A Reform Congregation Embracing Our Jewish Tradition

Avadim Hayinu b’Mitzrayim; We were enslaved in the narrow place, but God redeemed us with an outreached arm and a mighty hand.

Annual TBT Second Night Seder Saturday evening March 31 6:00pm Join Rabbi Shuval-Weiner and Cantor Kassel for this popular evening celebration. We will read the Haggadah, sing, raise four glasses of wine and enjoy a festive celebration and family-style dinner. Open to all; members and non-members, adults and children; singles, couples and families; but reservations are required. Please call the synagogue office for more information 770-642-0434.

April 19-22, 2018—Artist in Residence In April we will welcome a very special artist into our TBT family, Beth Hamon. Beth is based in Portland, Oregon, where she serves as music-leader at Congregation Havurah Shalom. The daughter of nightclub musicians, Beth Hamon is a bicycle-riding, musical autodidact whose songs straddle the fuzzy line between Jewish and secular themes of justice, hope, renewal and love. A rising star in the world of Contemporary Jewish music, Beth tours as an artist and educator-in-residence at synagogues, community centers, coffee houses and camps across the country. Beth’s songs are sung at synagogues and camps in the United States, Canada and Israel. In 2016, a setting of a new egalitarian version of the threefold benediction was commissioned by Women of the Wall for use at their monthly gatherings at the Kotel in Jerusalem. In 2015 Beth was selected as one of the top five “New Voices In Jewish Music” by Forward magazine. A former professional bicycle mechanic, Beth creates Judaica ritual items from recycled bicycle parts. Some of her pieces are part of the permanent collection at the Yeshiva University museum in New York. While at TBT, Beth will join Rabbi Shuval-Weiner and Cantor Kassel on the bimah infusing our Shabbat services with her unique liturgical compositions. On Friday evening April 20th, our 3rd & 4th grade students will perform a special song, composed especially for TBT with inspiration from all the students. Check out YouTube to hear this new rendition of Ashrei. http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=uRsiy5p823A .

During the time Beth will be with us, she will interface with adults and students in our education programs-from the tiny-tots in the ECEC to the high school students of Kesher. Please mark your calendars today for what we know will be an exciting few days with this unique Jewish teacher/artesian. http://www.beth-hamon-music.com News & Happenings from Temple Beth Tikvah
