Cartons protect food, benefit people and use mostly renewable materials
Aseptic cartons keep food and beverages safe for up to 12 months without the need for preservatives or energy-intensive refrigeration. The convenience of storing and transporting food without the constraints of refrigeration makes perishable food accessible everywhere. Made mostly from responsibly sourced, renewable materials1, they score better on climate-impact compared to single-use packaging made primarily from fossil fuel materials2 , and they can be recycled where adequate collection, sorting, and recycling infrastructures exist at scale.
Go with carton – the pack that protects.
Discover how cartons support resilient food systems at tetrapak.com
1 On average, a Tetra Pak carton is made of approximately 70% paperboard, 25% plastic and 5% aluminium to protect the product inside. Renewable material is content that comes from renewable sources, such as wood from Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™) certified forests and other controlled sources and Bonsucro certified sugarcane. 2 Demonstrated by Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and product carbon footprint calculations in many markets. WORDS OF THE CHAIRPERSON
Dear members,
As we look back at 2024, it has been a record-breaking year for the Swedish Chamber. Most of our events were fully booked, including our signature event on December 6 – the Sustainability & Innovation Summit – “AI Driving the Sustainable Transformation”.
It is clear that our strategic focus on sustainability, innovation & diversity –supported by branding and marketing – is the way forward. These themes continue to strengthen the ties between Sweden and the Netherlands. In times of global challenges and an urgent need to reduce CO₂ emissions, collaboration is more crucial than ever. Together, we play a vital role in maintaining open communication and working towards sustainable solutions for the future.
Throughout 2024, we hosted a total of 34 events – both at our office in Amsterdam and at our members’ companies. A special thank you to Volvo Cars, Heussen, AstraZeneca, TeekensKarstens advocaten notarissen, Nokia, Partinc, Loyens & Loeff, KPMG Meijburg & Co, Cinode, Sweco, the Swedish Embassy and our generous corporate sponsors for their support and engagement throughout the year.
edition, which I am confident will provide even deeper insights. It is also worth highlighting the remarkable growth of the Young Professionals within the Swedish Chamber, now a thriving community of over 100 members. Their dedication and enthusiasm reflect a strong foundation for the Swedish Chamber’s future and further strengthen the bond between our two countries.
A special thank you to Team Sweden and especially the Swedish Embassy for their ongoing support in fostering a positive business climate between Sweden and the Netherlands. I would also like to express my gratitude to our Honorary Chairperson, H.E. Mr. Johannes Oljelund, whose support, commitment and active participation in many of our events have significantly contributed to the Swedish Chamber’s success in 2024.
In times of global challenges and an urgent need to reduce CO₂ emissions, collaboration is more crucial than ever.
Many of our members contributed to the Business Climate Survey, which has become an essential report on how Swedish companies perceive the Dutch market. These insights are invaluable for shaping future business strategies. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all members who took the time to participate. I am already looking forward to the 2025
As we move forward, we remain committed to driving a strong business community and deepening the relationship between Sweden and the Netherlands. I look forward to seeing you all at our events in the coming year.
Warm regards,
Jan Sundelin

WORDS OF THE HONORARY CHAIRPERSON
In September 2021, I came to the Netherlands. At the time we were still living with Covid and it was a bit of a challenge to build a network for a newly arrived ambassador. I was invited to become Honorary Chairperson of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the Netherlands, and I was very happy to accept. It was, and is, an honour.
The Chamber offered a splendid networking platform, albeit initially online. A few years beyond Covid networking is easier but the Chamber remains a crucial platform. It is the case for me personally and for all the members, I am sure.
The relevance of the Chamber is, I think, ultimately down to two essential characteristics. First of all, its member list is impressive, including leading Swedish businesses from so many sectors. Secondly, the Chamber is remarkably energetic, and every year manages to organize and convene an impressive number of events.
The past year, 2024, was no exception. The combination of great membership and activities yields very good results. The examples of activities are many. Among other things, the Embassy worked closely with the Chamber and Business Sweden in the production of the Business Climate Survey 2024 as well as in arranging the Sustainability & Innovation Summit. We look forward to another fruitful year of cooperation in 2025.
The past few years have indeed been challenging. Russia’s illegal, unprovoked, and unjustifiable invasion has brought immense human suffering to Ukraine and the security situation in Europe has deteriorated rapidly. Conflict and violence have hit also other parts of the world.
Our good cooperation is a big help in the shared ambition to foster closer economic ties between Sweden and the Netherlands.
We need the platform for dialogue between members that the Chamber provides and we benefit from the common learning experiences at the events of the Chamber. I think that is particularly true in challenging times.
At the same time the economic environment, including regulation in the area of trade, is very unpredictable. The Chamber may not be able to change these circumstances, but it can provide a much needed space were we come together for discussion and analysis.
I will leave the Netherlands toward the end of summer. I want to take the opportunity to thank the Chamber and its members for the close cooperation in the past years. The priorities of the Embassy and the Chamber have been closely aligned during the years I have been here. I am sure that will continue. Our good cooperation is a big help in the shared ambition to foster closer economic ties between Sweden and the Netherlands.
The Ambassador of Sweden H.E. Mr. Johannes Oljelund

