At a crucial point in their development, young people in most countries around the world struggle to access sound information about sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and safety while being exposed to inappropriate digital content.

Many parents do not know how to address these taboo topics. In addition, schools, especially in lowincome countries, often lack a modern and comprehensive sexuality education curriculum. This leads to life-changing consequences such as unwanted pregnancy, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, as well as limitations on personal and economic potential for too many young people around the globe!

SOLUTION

The taboobreaker association has therefore developed the multi-channel program Love Land. Love Land is based on an appealing learning world with different islands that contain topics of SRH. The program includes:

• The mobile app Love Land for individual learning

• The website loveland.game providing additional learning content

• The Train-the-Trainer program Love Land, which is used for Train-the-Trainer workshops that support people working with adolescents teaching sexual education.

Love Land integrates the great potential of gamified analog and digital learning, that offers young people an age-appropriate acquisition of relevant knowledge, decision-making and communication skills in terms of content, method and media.

The content is based on UNESCO's International technical guidance on sexuality education. To proof the impact of Love Land, a dedicated team of the University of Cape Town (UCT) under the lead of Prof. Dr. Catherine Ward will conduct a randomised controlled trial.

POTENTIAL

• Love Land is a globally applicable and age-appropriate learning program, both for individual use and for school systems and health ministries in the public sector.

• The Love Land app is continuously expandable in terms of content and, thanks to geolocation, can be linked to local offers of help.

• Digital solutions in health and education are also increasingly enabling countries with severely limited financial resources to accelerate their development and provide global access. Smartphone ownership is also increasing exponentially in these countries.

CURRENT STATUS

The app is available in the iOS and Android store with three languages. The train-the-trainer program is in the pilot phase in cooperation with the UCT. The website is up to date reflecting the current content of the app.

LONG-TERM GOAL

The app is to be available globally free of charge

The Train-the-Trainer program is to be scaled up More topic islands and more languages are to be developed
