 Reign of Christ  Sunday 24 November 2019 Worship Leaders: Wendi Tiedt and Rev Peter Norman Organist: Ian Ayers Welcome

Wendi Tiedt

Theme: How might we understand Christ’s Realm?

Gathering Words Holy God of grace, you reign in glorious heavenly splendor, high above our greatest thoughts, transcending all worldly greatness, enthroned and almighty. We come with reverence to worship You, only because of your Son, Christ our king! Christ, our Redeemer, came out of love for us, and won for us peace with our holy Creator. Through the Holy Spirit our hearts respond with the eternal chorus: “Holy, Holy, Holy!” are you God. Join us to those who sing Your praises, Your children from every time and place, As we seek Your righteousness in our own lives. Amen! Light The Community Candle Candle is lit We light this Community candle as a symbol of the risen Christ’s presence with us. In this moment we pause, as we think of Your glorious works. We still ourselves before you God. We honour you, Christ our king. Your light shines in the darkness, You are our fortress; You are here. May we worship You in spirit and in truth.

Opening Hymn: At the name of Jesus 1.

At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, every tongue confess him King of Glory now: ‘tis the Father’s pleasure that we call him Lord, who from the beginning was the mighty Word.

2.

Humbled for a season to receive a name from the lips of sinners unto whom he came, faithfully he bore it spotless to the last, brought it back victorious when from death he passed.

3.

In your hearts enthrone him, there let him make new all that is not holy, all that is not true; he is God the Saviour, he is Christ the Lord, ever to be worshipped, trusted and adored.

4.

When this same Lord Jesus shall appear again in his Father’s glory, there with him to reign, then may we adore him, all before him bow, as our hearts confess him King of Glory now.

Passing of the Peace May the peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. All Age Time: Hats…

All Age Song: If I had a song

1.

If I had a song I’d sing it, sing out loud for ev’ryone to hear. If I had a song I’d sing it, sing a song of joy and peace and love, all over God’s world, love, all over God’s world.

2.

If I had a bell I’d ring it, ring out loud for ev’ryone to hear If I had a bell I’d ring it, ring the bells of joy and peace and love, all over God’s world, love, all over God’s world.

3.

If I had a drum I’d beat it, beat that drum for ev’ryone to hear. If I had a drum I’d beat it, beat the rhythm of joy and peace and love, all over God’s world, love, all over God’s world.

4.

Sing that song, ring that bell Beat that drum and we can tell the world the message of joy the message of peace, the message of love the message of joy and peace and the message of love.

Hymn: Christ with Us

(tune 'Oxford', as for "See amid the winter snow" MHB 124)

Kauri, Flax, and Rata trees Ferns with koru, signs are these Of new life; the Christ has come, Under Southern Cross, warm sun. Christ our Lord, be born anew Shape our lives in all we do, In this South Pacific land Let your peace and justice stand.

Land of lakes, and rushing streams, Snow capped mountains, deep ravines, Teach us all Lord Christ, to be Stewards of this rich beauty. Christ our Lord, be born anew.... In this highly favoured place, Make us clear signs of your grace, Break down walls of selfish greed, Justice bring to all in need.

Christ our Lord, be born anew.... Then shall Jesus Christ be found Deep in Aotearoa's ground, Mountains, lakes and peoples too, All will render praise to you. Christ our Lord, be born anew.... Offering

Gracious God, you have granted us wisdom, understanding, and knowledge far greater than that of any teacher; you have given us love and grace freely from your abundance. As you have shared your gifts with us, we share these gifts with you, that all the world may know you. As you have led us by the hand, we offer our hands to your service, in praise and thanksgiving. Amen.

Prayers for the World, for the People Sovereign God, we offer our prayers for the world, for the people whom You love: Peter:

All: Wendi:

All:

Peter:

All: Wendi:

All: Peter:

All:

We pray for the Church of Christ throughout the world; for unity in Christ and the fulfilment of its mission. We uphold all ministers of the gospel, and all who work to further God’s kingdom in our community. Strengthen your Church to carry forward the work of Christ to reveal your glory in the world. Unite us in your truth and help us to live together in love. We pray for those who know the harshness of natural disaster, especially in the current Australian fires where there has been utter devastation, and the storm damage in Canterbury district. We think of other places where floods have caused havoc; where drought withers crops, stripping away livelihoods and harvests. Lord, we pray for generosity and provision for all people and creation.

We pray for all people who are suffering: the sick, especially where their health prevents them from full living; for those who mourn and who are struggling to make sense of the loss of their loved one; for all who are experiencing pain as a daily reality and which causes them to falter. Holy God, give healing, give comfort, give perseverance. We pray for all those who are growing: for young people who are finding their way in the world, and who are often at the heart of a story of faith that can be overlooked. We entrust each young person to your care and nurturing. We ask that those involved in their lives will bring them to a flourishing future. Holy God, grant them courage and the joy of your salvation. We pray for those we love and know, our families and friends, our neighbours in the community. Many have been our teachers, our parents and grandparents whose lives have been a window on the world for us. Give grace to us, that we may serve Christ well in one another, and love as Christ loves us. Help us share ourselves in Jesus’ name.

Wendi:

Holy God, we pause in the quietness, and offer the prayers of our own hearts; trusting them to you now. Silent reflection

All:

God of yesterday, today and always, show us what we have to share with others day by day. Through our living out of the gospel message may Your light shine in the darkness. May your love unite us all in the common bond of love and service. Help us show forth your goodness and reveal your glory; Through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Heritage Hymn: There’s a light upon the mountains

WOV 207

1.

There’s a light upon the mountains, and the day is at the spring when our eyes shall see the beauty and the glory of the King; weary was our heart with waiting, and the night-watch seemed so long, but his triumph day is breaking, and we hail it with a song.

2.

There’s a hush of expectation, and a quiet in the air, and the breath of God is moving in the fervent breath of prayer: for the suffering, dying Jesus is the Christ upon the throne, and the travail of our spirit is the travail of his own.

3.

He is breaking down the barriers, he is casting up the way, he is calling for his angels to build up the gates of day: but his angels here are human, not the shining hosts above; for the drum-beats of his army are the heart-beats of our love.

4.

Hark, we hear a distant music, and it comes with fuller swell– the great triumph song of Jesus, of our King, Immanuel: Zion, go you forth to meet him; and, my soul, be swift to bring all your finest and your dearest for the triumph of our King! Henry Burton

Sending Out

May the living word of God dwell with you. May it live through you. May it fill your thoughts and deeds. May it fill your mouth with God’s message of love. May it sustain you in good times and bad. May it equip you for a ministry of peace and hope! Our God Reigns! Our God’s kingdom reigns forever!

Benediction: Go gently, go lightly Go gently, go lightly go safe in the spirit, live simply, don’t carry much more than you need: go trusting God’s goodness, go spreading God’s kindness, stay centred on Jesus and where he will lead.

Go singing, go bringing the gifts of the Spirit, go hopefully searching for things that are true: in living, in loving, whatever befalls you, God keep you, God bless you in all that you do. Shirley Murray

Tues was our last TMC Nancy’s afternoon for 2019. The year has sped by with 7 afternoons of varied entertainment and beautiful afternoon teas. Sincere thanks again to everyone who has given of their time to make this TMC programme run so well. In our 53rd year we will definitely need to be actioning a bigger space so everyone can be comfortable. We are not increasing the numbers of Rest Homes, but some turnouts are higher than others. Today we had 108 people and 17 walkers around the aisles. This community event deserves better and certainly has proved there is a need. Let’s encourage our ‘leaders’ to action an improved, bigger space, as soon as possible. Christine Peak
