Spanish I (Español 1 - ¡Hola Latinoamérica!) This course is an introductory level course designed to encourage proficiency in the Spanish language and heighten globalization. It is a full-year course and will build on basic skills used in the everyday Spanish language, aspects of Hispanic culture, and basic grammar. We will use the main communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) throughout the course of this class in order to build the skills necessary to be able to communicate effectively in the target language. By the end of the second semester, students should be able to understand and use basic skills associated with the target language. (i.e. phonics, numbers, alphabet, colors and shapes, basic conversation skills, express likes/dislikes, learn basic vocabulary, tell time) Students will also know how to use simple tenses (present, present progressive, gustar-like verbs). Students will be able to describe objects and concepts and identify common cognates and false cognates. Students will also be aware of cultural aspects of Central and South America as well as be able to identify these countries and their capitals on a map.

Spanish II (Español 2 - ¡Hola España!)

This course is an intermediate-level course designed to build on previous knowledge acquired and improve proficiency in the Spanish language as well as heighten globalization. It is a full-year course that will introduce higher-level concepts used in the everyday Spanish language, including aspects of Hispanic culture, review of basic grammar, and introduction of more complex grammar. We will use the main communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) throughout the course of this class in order to build the skills necessary to be able to communicate effectively in the target language. By the end of the second semester, students should be able to understand and use basic skills as well as more advanced skills associated with the target language. Students will also know how to use simple tenses in the indicative and imperative moods as well as complex tenses in the indicative mood. In addition, students will be able to identify and use common idiomatic phrases in the target language. The cultural focus of this course is Spanish history and culture, including a study of each of the autonomous regions of Spain. 25
