LIETUVIŠKŲ KNYGŲ SALA MANČESTERYJE

Sausio 25 d. Mančesterio centrinėje bibliotekoje tviskėjo trispalvės ir aidėjo lietuviški žodžiai. Šiame Šiaurės vakarų Anglijos mieste ir jo apylinkėse gyvenantys lietuviai susirinko į knygų lietuvių kalba lentynos atidarymą. Nuo šiol svetur gyvenantys tautiečiai miesto bibliotekoje galės rasti įvairiausių knygų gimtąja kalba ir jas skolintis į namus.

Idėjos bibliotekoje įrengti knygų lietuvių kalba lentyną ištakomis galima laikyti 2018 m. rudenį Mančesteryje įkurtą lietuvių bendruomenę „Žemyna“. „Kadangi mėgstu skaityti, mintis apie būdą su tautiečiais dalintis ir keistis knygomis man kirbėjo jau kurį laiką, – pasakojo „Žemynos“ pirmininkė Diana Valiukonienė. – Neseniai įsteigta bendruomenė patalpų neturi, o knygų nameliai Anglijoje nėra populiarūs, tad reikėjo kito sprendimo.“

Iš Lietuvos ambasados Londone D. Valiukonienė sužinojo, kad Lietuvos Respublikos švietimo, mokslo ir sporto ministerija rengia akciją – dovanoja po 50 naujų lietuviškų knygų užsienyje susibūrusioms lietuvių bendruomenėms. „Rengėmės 2019 m. Mančesteryje atidaryti lituanistinę mokyklą vaikams. Supratome, kad lietuviškos knygos labai praverstų mokant vaikus lietuvių kalbos ir perduodant tradicijas. Todėl nieko nelaukdama užpildžiau paraišką, – kalbėjo D. Valiukonienė. – Ryšiai su Mančesterio centrine biblioteka užsimezgė 2019 m. vasarį: buvome pakviesti dalyvauti bibliotekoje rengtoje Pasaulinėje kalbų dienoje. Parodėme lėlių

Nuo šiol Mančesterio lietuviai miesto bibliotekoje gali rasti knygų vaikams ir paaugliams, romanų suaugusiesiems, psichologinių ir filosofinių leidinių, net lietuvių klasikos. Mariaus Mariakino nuotraukos

Atidarydami knygų lentyną, simbolinę tautinę juostelę perkirpo Mančesterio miesto meras Abidas Chohanas ir lietuvių bendruomenės „Žemyna“ pirmininkė Diana Valiukonienė. teatro spektaklį Jūratės ir Kastyčio legendos motyvais, kurį sukūrėme lietuvių ir anglų kalbomis. Spektaklis bibliotekininkus sužavėjo. Ėmėme kalbėtis apie lietuviškų knygų lentyną bibliotekoje.“ Mančesterio bibliotekos vadovai į lietuvių idėją pažvelgė geranoriškai. Kitus dešimt mėnesių virė darbas: lietuvių bendruomenės nariai ieškojo knygų, o bibliotekininkai – joms vietos. Socialiniai tinklai mirgėte mirgėjo nuo lietuvių kvietimo: „Prikelkime knygą antram gyvenimui!“

„Mūsų prašymas buvo išgirstas, – džiaugėsi bendruomenės pirmininkė. – Kai kurie atvežė knygų man, iš kitų važiavome paimti. Esame dėkingi visiems, vienaip ar kitaip prisidėjusiems prie to, kad ši idėja virstų realybe.“ Negana to, dosni dovana pasiekė iš Lietuvos – vietoj Švietimo, mokslo ir sporto ministerijos žadėtų 50 emigrantų bendruomenei buvo padovanota net 80 naujų knygų.

