Why did you decide to get into real estate?

I grew up learning and understanding real estate. Being taken to different developments and construction sites was a part of my childhood because my dad is a developer. It was what we did on the way home from dinner as a family or out on a drive getting ice cream. My dad started his own business in development right out of college, and his passion for it was infectious and inspiring. This fact led me to have summer jobs in real estate sales offices and to speak to clients at a young age. I was learning how to engage with clients and build strong relationships and connections. I was initiating cold calls to gain business for the developments, and I was learning how to problem-solve when everything didn’t go as planned, which happens a lot in this business.

What do you do to stay grounded/ centered/sane?

I love reading to feel a sense of escape for a short time from the stresses the world can bring, as well as journaling to keep my ideas/thoughts in order.

How did your challenges shape who you are today?

I have lived a blessed life and consider the challenges in my past as learning experiences that have helped me become more worldly. It has not always been so easy to pay bills or stand up for things you believe in, especially in the workplace. Even though those times in my past were difficult, I am thankful for them now because I know I’ll be able to handle anything that comes my way.

Who has helped you get where you are today?

My dad pushing me to be the best I can be. Instead of doing things for me or even telling me how to do something, he showed me in his actions, and I learned all the best lessons through his examples.

As a 2021 Best-in-Class honoree, what are your words of wisdom for the next generation of real estate agents?

Starting out in this business is not easy. People will tell you it’s crazy to dive in headfirst without a backup plan — and maybe it is. They will throw percentages and timelines at you, such as “94% of real estate agents quit their first year,” or “it will take at least a year to make any money in this business.” While some of these instances may be somewhat accurate, do not let them get to your head. Do not give up or waver from the goals you wanted to achieve when you first decided to get into this business. Set your goals and a plan to reach them, work really hard to follow that plan and I guarantee you will find success.
