSIC & DRAMATIC ART) Helen Edmundson’s 2012 play brings Mary Shelley’s philosophy-fuelled and scandalfilled life to the stage. A woman caught in a mesmerising struggle between her heart and her head, Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, would go on to shock and fascinate generations to come. An amateur production by arrangement with Nick Herne Books. LAMDA’s tours allow their graduating actors, stage managers and technicians a fantastic training experience and give audiences around the UK and Europe an opportunity to see the stars of tomorrow’s dramatic arts before they graduate into the industry. HOUSE AND THEATR MWLDAN PRESENT THE PERTH THEATRE COMPANY/ WEEPING SPOON PRODUCTION

THE ADVENTURES OF

ALVIN SPUTNIK: DEEP SEA EXPLORER In a highly imaginative fusion of animation, puppetry, projections, live and recorded music, master storyteller Tim Watts tells the tale of Alvin Sputnik, deep sea explorer, and the search for his lost love in the seemingly endless depths of the ocean. This exquisite multi award-winning one-man show is a unique and charming performance that’s emotional, uplifting, touching and funny – a heart-warming and beautiful experience that’s a remarkable pocket masterpiece of invention, staging and performance.

On a future Earth whose ice caps have melted, rooftops barely provide escape from the rising waters. Our lonely hero Alvin, heartbroken after the loss of his beloved wife, hears a TV plea from Earth HQ seeking a daring soul willing to find a lost oasis at the bottom of the sea that might just save humanity. Using a constantly creative, beguiling and quirky blend of live action, puppetry, animation, music and film, Australian genius Tim Watts tells his story of love, loss and quiet heroism with engaging energy and an enchanting magic.
