1979 1997 2012 2017 2020+

Teter Consultants is established in Visalia by Glen Teter with a goal of providing exemplary structural engineering services and building a legacy firm for future professionals.

Fresno office opens to expand the firm’s A/E offerings for an evergrowing geographic marketplace.

Bakersfield office opens to better service Kern County clients.

TETER opens offices in Modesto and San Luis Obispo to service clients in the North Valley and Central Coast and reaches a milestone of 100 staff across its five offices.

TETER has spent four decades developing long-lasting relationships with our clients and each other, building a firm with a broad reach and a deep understanding of Central California.

When Glen Teter founded TETER in 1979, the first and only service provided was Structural Engineering. As a licensed Structural Engineer, Glen was singularly focused on providing uncompromising engineering services to facilities large and small, ensuring that designs were code compliant, practical, and lasting. Now, 43 years, 5 offices, and 130 professionals later, these core tenets of our client service and solutions are as relevant as ever and have been instilled in every one of our professionals hired since Glen’s early days, Engineers and Architects alike.

As the firm grew, Glen empowered each of our new hires to think and perform as an integrated design team, ensuring that no matter the project, practicality, function, and superb quality are always held in as high regard as aesthetics. This pragmatic commitment to client solutions and integration with creative architecture has resulted in decades-long relationships with our amazing clients, thousands of successfully and beautifully completed projects, and tangible outcomes toward our guiding mission:

Building a Better Valley.

BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE AG SCIENCES BUILDING

The 3-story, 42,000 SF ag sciences building is designed to reenvision the southeast entry of the Bakersfield College campus. The main 3-story building houses state-of-the- art lab spaces for food, animal, plant, soils, and forestry sciences. Indoor classroom space contains two large lecture and computer classrooms as well as office spaces for the agricultural department deans and faculty. As the College makes efforts to move toward carbon neutrality, special design considerations were implemented to ensure the structure would exceed Title 24 requirements by 15%.

Bakersfield College’s existing Administration building has been transformed into a new Welcome Center for Bakersfield College students and visitors alike. The location of the existing building lends itself to that of the feeling of the “front door” of the campus. The modern, high tech design is likened to that of an Apple Genius Bar, providing students with friendly and helpful service.

This two-story faculty office building is designed to accommodate campus growth and house faculty offices, support and conference space. The aesthetics of this state-of-the-art facility complement the architectural style of existing campus structures while adding a unique focal point and destination to this part of the campus. TETER worked closely with faculty on the program to ensure that the building meets their needs.

> MODERNIZATION EXPERIENCE

Building new schools is a luxury. Many schools across California were built decades ago and are in need of upgrades — some significant, some not. TETER works with local school districts to maximize funding resources and bring facilities into alignment with contemporary learning and teaching styles, while providing updates to satisfy current safety and code requirements. TETER will work with your district to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions to your modernization needs.

Some of TETER’s K-12 modernization clients include:

8
STANDARD ES MODERNIZATION STANDARD SD

The modernization of the historic Standard Elementary School campus started in 2018 and finished in 2021. The project began in response to a master plan that identified needs for additional classrooms to accommodate student growth, along with a need for major site and infrastructure improvements. The site features four new classroom buildings, new library/administration building, and a reconfiguration and modernization of the Multi-Purpose Building. TETER’s architects and engineers worked together to minimize the overall duration of phasing. Cost-effective building solutions were provided to develop a classic school design that blends with the existing campus vernacular.

Standard School District

The Stanislaus County Office of Education needed an upgrade to the interiors of its main offices. In addition to making improvements to each department, we consolidated all the meeting rooms into one seven-room conference center for trainings, meetings, and seminars. Working closely with each department, we established their specific design and workspace requirements and developed a detailed phasing plan that moved employees around during construction with minimal disruption to operations. The new space is brighter and more inviting, with new lighting and finishes, new mechanical systems, and a new formal entry and receptionist for each department.

Buildings at Dutcher Middle School needed to be upgraded and replaced, however the school needed to remain fully operational during construction. TETER met with challenge with a detailed phasing plan to guide the school through the temporary relocation of portables, while bringing impacted buildings up to current code and accessibility standards. New classroom buildings improve site circulation and accessibility while providing new outdoor gathering spaces for students and staff. Further alterations brought improvements to the gym, locker rooms, multi-purpose building, and classroom spaces.