Lietuvių bendruomenės iniciatyva iš viso buvo surinkta apie 300 leidinių. Knygos buvo pristatytos į Mančesterio centrinę biblioteką, įtrauktos į katalogus ir 2019 m. gruodį parengtos išduoti skaitytojams. „Norėjome surengti lentynos atidarymo šventę, tad suderinome datą su biblioteka. Džiaugiamės, kad tą sausio 25-ąją prie mūsų prisijungė ir Mančesterio meras Abidas Chohanas. Jis padėjo perkirpti tautinę juostą – taip paskelbėme, kad knygų lentyna atvira lankytojams“, – pasakojo bendruomenės pirmininkė. Šventės metu bibliotekininkės mažiesiems skaitytojams mielai aprodė bibliotekos užkulisius, papasakojo, kaip knygas skolintis į namus. Susirinkusieji vaišinosi specialiai renginiui iškeptu knygos formos tortu, vartė knygas, rinkosi, ką skaityti.

„Mančesteryje ir jo apylinkėse gyvena apie penki tūkstančiai lietuvių, tad tikimės, kad knygų lentynoje tik daugės. Šiuo metu čia galima rasi įvairiausių žanrų literatūros: knygų vaikams ir paaugliams, romanų suaugusiesiems, psichologinių ir filosofinių knygų, lietuvių klasikos, – vardijo D. Valiukonienė. – Praėjus maždaug mėnesiui nuo lentynos atidarymo, buvau užsukusi į biblioteką ir išgirdau puikų žinių – lietuviškos knygos skaitomos, žmonės jomis domisi. Taigi mūsų darbas jau duoda vaisių. Lietuviškų knygų galima įsigyti tik Londone arba siųstis jas internetu iš Lietuvos. Manau, tai, jog knygų lietuvių kalba nuo šiol galima tiesiog pasiimti iš bibliotekos, yra ir labai patogu.“

Rima Cicėnienė. The Potential of the Documentary Heritage 1 This year Lithuania celebrates the centenary of the restoration of its independence. On this occasion, authors of the heading „#Gyvasžodis, professionals in their respective domains, share their insights in how Lithuania‘s libraries changed during the recent three decades. This time our guest is the Vice-Director for Research of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences Dr. Rima Cicėnienė, who surveys the impact of UNESCO activities in the field of information and communication on giving impetus to changes in libraries‘ efforts to preserve the documentary heritage. A major objective has become to not only preserve the exceptional documentary heritage but also ensure its access. It has been realized that promoting and digitization of documentary heritage objects opens new possibilities both for research and culture and commercial solutions. Rima Cicėnienė makes it a point that transformation in this field, among other outcomes, has changed the users‘ information demands.

The Anniversary Not Overclouded by Hardship 3 This year Lithuania marks three decades since the contemporary Supreme Council declared the restoration of Lithuania‘s independence on 11 March 1990. In this issue, we publish several articles devoted to this anniversary. The first is about how the original of the act “Regarding the Restoration of the Independent State of Lithuania” with the signatures of its 124 signatories was put on display at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania for a single day on 5 March. We also present reminiscences by signatories of the Independence Act Jonas Prapiestis, Irena Andrukaitienė and Jurgis Jurgelis about the day of this exceptional document‘s signing. In other articles, Rožė Koriznienė, Danguolė Banevičienė, Danutė Pukelienė and Zita Sinkevičienė, who have been working at libraries since the restoration of the State independence, by looking back at the events of that time, compare today‘s professional prospects with those before the independence and Monika Straupytė, Matas Baltrukevičius, Roberta Stonkutė and Brigita Barkauskaitė, born after 1990, share their thoughts about life in an independent country and how they make use of this possibility for their self-realization. Elena Macevičiūtė, Zinaida Manžuch. How to Inspire Curiosity and Make it Long-Term 13 The world is increasingly recognizing the role of the librarian as a consultant and teacher of the digital literacy. Investigators make it a point that inability to knowingly use digital technologies condition digital divide. This divide is determined by the lack of motivation. In this publication, researchers from Vilnius University Prof. Dr. Elena Macevičiūtė and Dr. Zinaida Manžuch analyze how curiosity could inspire participants of digital literacy training to get involved into the process of learning to use smart technologies. The insights have been taken from the study under the project KomiksLaB. The project was implemented by researchers from Vilnius University together with the Utena Antanas and Motiejus Miškinises Public Library, the Šiauliai Municipality Public Library and the Vilnius Municipality Central Library in 2018.

