SetinthepresentinthesmallNew EnglandtownofChamberlain,Maine, Carrieisamulti-layeredcoming-of-age storydealingwithfeelingsofisolation,bullyingandreligiousfanaticism.

“Carrieisahigh-energythrillerbasedon aniconicbookandfilmwithallthehorror anddarkhumorofStephenKing’snovel,” saidTheatreZonefounderandartisticdirectorMarkDanni.“Audiencesfamiliarwiththe bookandfilmwillbeontheedgesoftheir seatswithourhighlydramaticproduction abouttheplightofamisfitwithaunique gift.”

CarrieWhite,playedbyFGCUsophomoreKeeleyPendergrass,isrepressedby adomineering,ultra-religiousmother, MargaretWhite(McLeanPeterson).Sheis tormentedbyherpeersatschoolforbeing different.Hereffortstofitinleadtoadramaticandviolentconfrontationduringthe seniorprom,whenanunimaginablycruel jokeisplayedonher.

Carriefindsthatshe hastheabilitytomove thingswithhermind, calledtelekinesis.She represseshertelekinesis,butitisdiscovered byhermotherwho viewsthetelekinesisas punishmentforsin.

Thecruelbullyingof Carrie’sclassmatesis ledbythehighschool queenChris Hargensen,playedbyGraceFluharty.The storyisnarratedonstagebyacrossexaminationofSueSnell(BriannaBauch),who discoverscompassionandempathyfor Carrie—toolate.

ReynierLlanesisaCuban-American artistdevotedtopaintingonitsdifferent techniquesfromaveryyoungage.For years,hehasbeenpassionateabout exploringtheintricaciesofthebrushes, thetextures,andthebuild-onovera varietyofsupports.Hehasdemonstratedtomastereitherwatercolorsoroils oncanvasorpaper.Hisimmensetalentsasarealistpaintercanbeappreciatedinthebiggerformatsaswellas thesmall,detailedones.Thelastwere selectedforthisexhibition.Together andcloselywatchedbyacuriouseye, theyseemtomovelikethestillsfrom anunknownvideo.OldCamerasused twenty-fourpicturestocomposeone minuteofamovie.

Eachoneofthosepicturescontainedtheessenceofthemovement

butonlywhencombineditwasableto breakintoawholenewformat.

Thisresemblanceisfinallyexplored inthelayoutofsmall-sizepaintingsby Reynier.Someofthemareevencreatedwiththetechniqueofcoffeeon paperwhichisaverypersonalintake ofhisCubanheritage.Theespresso madewiththesameratioofcoffee andcarehismotherusedtomakefor himisdeludedinwaterandutilizedas ink.Inothercases,thegouachesare thestudiesfromalargerpaint.The concentratedcolorsandthesummary ofresourcesarealsotheessenceofa broaderproject.Likethestillsfroma movie,theyprovideaglimpseofthe movementhoweverentitledtotheir truth.IntheseCinematicImpressions, thepaintsaredisplayedaccompanied bystillprojections,film,videomapping,etc.Theyarevisualexplorations intheideaoftheimageasaparticle inthisentireuniverse.