> BUILDING ADDITION EXPERIENCE

Building additions are a great way to alleviate classroom overcrowding, accommodate increases in enrollment, and create spaces for facilities that have outgrown or outlasted their current needs. They also provide an opportunity to rethink campus circulation and accessibility while bringing new life to aging campuses.

LEMOORE UNION HS BUILDING ADDITION & PLAZA

Lemoore Union High School District

Lemoore High School’s gym had reached almost a century in use, a point where upgrades and retrofits no longer made sense financially. The school chose to demolish it to make room for a new structure. The new academic building doubles the number of rooms, and includes six classrooms, five labs, a choir room, teacher prep rooms, restrooms, and support spaces. A gracious new plaza overlooks a striking Lemoore Tigers mosaic on the east end of the building with shade structures and seating providing outdoor gathering spaces for students.

TULARE UNION HS BUILDING ADDITION

The Tulare Union High School campus dates back to the 1920’s and has undergone multiple modernizations since that time. A need to consolidate scattered science classrooms and laboratories and provide an administration office with secured access led TETER to design a new two-story building to house both science and administrative functions. The new building welcomes students and visitors onto campus through a new secure entrance. The building’s design reflects the modern influence of existing two-story buildings by incorporating existing colors and decorative tile accents.

The two-story classroom building addition at Redwood High School is the newest building on Visalia Unified’s oldest campus. TETER designed the building as part of a campus transformation that includes a new student plaza. The new building respects the site’s historic surroundings while the new student plaza improves campus circulation and safety.

> STADIUM DESIGN EXPERIENCE

Upgrading the athletic facilities of a high school campus provides an exciting environment for students, staff, and the entire community. Stadium upgrades can support student athletes from multiple athletic programs for years to come. TETER’s designers and engineers will consider your athletic spaces as opportunities for collaborative, hands-on learning, while also creating an opportunity for community gatherings and sporting activities.

Some of TETER’s K-12 stadium and athletic facility design clients include:

16
STADIUM EXPANSION MADERA SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL

With a field too small for JV soccer and seating areas that lacked amenities of any kind, District administrators, staff, players, and the community were all ready for a change. We huddled with the athletic director, the district, and bleacher providers to come up with solutions to their long wish list: new bleachers, a larger synthetic-turf field for JV soccer and football, synthetic track, new main entry, new concession/restroom building near the entrance and a restroom/ storage building at the far end of the field that serves softball, as well. Even visiting teams now have their own bleachers.

For half a century, Selma High School’s stadium served the community well…until it didn’t. A complete re-think of their facility resulted in a new state-of-the-art stadium that will serve both school and, during off-hours, the town. Working within the fixed boundaries of streets, tennis courts, and gym buildings, we designed a field that allows both football and soccer, with a track where state meets can proudly be held. The bleachers have added capacity and accessibility, and a 4’ raised plaza at the end of the field near the new concession building creates an informal hang-out spot during games.

Orosi’s stadium was old, pieced together over time and barely functional. When funding became available through a bond measure, TETER worked with this long-time client to design a state-of-the-art facility that fit their budget and space requirements. With input from the District and community via a series of design charrettes, we designed a new track with nine lanes that can host any regional competition. Other improvements include: new LED lighting, a new grass field, new visitors’ ticket booth, new seating for 3,000, new concession building, and a jumbotron video screen scoreboard. Now Orosi has a facility that the whole community can enjoy—and does.

> MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM EXPERIENCE

In many ways, a multi-purpose room (MPR) serves as the heart of the campus... a home for shared events and milestone experiences for students and the community. From lunches to award ceremonies, your MPR must be properly planned and remain flexible to accommodate a multitude of events. What sets TETER apart from other firms are the unseen elements of your MPR program. We ensure the design for your integrated space considers acoustics, technology and mechanical systems, creating a functional and comfortable space for all uses.

This new school had significant community involvement in the planning and design process, resulting in a school designed specifically for the students’ and community’s particular needs and wants. The learning environment was designed to accommodate the latest in educational technology, with ‘smart walls’ in each classroom and a computer classroom in the library building. Energy-saving features in the design produced an energy efficiency 28% better than Title 24, and resulted in the client receiving $150,000 in rebates from PG&E.

