Pentecost 24

15 November 2020

 Pentecost 24  Sunday 15 November 2020 Worship Leaders: Rev Peter Norman Organist: Rebecca Soojung-Lee Theme: A Fearless Community Welcome Entry into Worship The Community Candle is Lit Hymn:

O for a Thousand Tongues

(Tune LYNGHAM)

O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise the glories of our God and King, the triumphs of his grace!

Jesus the name that charms our fears that bids our sorrows cease; ‘tis music in the sinner’s ears, ‘tis life, and health, and peace. He speaks, and listening to his voice, new life the dead receive, the mournful, broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe. My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, to spread through all the earth abroad the honours of your name.

Hymn:

These hills

1.

These hills where the hawk flies lonely, Beaches where the long surf rolls, Mountains where the snows meet heaven, These are our care. Pastures where the sheep graze calmly, Orchards where the apples grow, Gardens where the roses cluster, These are our prayer.

2.

Forests where the tree ferns tower, Rivers running strong and clear, Oceans where the great whales wander, These are our care. Race meeting race as equals, Justice for age-old wrong, Worth for ev’ry man and woman, These are our prayer.

3.

Cities where the young roam restless, Lives brought to deep despair, Homeless and powerless people, These are our care. Places where the Word is spoken, Hands held in serving love, Faiths of our many cultures, These are our prayer.

4.

All that the old world gave us, All that the new world brings, Language, ideas and customs, These are our care, Life finding joy and value, Faith seeking truth and light, God heard and seen in all things, This be our prayer.

Hymn:

Make Spaces for Spirit

Make spaces for Spirit! For energy rising, for Pentecost presence, the wind and the fire, a new kind of language, a voice and a vision to shift and uplift us, to rouse and inspire. Make spaces for action by spirited people: the leader, the teacher, the healer of ill, the builder, the artist, the bringer of laughter, the melding and welding of spirit and will. Make spaces for graces, the gifts of the Spirit, the fruit of the garden where love is the spring, the water of blessing, the incense of worship, the wine poured for sharing, the hope that will sing. Make spaces for Spirit by changing of systems, by opening prisons, by debtors' release, the flaming of courage, the firing of justice, the Spirit of Jesus, the coming of peace. Shirley Erena Murray Annual Parish Meeting Opening Prayer Meeting Time Blessing Go Gently, Go Lightly Go gently, go lightly go safe in the spirit, live simply, don’t carry much more than you need: go trusting God’s goodness, go spreading God’s kindness, stay centred on Jesus and where he will lead.

Go singing, go bringing the gifts of the Spirit, go hopefully searching for things that are true: in living, in loving, whatever befalls you, God keep you, God bless you in all that you do.

An Insider’s View on the Ōwairaka / Mt Albert Tree Felling Issue Tūpuna Maunga Authority’s plan to fell all 345 exotic trees on Ōwairaka / Mt Albert has become a flashpoint for environmental, democratic and racial issues. Don’t believe everything you read in the media because there’s far more to this story than meets the eye. Anna Radford gives a frank appraisal of the situation and explains how protecting the trees is a spiritual issue. Sunday 22 November 2020 7pm All welcome, gold coin donation.
