The Department of Biotechnology was established in 1993 to excel both in academic and research in frontier areas of biotechnology and allied subjects. The focus is to provide a world-class learning environment with a state-of-the-art infrastructure for hands-on training and industrial exposure which facilitate students to get readily absorbed in reputed industries. The department has three extended centers for skill development, entrepreneurship, and start-ups, namely: The Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in Agro & Industrial Biotech, Science & Technology Entrepreneur Park (STEP), and Centre of excellence for food security. Some key highlights of programs offered under this department are the capstone project providing academic and intellectual experience by combining the principles of biology and engineering, an industry internship program which enables practical learning in a professional engineering setting, research projects, and international collaborations.
