The TRA Choirs and Vocal Performance Groups are divided into 3 Choirs and 3 Vocal Performance Ensembles: Mixed Concert Choir, Show Choir and Advanced

Women’s Choir AND Advanced Women’s Jazz Ensemble, Advanced Guys Quartet and Jesus Talk: Worship Singers

Mixed Concert Choir is open to any student interested in performing with a Choir and does not require an audition. The other two choirs (Show Choir and Advanced Women’s Choir) and the three

Vocal Performance Ensembles (Advanced Women’s Jazz Ensemble, Guys Quartet, and Jesus Talk: Worship Singers) will require an audition for placement in the choirs and vocal performance ensembles. Auditions are held in the spring of the previous year. For all applied auditioned performance courses, evaluations & assessments will be given over music memorization, music theory, music history, and overall performance of the assigned repertoire. Students will be expected to sing alone and with a group on the choir repertoire, as well as, sight-read alone.

Mixed Concert Choir The Concert Choir will perform in at least five scheduled events a year (Veteran’s Day Program, Christmas Concert, Christmas Chapel, Easter Chapel, and Spring Concert), as well as, the Spring Choral Competition Festival. Students will have the opportunity to audition for the All-West Honor Choir. If selected for All-West, students (10-12th) will be eligible to audition for the Tennessee All-State Honor Choir. If selected for All-State, those students are eligible to audition for the All-National Honor Choir. While in Choir Class, students will concentrate on the development of proper singing technique, sightreading, stage presence, and vocal health care. The Choir Class will study historical and contemporary choral music in English and Foreign language. Foreign Language Choral Music may include (Latin, Spanish, Italian, French, German Swahili, and more). Choir students are expected to perform quality SATB literature, both accompanied and A Capella.

Advanced Women’s Choir

The Advanced Women’s Choir is a performancebased ensemble, where the students sing and perform Classical, Folk, and Contemporary Worship repertoire. This Choir will perform in the same five scheduled events as well as in both on and offcampus assembly programs, special events, Community Church Worship, Spring Choral Competition Festival, and on an “as needed” basis. Students are expected to perform quality SSAA literature, both accompanied and A Capella. Students will study historical and contemporary choral music in English and other languages. Every year this Choir travels out of state to compete in a National Choral Festival and every four years this choir travels to New York for a National Choir Competition or to sing at Carnegie Hall.

Show Choir: Contemporary Ensemble

Placement is by audition. The Show Choir Contemporary Ensemble is a performancebased ensemble class that sings and performs choreographed musical numbers. This course is intended for advanced singers and performers. Students will be challenged with various styles of commercial music (jazz, blues, pop, rock, country, etc.) from the 20th century. Throughout this course, students are expected to perform, analyze, and critique music performances through aspects of music theory and music history.

Advanced Women’s Contemporary Ensemble Placement is by audition. The Advanced Women’s Jazz Ensemble is a performance-based ensemble that meets twice a week. This group sings and performs choreography to challenging SSAA Jazz, Blues, and Pop repertoire. This course is intended for advanced singers and performers. Students will be challenged with various styles of commercial music: ranging from (jazz, blues, pop, rock, country, etc.) from the 20th century. Throughout this course, students are expected to perform, analyze and critique music performances through aspects of music theory and music history.
