The return of this championship course has brought with it countless memorable rounds, scenic tee shots, and of course, the now-legendary 19th “Gambler’s Hole,” which continues to challenge and delight players with a chance to double down or settle the score. We’re thrilled to see so many of you back out on the fairways and enjoying everything the course has to offer.
We’re also proud to mark the first summer season for the Alfredo Miguel Afif Mountain Lodge, which opened in December and is now fully operational for summer guests. Accessible via the Tamarack Express, the lodge has quickly become a favorite for those looking to enjoy a scenic chairlift ride up the mountain followed by a drink, a bite to eat, or one of our new weekly events, including live music and yoga.
The lodge has also proven to be an extraordinary venue for private events and weddings, with room to accommodate up to 300 guests. Perched high above the resort and surrounded by panoramic views of Lake Cascade, the valley, and our village below, it’s a location unlike any other in Idaho—truly a gathering place to elevate your next private event.

Q&A: WITH TOM HOVARTH, VP OF REAL ESTATE SALES

In the past 18 months, Tamarack has witnessed tremendous growth— not only in world-class amenities and activities, but also in the range of living options we offer. As the nation’s only ski, golf, and lake resort, Tamarack delivers an unmatched lifestyle and ownership experience. As we continue to grow and look toward new offerings for our owners and members, we recognized the need to bring in a seasoned Sales Director with the experience and vision to help take Tamarack to the next level.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR SALES BACKGROUND?
TOM: I’ve been in real estate longer than I’d like to admit. I started in commercial real estate in downtown San Francisco in 1981 and was named Rookie of the Year for my region, later becoming a top producer and the youngest VP in the history of Fuller Commercial Brokerage (now Colliers).
In 1985, I was recruited to lead a Marcus & Millichap office specializing in tenant representation. I grew gross revenue by 400% and was the first of eight offices to recruit an A-level player. Later, I opened my own office, sold the former MJB headquarters, and successfully leased it up.
In 1996, I was approached by the developer of Lahontan—the first luxury private golf community in North Lake Tahoe—and offered a sales position. I accepted, wanting to stay in Tahoe. IMI came in to manage the project shortly after our launch, and over four years, the community grew from 436 to 512 properties. I was a top producer every year and the #1 producer for IMI worldwide in 2000.
I semi-retired in 2004, but in 2019 an opportunity arose with two IMI alums. I became Director of Sales at Tumble Creek in central Washington, where we achieved record sales during the relaunch. My most recent role before Tamarack was at Bay Creek in Cape Charles, Virginia. And now, here we are.
Q: THAT’S QUITE A PEDIGREE. TAMARACK IS CERTAINLY LUCKY TO HAVE YOU. WHEN DID YOU FIRST HEAR ABOUT TAMARACK, AND WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE RESORT?
TOM: If I recall correctly, I first heard about Tamarack in the summer of 2020. Three things immediately stood out. First, the stunning natural mountain beauty—it’s truly a spectacular year-round setting. Second, the sheer volume of outdoor activities available all year long. And third, the community’s vision and how exceptionally it’s been executed over the past five years. I’m excited to be part of the ride. Good things are happening at Tamarack.
Q: WHAT MAKES TAMARACK STAND OUT FROM OTHER MASTER-PLANNED RESORT COMMUNITIES IN THE WEST?
TOM: So much. It’s surrounded by more natural beauty than any project I’ve worked on or visited—and I’ve worked at some truly world-class properties. Tamarack offers a remarkable variety of on-site outdoor amenities, all in close proximity: skiing, lake boating, golf, rafting, kayaking, hiking—you name it. Looking ahead, we’re poised for sustainable growth. The Master Plan ensures high-quality architecture and thoughtful development, preserving both the setting and the lifestyle.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AS THE INCOMING DIRECTOR OF SALES?
TOM: I’ve hit the ground running. My goal is to amplify awareness, generate more qualified leads, and convert those into sales. We’re going to dial up the energy and momentum. Tamarack is in a position of strength, and with support from the team and marketing, we plan to take it to the next level—achieving new sales milestones in 2025 and beyond.
Q: DO YOU HAVE A FEEL YET FOR THE COMMUNITY OF OWNERS AND MEMBERS? WHAT’S THE ENERGY LIKE AT TAMARACK—BOTH AMONG OWNERS/MEMBERS AND STAFF?
TOM: I’ve only been here eight days, so I’ll have more to say soon. But honestly, the community spirit and positivity here are refreshing. The staff I’ve met and begun working with are amazing—friendly, motivated, and ready to move things forward. It’s a great time to be at Tamarack.
Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TAMARACK SO FAR? AND WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING MAKING IT HOME?
TOM: Favorite thing? Everything, honestly. It’s the full package: the setting, the amenities, the outdoor lifestyle. For anyone who loves being outside, Tamarack is a dream—year-round fun in a natural paradise. After three decades working with resort communities, I’ll put Tamarack up against any mountain destination. Whether it’s Sun Valley, Telluride, or Park City—we can compete on natural beauty, activities, and vision. As one of our owners told me recently: “We’re Breckenridge before it became Breckenridge.” I truly believe that. Now is the time to be at Tamarack.

