Seekingbothafreshstartanda returntotheirrootswiththisproject, thenever-changinglineupofMikeEli, JamesYoung,JonJonesandChris ThompsonsoughtoutPanhandle HouseStudiointheirhometownof Denton,Texas–thebirthplaceofthe collegefriends-turned-bandmates’ 2005debutalbumLevel,which
spawnedfan-favoritessuchas“Small TownKid”andsetthestageforthe numeroushitsthathavefollowedin the20yearssince.
“Now,wegettostepbackintoour Texasshoes,”vocalistEliagrees.“I thinkthisnewstufffindsusreaching deepintoourpastasaband.We’re rememberingwherethemagicwas–allthosesongswewantedtorecord forourLevelrecord,thatfeltwaytoo edgyforCountryRadioatthetime.”
Fortheband,beingindependent againforthefirsttimeinyearsisn’ta challenge,it’sareward–andthey tookthechancetoembracenotjust renewedcreativefreedom,butthefun oftheirselfcontainedlive-bandphilosophy.
