Welcome to a brand-new season at the Theatre Guild of Rockingham County! We are thrilled to have you join us as we embark on an incredible journey through our 2024-2025 season, which we’ve titled : This season is all about celebrating stories of resilience, courage, and the indomitable spirit that drives us forward—on stage and in life. We have an exciting lineup of shows that promise to inspire, entertain, and leave you feeling unstoppable!

October: Disney's The Descendants This highenergy musical brings the children of Disney's most infamous villains to life as they navigate the complexities of being good or evil in a story that reminds us all of the power of choice, The Descendants is the perfect way to kick off our unstoppable season.

November: A Piece of My Heart A powerful drama that tells the true stories of six women who served in Vietnam, this poignant play takes us through their experiences during the war and their struggles to reintegrate into society. It’s a deeply moving tribute to the courage and sacrifice and a reminder of the strength it takes to heal from the scars of war.

March: Akeelah and the Bee Follow young Akeelah Anderson as she overcomes obstacles and defies the odds to compete in the National Spelling Bee. This heartwarming story is a testament to the power of determination, the importance of community, and the unstoppable spirit of a young girl who refuses to give up on her dreams.

June: Matilda Based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl, this musical tells the story of an extraordinary little girl with a big imagination and even bigger dreams. A story that celebrates the triumph of good over evil, Matilda is the perfect finale to our unstoppable season.

We are beyond excited to share this season with you, and we can't wait to see you at the theatre. Thank you for being a part of our vibrant community and for your unwavering support.

Casting Shows

The Theatre Guild has been successful in its ability to attract on-stage talent, skilled technicians, and experienced staff members from Rockingham County and beyond. We would like to take a moment to explain how individuals are chosen to perform or staff our shows. Please understand that the Guild's number one goal for each performance is to create the best theatre experience possible for everyone including the actors, staff, and audience.

The hiring of the staff (which includes any combination of director, musical director, choreographer, stage manager, set builder, costumer, props manager, sound technician, and lighting designer) is handled by the Artistic Director prior to auditions and casting for any given show. The director, music director, choreographer, stage manager, and producer (production team) collaborate with the auditions chairperson to create a smooth, open, and exciting audition atmosphere. The Guild never pre-casts shows, and everyone is required to audition before being offered any role. Ultimately, the decision of casting a show falls on the production team.

Open Auditions

Besides individual talent, the production team must take into account the available roles, actors' rehearsal availability, age, height, chemistry, and many other factors. Even the best actor may not be cast in a show if they do not fit the director's vision. The Theatre Guild of Rockingham County invites everyone to audition for every production, and utilizes non-conventional casting where not prohibited by the show parameters. A priority is placed on cultivating local talent, but this should not discourage people from neighboring communities for auditioning (or seeking to be on staff).

We hope this information has provided a better understanding of the Guild's casting process as well as encourage new faces to come out and audition. We look forward to seeing you at our next audition!

The Nail: Joining our past to our future...

Historically, many actors consider a bent nail from the stage a good luck piece. TGRC's Bent Nail tradition started when tow bent nails from the stage of Peter Pan (1998) were welded together. Since that time, the nail has been passed from show to show, when each director selects a cast or staff member to wear the charm during the performances. Receiving the nail is a very special honor within TGRC and the announcement of the recipient is eagerly anticipated by every member of the production