HOMEOWNER PROFILE THE SCHNARS FAMILY
It’s not often you meet a family of seasoned skiers from the small southern town of Jasper in sunny North Georgia. But Stacey, John, and their five adult kids are exactly that—a family of outdoor enthusiasts and skiers who have fallen in love with Tamarack Resort. “Our son is ready to move to Tamarack full-time,” Stacey says. “He absolutely loves it. And we all do—we’re super excited for summer and just being able to experience each season up here. It’s so beautiful.”
Q: I UNDERSTAND YOU GUYS ARE NEW HOMEOWNERS AT TAMARACK
STACEY: That’s true. It’s very exciting. Kind of a spur-of-the-moment decision. We came up in March to ski and just fell in love with the resort. We put an offer down and closed on a condominium in the Village (Megeve) in May. So yeah… the whole family is excited
Q: SO ALL OF YOU GUYS ARE SKIERS?
STACEY: Yes, pretty much. John is pretty hardcore and fearless, and I’m more of a snowboarder and hiker. Our kids all snowboard and ski—some prefer one over the other, of course. Our son, the second youngest (they range from 19 to 27), is an outdoor enthusiast to the core. He’s probably the most excited about Tamarack.
Q: TELL ME WHAT YOU LIKED ABOUT TAMARACK. WHAT MADE IT STAND OUT FROM OTHER PROPERTIES OUT WEST?
STACEY: We love the natural beauty—it’s such a pretty part of the country and a little off the radar, so it’s not overrun like so many ski resorts and towns. We also love the people and the energy up here. Everyone’s in a good mood. It’s easy to make friends, and the staff has been so nice and helpful. It just feels like home.
And of course, the year-round outdoor activity—where else can you find all this in one resort? Golf, skiing, lake activities, social programming... there’s always something going on. It kind of feels like this best-kept secret. My husband does tons of research on communities and resorts, and he landed on Tamarack right away. It’s such an incredible value—what you get for the money. We feel like this is the time, right now, to be at Tamarack.
Q:
I UNDERSTAND THERE’S
AN INTERESTING STORY ABOUT YOUR FIRST TRIP TO TAMARACK?
STACEY: Yes, that’s true. We were in Park City last February for a ski trip—and there was no snow. Literally. It was raining. So my husband, frustrated, gets online, does some research, and books a trip to Tamarack for March.
What’s funny is—we had already planned the trip and were headed up there when we saw a picture of our friends who had just posted from Tamarack in the snow. We had no idea they were even coming. What are the chances?
Anyway, it’s so cool to have friends from Georgia who own a house here too—and we had no clue. Small world.
Q: WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT TAMARACK?
STACEY: That’s a tough question. We just bought in May, so I think we’ll keep discovering new things and new adventures up here.
For me, it’s the beauty and the way it feels to be here. Everyone is so happy and friendly—no one seems stressed or rushed. I mean, the TamFam thing is real. We experienced it on our very first trip—how accommodating, friendly, and easygoing everyone was. We just knew Tamarack was where we wanted to be. This was the place.

In the summer, you’ll find me surfing on the lake, hiking the trails, or doing just about anything outdoors.
3. WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOUR FAVORITE VIEW POINT IN TAMARACK?
Mid-Mountain Lodge. The views there are absolutely breathtaking year-round.
4. SUMMER IS HERE, SO WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE (AND LEAST FAVORITE) SUMMER TRADITIONS?
I love the long, warm days filled with outdoor adventure. My least favorite? Definitely the mosquitoes!

I’m a proud native Idahoan, married with two amazing kids. McCall has been home for over 22 years, and I feel deeply connected to this community.
