A lot of times people stress out over what to wear. Don’t make it harder than it needs to be. I’ll walk you through the process from the types of clothing to the colors you select. But the underlying principle is always to keep. things. simple.
In the photographs above, we captured the same outfit in the same space in three different ways to achieve three different looks and expressions. Understanding lighting, posing and angles, I want to be your guide througout the process, from preparing for the photo shoot to guiding you with posing and expression.
Let’s talk about value. Let’s explore your “why”. Why do you want a portrait photo shoot, why is it important to you? What is the kind of service you expect and want. Who do you want to be photographed with? What type of things do you need help with?
The level of your needs will determine the level of photographer you decide to hire. Be mindful of what you need out of your session and what it is that a particular photographer can bring to the table and this is what you’ll get out of a photo session. That’s how much value you’ll get out of the experience.
The first question I will ask you are what are your hopes and dreams for this session? What is it about you or that you want to remember 20 years from now and HOW do you want to remember it? In an album that can be handed down from generation to generation, in a wall portrait that will make you smile every single day? From there, we will work together to choose a location and wardrobe to achieve that vision.
Wardrobe is an ESSENTIAL piece of the puzzle as we work together to create your portrait art. I encourage all my clients to feel free to text me (sometimes right from the dressing room!) if they want my opinion on an item of clothing. Choosing the right outfits can really make or break the session (no pressure right?) For a few tips, see page 7.
Let’s discuss your photographic needs, expectations and pricing. This 30-45 minute discussion helps determine if we are a good fit for your photography goals and whether or not we should move into the design phase. This will give me the opportunity to hear more about what type of session you’re interested in and you the opportunity to ask as many questions as you’d like.
Your date is reserved with your $250 non-refundable retainer fee.
As far as what you purchase (See #7), the menu is a la carte. If you want to spend $200 you can. If you want to spend $2,000 you can. It is up to YOU once you see your images.

In order to make sure everything is just right, a fitting appointment or clothing consulation can be scheduled in the days leading up to your photo shoot. Maybe you need a second pair of eyes when going through your closet. Or perhaps it’s texting clothing ideas back and forth to determine what will look best. We can test how selected outfits will look with the backgrounds. I want you to feel confident with your choices and look forward to a stress-free day of pampering.
You’re in good hands. You’ll be carefully coaced and guided through beautiful posing. My job is to help you feel comfortable and enjoy the experience. I’ll even show you the back of my camera a few times so you know how beautifully your images are turning out. All you need to do is enjoy your day and allow yourself to be in the moment. You might want to plan something for after your photo shoot because you’re going to look stunning!

On the morning of the photo shoot, you’ll be introduced to a professional hair & makeup artist extraordinaire. She’ll consult with you on how you wish to wear your hair and makeup. Depending on the length of your hair and complexitiy of your make up, styling sessions can take up to 1.5 - 2 hours. Once styling is complete, you’ll feel confident, empowered and ready to rock your photo shoot.

After your photo shoot, I’ll go through each image, selecting the very best to present to you. Final selections are lovingly and carefully retouched and edited to show you at your very best. This process can take up to 3 weeks.

Sit down, relax and view your photographs in the comfort of my studio. During this time, you can choose how many images you would like to purchase and in what way they will be displayed and enjoyed through heirloom quality products. It’s always hard to choose only one! I’ll be there to walk you through the process, show you the products and help you make decisions. There is no order minimum. Mounted prints begin at $275. The average client invests roughly $1800.
Once your order is complete, I’ll reach out so we can determine a convenient time to pick up your beautiful photographs.

