A Year-Round Mountain Paradise – The time is always “now” at Tamarack. NOW is always the best time to come visit, regardless of the season. In the spring/summer, there are over 40 miles of both lift-served downhill and meadow mountain biking, and various designated-hiking trails. Scott and Rod Givens were meant to build houses, After all, it has been integral to the Givens family for decades, passed down to each successive generation. Q: SO, WHAT DRIVES YOU GUYS TO DO WHAT YOU DO?

SCOTT: Right now we are working on the Ponderosa Ridge Villas. The Villas are located in a beautiful, forested area, directly adjacent to the Village. They are ideal for families looking for a four-season retreat that has unlimited outdoor recreation and amenities that appeal to every member of the family. ROD: The location is ideal, private, yet in the heart of Tamarack, which means owners have instant access to seasonal amenities and recreation, from skiing and fat-biking in the winter, to golf, lake, and hiking in the warmer months. These Villas make a great year-round retreat for residents.
Q: WHAT DO YOU THINK SETS ALTURAS APART FROM OTHER BUILDERS?
ROD: Well, there are certainly some good mountain home builders out there, but I think we have really honed-in on what our point of difference is over the years. Essentially, our goal is to deliver custom quality homes without the painful process, headaches, or delays.
SCOTT: We sweat the details and manage the production so that we stay on time and on budget. And most of all, we hope to always create a residence our customers will love and feel at home in.
Some of you skiers may have noticed the construction going on at the Mid-Mountain Lodge. After sitting idly by for a few years, it is now undergoing a major renovation and is slated to open by the end of the year. “This will be a great new amenity for our Members and guests,” says Scott Turlington, President of Tamarack Resort. “The Mid-Mountain Lodge will be a new social hub for families and friends, a place to warm up, take a break, watch the game, enjoy some food, have a drink, and socialize. We’re very excited to be able to offer this new amenity to Members, as well as our guests.”
The rustically elegant Mid-Mountain Lodge—which is accessible via Tamarack Express Chairlift during the winter and summer—will serve as a classic Food Hall, offering cafeteria-style cuisine, a bar, and various sitting areas. There will also be a private Club Lounge, just for Members. This will be a place to mingle and have a cocktail after a ski run or bike ride. As of now, the Lodge will be open during the winter and summer lift operations.
The views from the Mid-Mountain Lodge are incredible—looking straight out across the mountain to the lake. This will be an ideal venue for small to large-size gatherings, meetings, celebrations, and even weddings. There will be an expansive deck area and patio that makes for a stunning setting for any group. The panoramic views and indoor/outdoor facility are sure to make for a memorable event—as well as a place to make lasting memories.
This is a great addition to our overall golf program. It really expands the golf season to be year-round—Members can receive lessons, have practice sessions, and enjoy special Trackman events and tournaments during the winter. It’s already a big hit—and it’s a great tool to refine and sharpen your game.”

