he information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Kenya is witnessing a phenomenal growth. Indeed, the traditional way of communication is becoming obsolete as the entire world adopts other modes of communication such as, use of the internet and telecommunication besides easy money transfer and some other forms of Management of Information Systems (MIS). The full benefits of this sector services however are yet to be realized since they include e-learning, e-commerce, e-governance etc. In order to realize the full benefits of e-services therefore, the society will be required to develop skills to effectively utilize the available ICT tools to customize the services that are unique to the environment. It is apparently clear that ICT is extremely vital in development and the planned Malili Techno City in Makueni County will spur economic development in Kibwezi constituency and Makueni county at large. Kenya's Vision 2030 aims to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Kenya by transforming employment markets, enhancing social infrastructure and securing good governance. Konza Technology City embodies this thinking. Designed to be a beacon of excellence for not only Kenya but all of Africa, the city represents an ambitious vision of a modern, inclusive and sustainable Kenya. Konza Technology City is based on successful new town projects around the world and draws on international best practice to ensure global competitiveness.

The ICT services distribution system is extensive, modern and available to at least 80% of the population in the country. The system has grown very fast in the past decade driven by private sector players such as Safaricom, Orange and airtel besides other players. Kibwezi constituency is ideally placed for high speed, high bandwidth communications, being along the main route for long-distance fibre-optic cables between Nairobi and Mombasa. This will offer a complete modern telecommunications package of high-speed internet, telephony and video services. Kibwezi constituency is a proud owner of a community radio station (Mangelete 89.1 FM) which is purely a women groups' property. The radio station enhances harmonious living amongst our people, teaches the community on ways of generating income through farming and small business initiatives and even addresses constituents on social lifestyle issues that affect our society at large. This is a station I have supported for a long time. Such support includes staff emoluments, electricity connection, renovations settling of its huge electricity bills. Further, I am in consultation with our local mobile telephone companies Airtel and Safaricom to fast track its network in areas which have been left out. So far, Masongaleni, Kyanginywa and many other areas are benefitting from this initiative.
