Teacher Appreciation Week

May 6-10, 2024

Help us to show our appreciation for all that our teachers do for our children. Thank you for all your encouragement to our staff throughout the past year and especially during this special week!

Monday - Our students are BLOOMING because of you! Pick some flowers and bring them to your teacher. Each unique flower represents each unique student in his or her class.

Tuesday - It is a TREAT to have you as a teacher! Bring a gift card (in whatever denomination) for your teacher. Your treat might be for a drink, a bite to eat, or for something else! Whatever you give will be appreciated!

Wednesday - Take a BREAK, FAST! Bring a breakfast or brunch item to join the other items for our teacher and volunteer appreciation luncheon. The brunch is on Wednesday, May 8, after chapel. You may bring your item to the school office and drop it off there. Please be sure to either bring your item in something that we can throw-away or be sure to write your name on your container.

Thursday - Throw back, Thursday! Give a WORD of encouragement to your child's current or past teacher(s) letting them know how much you appreciate everything they have done for your child.

Friday - RELAX! Our teachers deserve it! Bring your teacher something to help them rest and relax once they go home! Fuzzy slippers, a book, a special coffee mug, or a gift certificate for some extra pampering are some possible ideas that your teacher would appreciate.

PTL Officers Needed - If you would like to serve as one of our Parent/Teacher League officers for the new school year, please contact Principal Birnbaum by Tuesday - May 7. The PTL has one official meeting with the room-mothers in September to plan the Fall Festival and the Spring Auction. Pick some friends to help make this a great place to learn.

REGISTRATION papers are available, and the School Board set GREAT financial incentives for those who did not qualify for the Oklahoma School Vouchers. We even went down in registration fees since we went up in tuition. Contact Principal Birnbaum for more details.

YOU CAN HELP THE PONCA CITY HUMANE SOCIETY!

Can you help us? The student council is holding a "Needs Drive" for the Ponca City Humane Society. Beginning today, April 24th, and running through Tuesday, April 30th, we would like your class to gather all the pet food and cleaning supplies that you can. The class that collects the most supplies will win an ice cream sundae party and extra recess hosted by the student council. The winning class will be announced during chapel on Wednesday the 1st. Here's what we are collecting: cat and dog food (wet and dry), paper towels, spray disinfectant, bleach, Clorox wipes, laundry detergent, old towels, and anything else that would fall under the category of "cleaning supplies."

During the next week, bring your items to your classroom and the student council will be by in the afternoon on Tuesday, April 30 to count and collect what everyone has. We hope you will join us as we help our furry friends in need!

Principal Mr. Birnbaum- First round of Oklahoma Voucher checks were issued this week for five of our families that make over the $150K mark. Only 39 students have not received this blessing. Keep an eye out for your email and "for your chance to win" an almost all expense paid years education.

Keep practicing the letters and sounds for Letter Master, I will check that again on Friday. Our Bible words this week are, Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have. Hebrews 13:16 and Whoever hears My Word and believes has eternal life

John 5:24 Have a Blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Our ECE New Life Trails Field trip is this Friday the 26th. We will leave the school at 12:20 pm and head back to school at 2:30 pm. The fundraiser is open until Wed. May 1. We are looking forward to our trip to New Life Trails on Friday! If you are driving, we will meet at the front doors at 12:20. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for being outside around animals! Coming home today is a note about the upcoming field day. Please let me know if you have any questions. Book orders are due online by the end of today! In Social Studies we are continuing our unit on Economics. We will learn about producers and consumers, and about supply and demand. In Science we learn about the importance of food chains. Have a great week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Wow, we are approaching the end of the school year quickly, and BOY, am I soaking up every moment with your children! Check the dates on the front page of the chatter for upcoming school events (Wichita zoo April 26, track meet May 3; free lunch bbq at the Schatte Cookoff May 4; AR trip May 8). We are studying the American Revolution and planets as student choice learning. The kids are LOVING this. We are doing subtraction fact fluency tests so practice at home. AR GOALS are coming up and many students have a long way to go still. Best practices for helping your child in reading includes reading for at least 15 minutes every day. Make it fun and part of your daily routine!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Wow, what a busy couple of weeks! We have finished up our Social Studies and Science units. We will not have test in these subject till 4th grade =) We will be doing in class projects to finish the school year. Memory: 1 Corinthians 13:13 So now faith, hope, and live abides, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Reading: we are diving into How to Eat Fried Worms. Please ask your children about this, they are hooked. We will finish it next week, and this will help out our A.R. goals. Friday Test: Spelling, Reading, and 8x fact quiz. Field Trip: a field trip notice will be going out this week, please get those forms back to me as soon as possible. Wax Museum: Information going home about the date of this. I hope you all can join us. Remember out notes page is due by Friday. I just need to see that it is complete. I will send it back home for the finishing up of the projects. If you have any questions, please let me know! I love this project every year and look forward to seeing what these kids will do! Please keep the 8th graders and their families in your prayers this week. I love seeing all their pictures so far. Have a wonderful week!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: The First Lutheran Track Meet is next week Friday, beginning at 9 am in the gym. Make sure you have sunscreen on before coming to school and have money for concession stand. Continue to read for AR. Some have made or are VERY close to making their goal. Many have found that without nightly reading at home, it makes it very difficult to make goals ending on May 7th! On May 8th we will be going to the Gathering Place in Tulsa. We should be hatching eggs the beginning of next week. Look for a permission slip once eggs hatch. The end of the year is right around the corner; please encourage the kids to be the best they can be to finish the year up strong as we are definitely 5th graders in training! Some are taking to this challenge very well; others need other extra help to finish the year well.
