Youth Entertaining Sudbury (Y.E.S.) Theatre is comprised of youth from the City of Greater Sudbury between the ages of 14-24 years. The purpose of this organization is to allow any young person the opportunity to become involved in the experience that is theatre. This company will be completely organized by youth ages 14 to 24 who will tackle all facets of theatre; this includes producing, directing, choreography, acting, lighting, sound, music, set design, costume design, makeup, etc. Its directive is to enable youth to have a professional experience without leaving the Sudbury community. It will demonstrate the exceptional talent found here in Greater Sudbury. There will be mentors and community leaders who will provide their expertise and support every step of the way, but it is understood that the youth themselves will carry any show on their own in all areas of production. This will be a way for the youth of the city to express themselves through a very powerful art form. This experience will bring young people together where there are no borders such as schools, or level of expertise. Each person will end the production with a sense of pride and will learn a great deal about theatre, not just in acting, but in every aspect of the world of theatre. Youth Entertaining Sudbury (Y.E.S.) Theatre was founded by Alessandro Costantini, and is run by a Board of Directors. Y.E.S. Theatre became incorporated on June 18, 2010, and its goal is to produce an annual theatre production here in Greater Sudbury.

STAGE MANAGER’S MESSAGE

A PRIL KIN D RAT

April is thrilled to be the returning Y.E.S. Theatre stage manager and excited to have the opportunity to be part of the amazing production of RENT. She is a second year university student at Laurentian University studying to earn her Bachelor of Science. Being a part of Y.E.S. theatre is a great way for her to escape the demands of being a full time student and make friends outside of the library! On that note, April would love to thank Alessandro for giving her this crazy schedule and Mary Ann for correcting her essays! Also, April would like to thank K.C. for including her in the Rent Medley arrangement. Being able to perform with the cast showed her a side of theater that she never understood. April loves RENT because the show explores many challenges that youth and young adults face in everyday life. April finds that the messages the show shares with the community help her and the cast through the long rehearsals and the grueling technical aspects of the production. Last year we opened up audience’s hearts and allowed them to let the sunshine in. This year we will take you on a journey through the challenges of love, life and rent and prove to you that there is no day but today.

DIRECTORS' MESSAGE

Ma ry a n n be l o w os Another year of preparation and another amazing play to present to the community. I am, again, proud and pleased to be involved in this production of Rent. Every single person, connected in any way to this show, has outdone him/herself. I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to Alessandro for everything and to the cast and crew for just being who you are and sharing your wisdom, talent and joy of theatre with me. To all who have helped and supported Y.E.S. Theatre an enormous amount of gratitude still does not suffice. We have proven, that everything we do, is RENT.

a l essandr o c ostantini “The need to express to communicate” As an artist, the way we interact with other people in our lives is through expression. The last couple of months working on this project was full of many artists expressing all they had. Welcome to Y.E.S. Theatre’s production of RENT! Our second season! Just when I thought nothing could compare to the feeling of pride that I felt after Hair, this show happened. I cannot express my gratitude enough for the hard work everyone has put into RENT. I would like to give a giant thank you to my creative and production team, beginning with my producers Alex McGillis and Daniele Muscolino, two of my very close friends. You two did an amazing job with this production. I know I can count on you both for anything I need!

To my friend and stage manager April Kindrat, I would not choose to have anyone else but you. Your work ethic and organization is exactly what I need to keep my head on straight! I love your kind heart and your new love of theatre since this all started! Thank you for being a great person, friend and leading this ship in the right direction at all times. K.C. Rautiainen…I love what you do with the arrangements for anything you touch! You are pure magic to work with. You have done beautiful work on RENT, giving it a new fresh edge. I still think you need to go and vocally direct on Broadway! I love you very much and cannot thank you enough for your hard work and passion for theatre. Music is the structure to any musical and without Sean Perras we would not have the beautiful music you hear tonight. You are such a fun person to have around and are the most professional at the same time. You go above and beyond for all Y.E.S. events. Thank you to you and Amy Wilson, our extraordinary mic operator for making us sound great every night. I have to say that I am extremely proud of my dear friend Janie Pinard, the creator of the beautiful choreo you see here tonight. Janie, you are such a wonderful person. I have never worked with anyone who understands me so much. You knew exactly what I was talking about any time I explained a vision. You will succeed at anything you want because you are tremendously focused and talented. I love you forever and look forward to working with you for the rest of my life.

To my partner in Y.E.S., Mary Ann, there is nothing to say except I love when dreams come true….twice. Your wisdom and guidance gets me through anything. We are a solid team and I can’t wait for the next time! My cast!... It has been beautiful to see what this show means to all of you, beautiful to watch you all grow as a team and as individuals. What has made this show so special is that you all really found your colour and purpose to add to this piece of art. Never forget that there is “no day but today“ and you are never alone in this world. What you share every night will never be forgotten. A special thank you to my family and friends who have worked incredibly hard on this show. You all rock so much! Please sit back and enjoy RENT. Learn what it means to love, to live, to laugh, to cry, to accept, to feel, and most of all to express and to know that it is a beautiful thing. No Day But Today!