With a school population that had grown by over 300 students since it opened over forty years ago, Sparkes Elementary School faced the problem of its multipurpose room having become far too small for its needs. TETER’s design for a new multipurpose building addition includes a greatly expanded kitchen with walk-in refrigerator and freezer, dry food storage space, preparation and serving areas, and dish washing space. Other design features include an elevated platform stage with new Audio/Visual system, a teacher/ staff lounge, larger restrooms, and storage.

The K-12 Wonderful College Prep Academy used TETER’s expertise in several facets of the school’s development, including a new multi-purpose building. The building features three regulation-size basketball courts for competitions and PE classes; retractable bleachers; boys’ and girls’ locker rooms; public restrooms; ample storage for sports equipment, and more. Acoustical treatments create excellent sound quality for everything from sporting events to school assemblies, music recitals, and even community concerts—all controlled from either the A/V room or a mobile iPad.

Creative and affordable sustainability solutions keep people healthy and costs down, while the classroom design promotes flexible, 21st-century teaching and learning. And even without fences, security is assured through visual monitoring points throughout the campus.

The rapidly growing Clovis Unified School District needed a new elementary school, and fast. The site happened to be a few blocks from Virginia Boris Elementary School, a TETER project they loved, so they asked us to reuse the plans with some modifications—a larger kindergarten drop-off, a different mechanical system, and finishes throughout that make it its own, distinct school. And the rush part? That worked out pretty well: the school went from contract to completion in just under two years, even though COVID-19 hit halfway through construction.

Stockton USD needed a new elementary school designed and built within two years. However, the property was only about sixty percent the size of an ideal school site. We used modular structures for all but the multi-purpose building to speed construction, designed a two-story classroom building to make good use of the site, and held several meetings with the neighboring HOA that resulted in a school whose materials and aesthetics blend in perfectly with the residential neighborhood.

Real-world career experience is not usually part of a high-school education, and that’s what makes this project so unique. Not only did we add a credit union branch to a high school campus, but this credit union offers students a rare opportunity for on-the-job training, right where they study. In addition to the banking space (which is open to the public), a flexible classroom and entrepreneurial finance lab allows budding businesspeople to set up their own pop-up shops with merchandise display areas, video displays, and financial-planning support.

Agriculture is big in Tulare County. So big that the District’s single ag farm has over 1,000 students enrolled from three high schools. This 90-acre site has livestock, a dairy operation, and field and row crops, but the old classrooms and labs were not functioning well for the students or teachers. We designed a new building that added four fully equipped science labs and two new classrooms, as well as a teacher workroom and prep space and director’s office. The remodeled entry now has a stronger public presence and affords the site greater security 24/7.

> MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS EXPERIENCE

TETER has provided upgrades to multiple K-12 transportation facilities throughout the Central Valley. Transportation yards provide districts with the unique opportunity to consolidate services, resources, and staff. Input from administrative staff and MOT personnel is encouraged early in the planning process creating efficiencies in design and uncovering solutions to complex problems such as: housing equipment, creating adequate staff office space, and consolidating storage from disparate sites.

When a downed tree demolished most of North Monterey County USD’s old bus maintenance facility, the opportunity to build a more up-to-date one arose. We worked within the given parameters to design a new facility that addresses modern maintenance needs and brings everything up to code. The vehicle maintenance garage features new equipment and exhaust and drainage systems, while redesigned offices give employees better work spaces, new restrooms, and a break room. With brand-new lighting, mechanical, and HVAC systems, the District is now realizing energy savings in addition to improved operations.

MOT FACILITY

This new multi-functional facility accommodates the District’s transportation administration, bus fleet servicing, and extensive warehouse and freezer storage capacities. Four bays service and maintain the District’s bus and truck fleet with provisions for four additional future bays while requiring only minor building modifications. Ancillary spaces accommodate all transportation administration and staff, provide for staff showers, multi-Use meeting Training Rooms and a break area. The loading docks and warehouse meet current and future needs for both dry and frozen product storage.

The relocation of this MOT facility from a small site in downtown Wasco to four acres on the edge of town opened up a world of efficiencies and cost-savings for the District. The building itself is a lowmaintenance, pre-engineered structure with a large, forklift-accessible warehouse and air-conditioned school supply storage. Buses and lawnmowers can now be serviced on-site in dedicated maintenance bays while an on-site bus-wash facility keeps vehicles clean. Department heads each have office space next to their operations while a generous break room can double as a training room.