FINANCE: BALANCE
Treasurer Report 2024
The Swedish Chamber is pleased to report a positive financial outcome for 2024. This achievement is attributed to a slight increase in membership revenue and the successful execution of the Chamber’s flagship events – the Sustainability & Innovation Summit and the Annual Lucia Dinner.
This positive financial result provides a valuable reserve for any unforeseen developments in the future. By continuing to organise high-quality events, maintaining cost awareness, and attracting both new and existing (patron) members, the Chamber is wellpositioned for a strong and sustainable future.
For 2025 the Chamber faces the challenge of transition to new leadership and globally an unpredictable future but is well positioned with the support of its outstanding membership group to confront those.

Karin Degerfeldt, Sustainability Strategist at Skellefteå
Municipality, shared how Skellefteå became a thriving, sustainable community through strategic engagement and bold investments.
Maarten Cleeren, Managing Director at TechLeap, reflected on AI adoption, highlighting ethical considerations and regulatory challenges. The Corporate AI Journeys panel featured Pim Roest, Partner at AllChiefs, Linus Wretblad, Founder and CEO of IPscreener, and EllisJan van den Hout, Managing Director at SKF Netherlands. They explored AI’s role in manufacturing, logistics, and innovation. SKF, for example, has reduced energy consumption by 10% through AI-driven optimisations. Pim Roest reinforced that the biggest challenge in AI adoption isn’t technology – it’s people.

ANNUAL LUCIA DINNER
On December 6, 2024, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure of hosting its Exclusive Annual Lucia Dinner at the Hotel Hilton in Amsterdam. The night was filled with festive spirit and Swedish traditions, and we celebrated the long-lasting friendship between Sweden and the Netherlands.
The night began with a luxurious three-course seasonal that set the tone for an evening to remember. Guests enjoyed an enchanting Lucia procession, performed by the Svenska Högtidskören, bringing the warmth of Swedish holiday magic to the room.
A special highlight of the evening was a spectacular tribute to ABBA’s 50 Years of Music, performed by the talented Kim-Lian van der Meij. The celebration continued with live music by Anne-Lie Persson and
her band, Stockholm Tivoli, which kept guests dancing into the night. The evening also featured an exhilarating Charity Raffle, which successfully raised €2,070 donation to Jantje Beton to benefit the organisation’s mission of creating better play spaces for children.
Guided by our brilliant Master of Ceremony, Rebecca van Dorrestein, the event was a joyful reflection on the achievements of the past year and a wonderful way to connect and celebrate with our community.
Thank You
To everyone who attended, performed, sponsored, and supported this special evening – thank you for making it a night to remember. Your presence and contributions are what make our community so extraordinary.

2024: All Time High Record for Volvo in the Netherlands
Volvo Car Netherlands’ exceptional performance in 2024 earned the company the prestigious Swedish Achievement Award, marking a historic milestone. With 30,995 registrations – a staggering 89.3% increase from the previous year – Volvo secured an 8.1% market share, becoming the second-best-selling brand in the Netherlands and surpassing its 1986 record.
Volvo’s electrification strategy proved pivotal, with 64% of sales being all-electric vehicles. This propelled the brand from fifth to second place in EV sales, capturing a 15% market share. The successful launch of the EX90 and the EX30, with 10,800 registrations, played a key role, positioning the EX30 as the Netherlands’ second-bestselling EV and third overall.
A great and unique team achievement! The EX30’s success introduced a new customer group to Volvo, and with the upcoming launches of the all-electric ES90 and EX30 Cross Country, we look forward to a promising 2025.”