Don’t feel the needs to run out and buy all new things. We can do a versatie photo shoot using a single scarf, fabric, or a sweater. I also have a small studio wardrobe you can access.
THE FIRST RULE IS:
Don’t bring outfits you don’t love. I’ve had people show up in the studio with clothing that prompts them to say, “I really don’t like this particular piece but I’ll leave it up to you.” If you don’t like the outfit, it’s likely you won’t like the photographs of you in the outfit. Leave it at home.
Structured or statement pieces (clothing and/or jewelry) work amazingly well. Try your favorite blazer or jacket, a cocktail dress with an interesting neckline, or a bodysuit with jeans. I want you to look and feel like yourself, but on your very best day. When in doubt, bring a little extra and I’ll help you style it together. It’s part of the service, and I enjoy doing it.
Avoid tiny, busy patterns and neon colors. These are often harsh on camera and a bit unflattering in the final photos.
Neutral colors or jewel tones seem to work best on most complections, but if you’re unsure, let’s talk it through.
If you’re having your hair and make up done, please show up with a clean, moisturized face, and clean, dry hair. Our hair and make up artist will take care of the rest.
If you’re having your hair styled by the studio stylist, please make sure your hair is washed and blow dried. Donotuseanystylingproductsorflatironyourhair.
Check your hair. If it’s been a while since you had a trim or if your roots are showing or your colour needs a touch-up, now is the time to address it. If you hair is dry, consider a deep conditioning treatment. Make sure you don’t make any crazy drastic changes though because if your colour doesn’t come out as planned you won’t look like yourself in your photos, and that can put a bit of a dampener on your mood.
Wax or shave your legs and armpits 3 days prior to a shoot, if that’s your thing. Also, don’t do facial hair waxing in the three days before your shoot otherwise you may end up with some residual redness.
Moisturize any parts of your skin that will show the day of the photoshoot. This includes arms, hands, cuticles, feet, legs heals, face, and the décolletage, (the upper chest area, including the neck, cleavage and shoulder areas.)
Have your nails done, or at least give them a little tidy yourself, and if you are wearing open shoes or going barefoot then don’t forget your toes. **TIP: Please keep your nail color neutral (french or nude colors).
Tidy up your eyebrows, or pay someone to do this.
Look after your skin – Consider getting a facial, or give yourself a mini-spa evening – but don’t start a brand new skincare regime right before a shoot. Skin can take awhile to adjust to new products and you may run the risk of breakouts.
Avoid wrinkled fabric. (Difficult to edit out)
Consider bringing strapless bras, bralettes, sticky bras, hairspray, comb/brush, bobby pins, and touch-up makeup including lipstick and powder.
DONT YOU DARE:
Spray tan before your photo shoot. The camera picks up on streaks and unevenness that your eye may not see. If you can’t do without, remember that additional retouching fees may apply if corrections are needed.
Party the night before your photo shoot. Hang overs aren’t sexy. Alcohol dehydrates the skin. If you’re nervous, try a bubble bath.
Talk smack on yourself. I want to hear about what you love. Let’s concentrate on that rather than what you don’t like. I will take extra care to play down your insecurities and concentrate on what you feel good about.
“But I’m not photogenic.” Most of us are working on loving ourselves, but still struggle with the size of thighs, mom boobs, belly pooches, necks, upper arms and dimples. This is a BODY POSITIVE STUDIO, and I will pose you in the most flattering way possible, and shoot from the best angle.
See her strength, resilience, authenticity, playfulness, beauty and sexiness. We don't often see it in ourselves but when you can have an experience that allows you to honor all the layers, chapters, and facets of who you are, that’s pretty special. And it’s my greatest honor to capture it.

I ask clients to bring 3-4 of their own outfits which we’ll talk through during the consultation phase. I also have a small studio wardrobe that is avaialbe to you. Keep in mind that if something is too big we can easily clip it, and alternatively, if the zipper doesn’t go all the way up, I can hide it with various angles.

Experimenting with an element of boudoir in your photography session is about being in a comfortable environment, being comfortable with your photographer and then letting go. A session like this is more about feeling empowered rather than just a cliche version of sexy.
Don’t be afraid to get creative. For boudoir style shoots, a garter belt and thigh-high fish nets can go with a graphic tee or a cropped sweater. An oversized white button-down shirt left open with a sexy bra underneath is a classic. Wear only a bodysuit. We can do most anything with a white sheet. This is about you and what feels right to you, not about being someone you aren’t.
If you do choose to wear thigh-highs, buy them 1-2 sizes larger than you normally would. This is to avoid the “thigh muffin top” that would normally occur.

The 50 Over 50 Project was a turning point in my journey. For several years I had been holding on to a secret so tightly because I didn’t know how to ask for the help I needed and I didn’t want to be defined by my circumstances. Through Susanna’s vision for this amazing project, I was able to reveal that secret and share it through photographs, the written word and through an oral telling of my story. Session fees are $250. This must be paid at the time of booking to reserve your time on the calendar. Session fees do not include any prints or digital files. During the reveal and ordering session, what you purchase is up to you. The menu is a la carte. If you want to spend $275, you can. If you love them all and want to spend $2,000, you can.
A la carte pricing per image begins at $275. This includes a professionally printed, matted and mounted image to a 11” x 14”print, the high resolution (printable) file of this image, and a web size file for social media posting. Your scheduled date is not reserved until your contract is signed and returned, and the sitting fee is received. In the event you need to reschedule your session it is required you do so within one week of your session, otherwise a $75 rescheduling fee will be charged.
