ProMedica Opens Sylvania Township Urgent Care ProMedica has opened a new urgent care/walk-in clinic in Sylvania Township, located at 6755 Central Ave. The center is the fifth ProMedica Urgent Care site across the area and provides easier access to convenient, high-quality care at the lowest cost possible. ProMedica Urgent Care is expanding options for treating minor emergencies and immediate medical needs. It offers a broad range of services, including X-rays, lab testing and simple sutures, for a low, urgentcare copay compared to the more expensive emergency center cost for the same service. In addition, ProMedica Urgent Care offers the consumer the options to walk-in or preregister their visit by calling ahead, through ProMedica’s free mobile app, or by
using an online form to secure an appointment time that is more convenient. This allows the urgent care to better manage your wait time. The centers feature additional convenience with upfront pricing. “We are setting a new standard for medical care with a primary focus on providing appropriate care in the right setting that is more expedient and affordable. We also want to prevent unnecessary visits to the emergency room,” said Lee Hammerling, M.D., chief medical officer, ProMedica. “Urgent care is one of the fastest growing specialties in the medical field due to the extended hours and immediate availability. It is a trend that we expect to see increase locally and
nationally.” Over the past 20 years, there has been a major boom in the urgent care industry driven by demand for immediate access to medical care. According to the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine, the number of urgent care facilities in the United States increased from 8,000 to 9,300 since 2008. Approximately 50–100 new sites open each year. To meet this growing need, ProMedica Urgent Care offices are open during the day as well as evenings, weekends and holidays. Certified nurse practitioners treat adults, children and infants as young as six months. CNPs are registered nurses with advanced medical training and education to treat a broad range of primary care needs.
