only one to advance from Winters so it was just me and coach for two days. On the second day, I attempted a Happy Gilmore shot (for those who do not know what that is, a Happy Gilmore shot is when you get a run start at driving the ball from the t-box). The first attempt failed miserably. I lined up for a Happy Gilmore on the next hole, which was a 564-yard par 5. Coach lowered his head because he was slightly embarrassed but I managed to hit an amazing shot that was about 360 yards down the fairway. I finished the hole with a birdie and coach said, “I will never doubt you again.” Those words meant a lot to me and now I never doubt my own capabilities. Most memorable moment: My most memorable moment in high was during my junior year. It was during the season opener football game. We were playing the San Saba Armadillos. We started at about

Brookalina Marie Martinez Parents: Dudley Rainey and Monica Ellis Grandparents: Juan Martinez and Gloria Ramirez; the late L.V. and Johnnie B. Rainey Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with my Dad and our yellow lab, Saibul, my aunt Ruth, cousin Kiesha and her son L.J., as well as our uncle, Uncle Bonez - James. Most influenced by & why: My Dad is definitely the most influential person I know personally. He speaks nothing but wisdom and many, many old sayings to motivate me, to keep pushing even if there seems to be no obstacle in my way. He has helped me during tough times and kept me smiling when all I wanted to do was frown. I thank him for all the time and love and devotion he has invested in me to get me where I am today. Most memorable moment: The most memorable moment would have to be when I sang at Glacier Ceremony my freshmen year. I was terrified, and it took the most effort to open my mouth and start letting loose a melody, but I’m glad I did because my entire class as well as those above me and my Dad showed great support and I can honestly say I’d love nothing more than to relive that moment again and again. It wasn’t just my moment, it was our moment. Everyone who clapped, to those who stood, though I’m almost certain that it was staged, I congratulate you because you helped me. You made it easier to be myself. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart, I really do. I wouldn’t have been able to go through with it if I hadn’t saw the shocked looks on many of your faces. Future plans: I plan on going to college to advance my education and start a career I love, which includes interior design and garden design. I want to be creative where I haven’t been creative before and go places I’ve never gone before and having a job in the line of arts will most definitely bring life to my hopes and dreams and turn them into a reality once I put in the hard work. I follow the motto from The Princess and The Frog, “wishing upon a star will only get you so far; you have to get the rest of the way through hard work.” And if my Daddy taught me anything it’s to work hard for

what you want and appreciate what I’ve got. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I may have been raised a country girl, but I like to live big. The mortgage will be paid off, a decent year modeled car will be paid off, and we’ll have steady income with a bit of spending money for family nights. I’ll have a high position in an architect and landscaping company and work for high rollers who wants to add a little creativity and life to their homes, garden, etc. My family and I will make monthly trips back here to Winters to see my Dad and the rest of the family and friends like Freda Gibbs and her niece Sonya Belk. I can just picture nothing but laughs and sunshine and butterflies and unicorns because time spent with family should always be surreal.

Since the day I was born, they have been nothing less than supportive of the decisions that I have made. However, my father is whom I am the most influenced by. Regardless of being raised in a family full of women, my father has truly taught and showed me what a true man is like and what responsibilities this role comes with. He is a hardworking individual with tremendous life values. He has shared much experience and wisdom with me as I have progressed in life. His personality has definitely had an immense impact on who I am and how I live my life to this day. Most memorable moment: My favorite memory is when our Senior FCCLA Entrepreneurship team made it to state. We had just missed state by one place. However, it was a regular Friday morning when Mrs. Richards walked in and asked if I knew where Mariana and Joey (my team members) were. I told her they were in Mrs. Hoppe’s class. Mrs. Richards had a very serious face and I was concerned of what might have happened. We made it to the third floor where she had just pulled Mariana and Joey out from class. When she turned and faced us three, she had the biggest smile on her face and told us that we had made it to state. We all were surprised and filled with joy. It was one of the best memories I had. We traveled to Dallas and participated in our FCCLA event and had a great time at the convention.
