Stoke-On-Trent Train Station Manager Virgin Trains September 2016 - July 2016 Train station development with real client. In Collage I did a concept for the current train station. I worked with the virgin train manager to create a brief for the development using AutoCAD and Sketchup to create visualisations for the final presentation with the client producing a 1:1000 scale model which is being presented at the collage at every event.

an alternate path Maggie’s offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. We do not want to suggest there are better or worse ways of dealing with cancer. Any way that helps anybody going through cancer to feel better is fine, with the important proviso that any service offered in the building will be approved by the Professional Advisory Board and will be complementary and not alternative to orthodox medical treatment.

an alternate path I thought that I did not want to make a building for the sick. The building needs to be designed for the healthy, we are all cancer sufferers, this building must be uplifting and not one segregated from the world. It is a building about us all wellbeing in the same world. To create the feeling of curiosity and excitement must be achieved to create this building. The rooms of the building shoot outwards towards to south opening to maximum solar gain and views to the canal. Each space has been designed separately to create curious spaces adjusting heights walls and materials.

an alternate path The colours used allow a close relationship with the user’s experiences. Blue means stability, loyalty and confidence. Orange means creativity, freedom, expression and happiness. Green means growth, harmony, freshness and safety. The use of clear floor plan decision making is important for this scheme as the way finding must be identifiable to all age groups and feel like a home yet feel exciting and uplifting as this is an important feature

Solid is carried into the building creating a confident and strong building for the users. The solid continues inside to give a more bold statement creating confidence in the users experiancE. SOLIF VOID

The permeable approach allows the user feel more relaxed. Visual connection is greatly important to Maggie centre users it allows them to feel more open rather than trapped in their situation.

an alternate path The building has been generally developed in four stages. These steps are clear and complex, the use of organizing the spaces allow for clear understanding of spaces. Sustainability is important and allows an intimate connection with nature and users. The landscape allows the users have a range of path options to allow for meditation, private walk, outdoor activities and seating areas.

an alternate path Sections have been designed to keep a flat level to respond correctly to the site restrictions and allow the users to be able to access all spaces of the building. The internal spaces have therapeutic features such as high ceilings, angled roofs therapeutic paintings and more all these features where successful in the Zaha Hadid Centre which I interviewed. The approach of the site clearly shows the mixture of water into the scheme due to our humanly relation to water. The building facade compliments effectively with the landscape.

an alternate path The construction had to be carefully thought about because on the architecture. The fascia was decided to be minimal and designed as an upstand. The roof and wall are made of glulam beams and the hyperbolic roof gives the major therapeutic space an uplifting feeling, which is made of glulam beams each set differently to create the hyperbolic effect.

INTERNAL WALL DETAIL 200mm Thick internal wall comprising of an outer leaf of double layered plaster board 12.5mm each against 150mmx50mm timber stud against double layered plaster board 12.5mm each.

GLASS ROOF DETAIL 300mm thick timber flat frame roof comprising an outer leaf of 10mm zinc panel finish and DPM attached to 10mm plywood sheeting.

Against 2x 100mmx50mm timber fill. Offseted from the edge 25-30mm with plasterboard with skin and paint under top trim by glass roof specialist against metal strip with sealant against density foam blocking bolted to plywood and wood block. Holding the VRS system by vitral or similar refer to schedule and spec for further details.

HYPERBOLIC PARABOLIC ROOF 300mm thick timber flat frame roof comprising an outer leaf of 10mm zinc panel finish and DPM attached to 10mm plywood sheeting.

Against 200mmx100mm engineered timber filled with 200mm cellulose insulation with 20mm plywood sheeting on 150mmx50mm rim joist with joist hanger. Fascia aluminum coated (edge grip parapet cap) against 15mm cedar shake siding on 20mm cor-a cent ventilation. Inner leaf to be finished with double gypsum 12.5 mm each plasterboard, to be finished with 3 coats of eggshell.

EXTERNAL TIMBER WALLS 400mm thick timber frame walls comprising an outer leaf of 100mm cedar shake siding on diagonal battens and 30mm diagonal furring attached to 20mm continuous mineral wood insulation. Against flood proof sheeting to receive wall sheathing with 250mmx100mm engineered timber filled with 250mm cellulose insulation with 3 30mm radius service pipes. Inner leaf to be finished with double gypsum 12.5 mm each plasterboard, to be finished with 3 coats of eggshell.

Smethwick Creative Studio The project is to convert the 7-story building into a unique studio collective which reaches beyond fine art and crafts to encompass more creative disciplines. This cultural development would potentially have an economic impact in the area. Studio spaces will be provided for creative people in the area as well as providing spaces for visiting artists. The workshops/spaces should reflect on the rich history to the world of arts such as glassmaking including stained glass making, pottery but could include for new crafts such as ceramics, metal, photography. Artists and craftsmen/craftswomen intermixed together in a unique setting.

Smethwick Creative Studio The main designing was through the section. To give the illusion that floors are floating and creating dynamic voids using broken glass. Each floor has a separate function however with the flexibility aspect of this scheme floors uses can be merged into one. The voids allow for cantilevered floors overlooking other spaces ensuring a visual connection from floor to floor. The green wall on the right has been chosen due to its positive effects with increasing creativity for the users.

spectrum house I was required to design and produce for presentation proposals for a sustainable/zero carbon experimental house comprising a kitchen dining room, living room, study together with 4 double bedrooms together with ancillary accommodation all suitable for 8 adults. The design must be adaptable so that it may be initially placed on the sloped site next to the School of Art building and with a minimum of wastage be dismantled and moved to a flat site to the rear of the refurbished Springfield building.

spectrum house Sustainable and Zero Carbon buildings do not need to be boring or unattractive. The main approach was the use of a mixture of prisms which came from the historic resemblance of the motto ‘from darkness comes light’ and what better to resemble this than a prism. Each space has been made from prisms which overlap into each other to create a relationship between the spaces. A large thermal mass wall runs through the building form to act as a thermal feature as well as an architectural feature.

ReGreeneration The brief of this project was to create social housing for a large brown field site in the heart of Wolverhampton just outside of the Ring Road. Your design must be represented in its wider context. Some drawings will be supplied, and you will be given a tour of the site. A mixture of housing needs to be available to suit all kinds of people. Some large buildings on site are Grade II listed and must be redeveloped. Also, a strategy of the Ring Road must be considered.

Main Approach of Cinema Complex The brief was to create a cinema complex with 3 cinema screens 2 holding 200 people and 1 holding 300 people. With a cafe holding 100 and restaurant holding 200. On a brown field site near the city enter of Wolverhampton. The approach I went for was to ensure the people had a strong cinematic understanding and feel for the place. The entrance of the site is heavy and strong and shows authority and strength. The cinema was divided to go underground allowing for natural heating features. I also showed the floor plans in a dark theme to enforce the concept of creating a cinematic feeling.

The building is set over a historic path which I then opened and gave it historical cobble stone floor finish. The second entrance runs through the building and through a pedestrianized area with a large urban space allowing for future events and expansion of the project.

THE ARCHITECTURAL INSIDER I started YouTube summer 2018 and it made me expand my reach of helping people. I struggled in ways that I found difficult to find help for and I wanted to make sure no other student must go through this. YouTube is a way of communicating to other on how to be better, especially in this society we can reach much more people using social media. Teaching people while entertaining them, how else do you want to learn. I want to pursue this even while working to allow people understand how it is working and studying as an architecture student as most people do not know what is coming when starting architecture.