PRODUCERS' MESSAGE It is with great excitement that we both welcome you to Youth Entertaining Sudbury (Y.E.S.) Theatre’s production of Rent.

danie l e m u s co l i n o

It is hard to believe that we are already in the midst of the second season of Y.E.S. Theatre. This year the youth of our city have chosen Rent, and we believe that it is a great fit for the latest production of Sudbury’s youngest theatre troupe. Rent tells the story of struggling young people as they try to support one another through the trials of everything that faces them during their young lives. The young people involved with the entire production have used their own talents and gifts to come together and support each other through their love of theatre. This entire project has been created, planned and executed by our local youth, which proves that by working together our young people play a prominent role to leave a legacy of their own in our community. It has been an amazing experience working alongside the talented cast and crew of Rent for the second production from Y.E.S. Theatre. It would have been impossible without the support of the community, our sponsors, volunteers and well-wishers, and to all of them, we offer our deepest gratitude for allowing this community project for the youth of our city to continue. To everyone who has contributed in any way to the success of Rent, we sincerely thank you.

We also thank our production team: Mary Ann Belowos, April Kindrat, K.C. Rautianen, Sean Perras, Janie Pinard, and Amy Wilson. To Alessandro, our dear friend, you have done it again! You have truly rallied everyone together to make Rent such a success. Because of your passion and love of theatre you have once again given Sudbury a show they will remember. You have led your cast in a

PRODUCTION TEAM MESSAGES leading the Bohemians in song for RENT. K.C. is very happy to continue her partnership with Alessandro Costantini. Their journey began many years ago when Ali played the “Artful Dodger” to K.C.’s “Nancy” in Theatre Cambrian’s production of OLIVER. K.C. and Ali have become very close over the years and K.C. would, quite literally, do anything for Ali. She feels exquisite pride when she thinks about all Ali has accomplished over the years and is so delighted to have been a part of his accomplishments with Y.E.S. Theatre. K.C. sends warm hugs and lots of love to the cast and crew of RENT. She feels privileged to have worked with such a wonderfully talented and beautiful group. Special thanks goes out to SBM, Amy, Mary Ann, April, Alex and Daniele. Muchas love and thanks to Sean for all his talent, patience and support. Böle!

S EAN PERRA S ( MUSICAL DIRECTOR) A long time fan of RENT, Sean is delighted to be at the musical helm of this production. As always, the indefatigable K.C. played a great supporting role with arrangements and her work with the cast. This is the 25th show Sean has done musical direction and sound design for and the job has become infinitely easier since Amy Wilson got involved several seasons ago; they got West Side Story up and running with a 15-minute soundcheck, so they’re not afraid of anything!

K .C . R au t iain e n ( vocal director) This is K.C.’s second production as Vocal Director for Y.E.S. Theatre. Under K.C.’s vocal direction, the Tribe blossomed harmoniously in last year’s production of HAIR. She is now

Great thanks to the (few but mighty) musicians who helped tackle the deceptively tricky score and of course to the production team and cast for their dedication to the project. Congratulations to Alessandro for bringing a second musical theatre dream from seed to giant eardrum rocking bloom with Y.E.S.!

J ANIE PINARD ( CHOREOGRAPHER) Being the choreographer for such a real and meaningful musical is a difficult task, but the passionate and hard working young people in this cast have made this experience nothing but a pleasant one. Not once have I underestimated their skills and I want to thank them for being patient, attentive and for believing in my work. Adding movement to the already powerful music and lyrics is one thing, but topping it off with your own style, soul, love and creativity is what this cast has done and is the secret ingredient to a tasteful show. I also want to thank Alessandro Costantini, his guidance, energy and creative thinking was the fuel that got me through this long and rewarding journey.

amy wilson ( MICROPHONE MIXER / COORDINATOR) Amy was thrilled to work with the Y.E.S. Theatre Company on the creation of the inshow video for their production of RENT, in addition to once again having the pleasure of mixing their microphones.  Great appreciation goes to her coproducer Lawrence Van Beek, as well as Tafari Anthony for the additional footage and the cast for their enthusiasm and patience. Thank you so much to Alessandro for the opportunity, mum, dad, Kate and K.C. for their support, and Sean for his remarkable friendship.

Tafari is very grateful for the opportunity to portray Collins in Y.E.S. Theatre's adaptation of RENT. Though he doesn't consider himself an actor, the amazing guidance of the production team and having the opportunity to perform alongside such talented people have helped him become more comfortable with the concept.

This is Victoria’s very first theatre production and she is extremely grateful to work with such talented youth! She has been rocking and rolling since she was out of the womb and is thrilled to be a part of RENT. Victoria is an old soul with interests that include singing, cats, reading, Simple Plan and shopping at Value Village. She hopes to start a band sometime soon as well as move to Toronto. “To my new friends, thank you for accepting me and sharing your love for theatre with me! Thrive my soul!”

Tafari would like to thank those who pushed him into the theatre world, even when he fought against it. The life long friendships that have been made greatly out weight the fright that acting once brought him. Enjoy the show!

michae l bo y c e ( m ar k c oh e n ) Michael would like to thank and congratulate Alessandro for his initiative in creating this amazing company, which has molded into a group of inspiring friends and role models. Michael has never had the opportunity to perform in an environment where everyone’s motives are so genuine; where days of inspiration are plentiful and long-lasting, where incredible stories are made out of nothing, where the need for youth to express is advocated and approved, where tension is nonexistent, and where a beautiful “us” is created annually in support of love and art. He wishes the best and happiest future to his incredible cast mates, love to the tribe, and much thanks to his family and anyone who supports his endeavours. Michael is blessed to have the guidance of such sublime human beings as Mary Ann, April, K.C., Janie, and the innumerable amount of others who helped with this project. By using the philosophy of theatre, he salutes the audience for letting themselves be taken on this marvelous journey. No Day But Today.