Come experience this latest, top-of-the-line technology, which is the ideal simulation resource for golf lessons, practice sessions, mini-tournaments, club gapping, and closest to the pin challenges. The Trackman library features 267 world-class courses, giving you plenty of options to tackle different terrain and hazards. And it’s available to Tamarack Members now! Jennifer and Quinn Johnson came up to Tamarack for Labor Day Weekend 2023. They were guests of good friends, and had certainly heard of Tamarack but never experienced it firsthand. They fell in love. “It blew us away,” says Jennifer. “We loved the mountain setting, the lake, and all the seasonal amenities they offer throughout the year.” In fact, they liked Tamarack so much, they came back for a personal tour in late September and wound up homeowners at the coveted Ponderosa Ridge Villas. Here’s what they had to say.
Q: SO, YOU CAME UP TO TAMARACK AND FELL IN LOVE? INSTANTLY?
QUINN: Pretty much, yep. We’re residents of Orange County, California, so we weren’t even in the market for a mountain home. But after their visit, we contacted the Sales Office, looked at various neighborhoods and homes, and ultimately bought a brand new, maintenance-free Ponderosa Ridge Villa.
JENNIFER: It was a great Labor Day Weekend at the lake, and we couldn’t believe all the amenities and recreation Tamarack offers year-round. We talked to our friends about it, and wanted to know more and more about the living experience. By the end of our visit, we had pretty much decided this is the perfect mountain community for us.
Q: WHAT MADE YOU PURCHASE ONE OF THE NEW PONDEROSA RIDGE VILLAS?
JENNIFER: We looked all over and toured different houses and Ponderosa Ridge Villa just felt right. We liked the fact it’s detached and private with great views of golf and lake. But even with the privacy, the location is ideal because of the close proximity to skiing, golf, and lake.
QUINN: The size and layout of the Villa is just right for our family. We have two kids—a high schooler and a college freshman—and they both love outdoor sports: skiing, snowboarding, water skiing, paddleboarding, biking, and so on. Ponderosa Ridge gave us quick access to all of it. So, the location, combined with the quality craftsmanship, and the basic flow and feel of the Villa, was perfect for us as a family.
Q: SO THE KIDS LOVE IT TOO, I IMAGINE.
JENNIFER: They absolutely love it….and the convenience of it. It’s so nice knowing that we can come up here whenever we want—throughout the year—to snow ski, or water ski, or play golf, or just enjoying this gorgeous Alpine setting. We never have to twist their arm to come up here.”
Q: WHAT MAKES TAMARACK FEEL SPECIAL TO YOU?
JENNIFER: Well, the amenities, of course, and the four-season recreation and activities. But also, the community itself. Everyone is so friendly and positive up here. It’s a great atmosphere.
QUINN: We got a Full Membership because we wanted to take advantage of all the stuff to do up here, including the Club and social events.
Q: WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TAMARACK TO OTHERS?
QUINN: We definitely would. In terms of the investment—what you get and what is offered—Tamarack can’t be beat. It’s a great value that is getting better and better all the time because of the quality of the homes and neighborhoods and the complete resort lifestyle.
JENNIFER: Our friends recommended it to us and we would certainly recommend it to our friends. We love it here and want to spend more and more time here throughout the year…as much time as we can. There is truly no place we’d rather be.

1. CAN YOU TELL US A HIDDEN GEM IN VALLEY COUNTY THAT ONLY LOCALS KNOW ABOUT?
As many locals will tell you, that is a rite of passage. But I will share a favorite spot to hike is to Goose Creek Falls.
2. DONNELLY IS KNOWN AS THE CROSSROADS TO RECREATION, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO RECREATE?
I love every season here! In the winter we enjoy the long ski runs at Tamarack, spring/ summer/fall is full of hiking and exploring and summer we enjoy boating and finding a quiet spot by the lake or river to fish.
3. WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOUR FAVORITE VIEWPOINT IN TAMARACK?
The summit is stunning on a clear day, you can see for miles in every direction. The lake, mountains and village are all images to soak up and enjoy.
4. SPRING IS HERE, SO WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITES (AND LEAST FAVORITE) SPRING TRADITIONS?
Spring is wonderful in Valley Co, one day its snowing the next it’s t-shirt weather. I dislike the mud! I have three kids and dogs so managing the mud that tries to make it’s way into my house is a full time job.
5. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO SELL OR BUY RIGHT NOW?
Don’t try to “beat” interest rates or the market, make the purchase because it is right for you and your family.
6. IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY, WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WOULD DO? Invest it in land.
7. IN YOUR OPINION WHAT’S THE COOLEST DESIGN TREND YOU ARE SEEING IN HOMES TODAY?
Vaulted ceilings that allow for big windows and natural light and exposed beams.
8. IF YOU HAD TO EAT ONE MEAL, EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Tacos, that’s a well rounded meal, right?
9. WHAT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO TELL YOURSELF AT AGE 13? Buy some real estate and sit on it.