Rimvydas Laužikas. The UNESCO World Heritage. This Time About The Documentary Heritage 18 The Lithuanian National Memory of the World Register has been supplemented by six objects of the documentary heritage. The editorial board of Tarp knygų is preparing a series of articles presenting these documents of regional and national importance. In this issue, Professor at Vilnius University and Chairman of Lithuanian Committee of the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme Dr. Rimvydas Laužikas speaks about the origins of this Programme devoted to the documentary heritage, its structure (international and national registers), selection criteria for documents and how this Programme has been affected by information wars.

Viktorija Vaitkevičiūtė Verbickienė. A Bibliographic Work of Importance to Researchers of the Lithuanian and European Cultural Heritage 22 The heading “New publications” introduces the catalogue “17th Century Books at Kaunas Libraries” published by the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. This two-volume publication presenting books from 1601–1700 (containing descriptions of 1620 books (1754 copies)) has drawn the interest of a number of researchers. We present the review of this bibliographic work (the compilers of which are Sigitas Lūžys, Dr. Rita Urbaitytė and Irena Vitkauskienė) by the Head of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Unit at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania Dr. Viktorija Vaitkevičiūtė Verbickienė.

Marius Katiliškis’s Return to Pasvalys 24 The heading “Library and its Name” features the Pasvalys Public Library. The publication is about the inspiration to name the Library after the Lithuanian expatriate writer Marius Katiliškis (1914–1980). The library of Pasvalys might be proud of having a memory room devoted to Katiliškis – the fact evoking association with a museum. The room displays a rich exhibition of Katiliškis’s printed publications, manuscripts, photographs and personal belongings. Katiliškis’s heritage is introduced by employing an informative and educational computer terminal within educational programmes. The memory of this writer, who gave name to the Library, is cherished by organizing Marius Katiliškis Readings and presenting the Marius Katiliškis Award (Prepared by Toma Mikalajūnaitė and Vaiva Markevičiūtė)

Akvilė Tamošiūnė. A Unique Cognitive Game 28 It is a tough task to interest today’s young people in traditional events, but they get readily engaged in interactive and convivial activities which require creativity. The publication is about how the staff of the Šilutė Fridrichas Bajoraitis Public Library created a lively cognitive game, which became popular not only among young people but also adults. This interactive game, Grindopolis, created by ingenious hands of the Library’s staff has been tried by members of municipality’s council, the staff of the Tourism Information Centre of the Pagėgiai Region, visitors of the Šilutė Centre of Social Services and inmates of some social care homes.

Comparing What is Difficult to Compare 31 The publication is about an international standard, which, in the opinion of its drawers, will assist the world’s libraries in the implementation of their mission. The standard is introduced by the senior methodologist from the Library Science Unit at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania Dalia Jaskonienė. National libraries of various countries, while performing functions pertaining to all national libraries all over the world, have their own distinct tasks. Therefore their performance is difficult to compare. The international standard ISO 21248:2019 Information and documentation – Quality assessment for national libraries present and describe methods for evaluating performance of national libraries: performance measurement and evaluation of impact. Vaiva Markevičiūtė. An Island of Lithuanian Books in Manchester 37 Starting with the beginning of 2020, Lithuanians living in the NorthWestern England can find books in their native language at the library of Manchester and borrow them for home use. By the initiative of the Lithuanian community, some 300 Lithuanian publications have been collected (80 of these received from Lithuania), delivered to the Manchester Central Library and provided catalogue entries. This undertaking has proved its purpose: this service has become popular among the Lithuanian community.
