Ith ACtOrS like Bryan “Walter White” Cranston and perennial bald baddie Mark Strong rumored to be in the running for the Man of Steel’s arch enemy, Warner Bros have thrown an interesting curveball by casting the young star of “the Social network” Jesse Eisenburg as the the billionaire philanthropist/supervillain.

It’s shaping up to be a cracking cast and an interesting angle on the characters we know so well, with a world weary aging Batman, a young

cocky super intelligent Lex, this could be really good-although I would have loved to see Heisenberg go all Breaking Bad on Kal-El’s ass! Jeremy Irons don the butler suit to become the latest Alfred and if his Twitter feed is anything to go by, The Rockwho was also mentioned as a

potential Lex, could be the new Green Lantern. The Rock uploaded a picture with the hashtag “#JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss” in reference to the 2nd Green Lantern after Hal Jordan, who was played by Ryan Reynolds (in the much maligned GL movie) retired.

t SEEMS nOt a day goes by without a well known actor being linked to next year’s highly anticipated new Star Wars movie known only as Episode 7, the latest is no stranger to movie mega franchises, having already starred in harry Potter, Batman and soon the new Planet of the Apes saga. Gary Oldman has become the latest actor to reveal talks with the makers of Star Wars: Episode VII. ‘They’ve called,’ says Oldman, with Jj Abrams’s debut Star Wars feature due to shoot this year Oldman admitted he had been in discussions but gave no indication as to which role he might be playing in JJ Abrams’s revival of the long-running saga, and made it clear the matter was far from sealed. Speaking to Sky Movies while promoting José Padilha’s RoboCop remake, the acclaimed British actor said: “They’ve called, I don’t know if it’s, er … You know, I’m more cynical about it now. I’ll believe it when I’m on the plane home. The deal isn’t done, but yeah, they’ve inquired. I mean Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter, Batman and Star Wars ... bloody hell!” Oldman was referring to his roles in many of the best-known fantasy film sagas of all time. Other actors rumoured to have been approached include Alex Pettyfer, Saoirse Ronan, Michael Fassbender, Girls star Adam Driver, Hugo

Weaving (a rumoured Grand Admiral Thrawn), Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch and Simon Pegg. Zac Efron is the latest name tipped for a leading role: “I just went and met with [the producers]. So I don’t know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but…who knows?” Fans of the long-running franchise have voiced their concerns about the potential casting decision on Twitter, with one writing: “please don’t do this Disney!” Another recurring rumour involves a young female protagonist with American Horror Story’s Taissa Farmiga tipped to be the hot favourite. Back when Matthew Vaughn was tipped to direct Star Wars: Episode VII (before J.J. Abrams took the job), there was a rumor going around that he had pitched a version where Chloë Moretz – star of Vaughn’s Kick-Ass comic book movie – would portray the protagonist; most likely, a young Jedi and daughter to Han Solo and Leia Skywalker (i.e. some variation of the character named Jaina in the Star Wars “Expanded Universe” books that take place post-Return of the Jedi). Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons (the psychotic Todd) is also being considered for a role. The stars of the original trilogy, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, finally confirmed last week they will return for the next instalment.
