Rotary ascends to new heights
Sylvania Rotarians providing goodwill, service and peace in the world.
The Rotary Club International was formed in Chicago in 1905 to link professionals with diverse backgrounds and professions to build lasting fellowship and exchange ideas. As time progressed, Rotarians turned to serve others through their humanitarian efforts. What started as a small organization has grown into a global force spanning six continents with over 1.2 million members and 35,000 clubs. Rotarians set high goals and standards with impressive results. The Rotarians began focusing on eradicating polio in 1979 with a project that would immunize 6 million children. Today, polio, which was once in 125 countries, remains endemic in three countries. The organization also focuses its efforts on fighting illiteracy and poverty, promoting clean water and sanitation and fighting disease. See 22A
