A NOTE FROM ADAM

As we wrap up another busy construction season, I want to reflect on the work accomplished across our teams. This summer brought major projects, tight schedules, and challenges that highlighted the strength of our people. From crews in the field to plants, estimating, quality, equipment, logistics, and support functions, every success reflects the resilience and commitment of our team.

Looking ahead to fall and winter, our focus shifts. These months allow us to reset equipment, reinforce safety programs, and strengthen systems for spring. It’s also a time for training, planning, and innovation—laying the foundation to start strong in 2026. The work may look different than peak season, but it’s just as critical to moving us forward.

Most importantly, I want to recognize the adaptability and pride our people bring to every role. Whether in the field or behind the scenes, your commitment to quality, safety, and supporting one another makes this company strong.

As we close the season, I’m optimistic about what’s ahead. With exciting opportunities on the horizon and the right team in place, I thank you for your hard work and dedication. Together, we’ll carry this momentum into the next season and beyond.

DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHT

SITEWORKS ESTIMATING TEAM

Behind every successful SiteWorks project is a strong estimate, carefully developed and fine-tuned by our skilled team.

Every successful project starts with a strong estimate. Our estimating team plays a vital role in laying the groundwork for project efficiency and client satisfaction. Estimating is a long and detailed process that requires patience, precision, and a deep understanding of both the work and the client’s needs. By combining technical expertise, innovative tools, and practical field knowledge, the group ensures that every proposal is accurate, thorough, and tailored to deliver real value. That strength comes from the unique skills each member brings to the table. Alan Vassmer has advanced the team’s capabilities through drone technology and Propeller software, improving both precision and communication with clients. Garrett Cates applies his design expertise to create smart, cost-saving plans, while Brian Stinnett provides detailed quantity takeoffs that ensure our estimates capture the full scope of work. With

the recent addition of Dustin Belk, whose broad field experience adds even more depth, the team continues to elevate the process by leveraging technology, design, and detail to build estimates that clients trust and projects depend on.

As SiteWorks grows, the estimating team remains at the core of our success, translating complex and time-intensive project details into clear, actionable plans that set the stage for high-quality construction.

2025 THIRD QUARTER CHAMPIONS

Every month, we celebrate the individuals and teams who go above and beyond in living our core values. Through the Champions program, we highlight their hard work and dedication, which inspires all of us to keep building a positive and collaborative work environment. Congratulations to our Champions! Your actions make Team SB stronger every day!

JUNE CHAMPIONS

JACOB NEWMAN LEADMAN

“I would like to recognize Jacob Newman. We blew a hydraulic line and had to shut down for the day, but the Mill needed to be ready for the night shift. We had a short window to get things ready before the equipment needed to be picked up for the night. Jacob jumped into action and completed the repair just in time. He showed great teamwork to make sure the next shift had no issues!”

JUNE CREW

KCI INTERMODAL TERMINAL TEAM

This 65-acre project was a team effort between our SiteWorks and Paving divisions. Together, we moved 76,000 CY of earth, stabilized 150,000 SY of subgrade, and placed another 150,000 SY of cement stabilized aggregate. We also utilized 3D asphalt paving technology for this job. Proud of the innovation, coordination, and craftsmanship that made this possible!

JULY CHAMPION

WAYNE LARSON OPERATOR

“Wayne always goes above and beyond. He is always stepping up to help anyone and seeing what needs to be done next, and does it without hesitation. He is not built to watch someone else work; he will either give the person a helping hand or ask them if they need a break. Thank you, Wayne, for all you do!”

CHAMPIONS OF THE QUARTER

JULY CREW I-470 TEAMS

“I just want to say WOW. I wanted to say thank you to everybody who was involved. Rhett did a fantastic job planning the execution of the job, and things got even better on the second weekend. This is definitely one for the books!”

AUGUST CHAMPIONS

TAREIKA WEBB & COLIN MULVANY CMTG

“I was lucky to have Tareika and Colin helping on the Higginsville Airport project. Colin stood out with how consistent and accurate he was on the testing side, which made a huge difference. Tareika kept everything moving in the field with great communication, jumped in to learn profiling, and powered through some long, hot days without missing a beat. Big thanks to both of them for making that job a success!”

AUGUST CREW

PROJECT QUALITY MANAGERS

“I’d like to acknowledge the PQMs. They have gone above and beyond this season. I called Justin with a question recently and he was running low on sleep, but took the time to walk me through what I needed to know. Jose is always willing to help get our crew on sites, or grab samples for us. Grant is quick to offer a hand to testers. He is a big help to anything we need at the lab and our staff always enjoys working with him.”

SB IN THE COMMUNITY

Recently, our team had the privilege of making a meaningful difference for a local family. When we heard about Brie’s story and found out we could help, we knew it was more than just another project. It was about restoring independence and quality of life. In 2024, Brie Morgan Bauer delivered her third child through an emergency C-section at just 27 weeks. Soon after, her health declined rapidly, and doctors discovered she had Streptococcal Shock Syndrome (STSS) caused by Group A Strep. In the months that followed, Brie endured numerous surgeries and ultimately the amputation of all four limbs. Since returning home, her family has been focused on adapting both their lives and their home to support her new reality.

To help with those adjustments, the project centered on building a 120-foot sidewalk that would connect the driveway to the back patio, giving Brie safe access to the backyard. The challenge for our team was delivering it without disturbing the yard. With careful planning, we mapped out the path, used a sod cutter to preserve the lawn, and set our forms. To prevent heavy equipment from damaging the property, we transported and placed the concrete with a power buggy. By the time we finished, the yard looked untouched, except for the brand-new sidewalk providing safe, easy access to the backyard.

For Brie, the sidewalk is much more than just a concrete path. In her words: “For the past year, I watched my kids play in the backyard from the window, wishing I could be out there with them. But without a safe way to get back, my wheelchair couldn’t make it. Thanks to Superior Bowen, we now have a beautiful concrete walkway leading straight into the backyard. This isn’t just a sidewalk - it’s a pathway to presence, connection, and more time together as a family. I’m also looking forward to starting a little backyard garden, something I can tend to share with my kids.”

Her words remind us that our work goes beyond construction. Every project is a chance to build connections, create opportunities, and improve lives in our community.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT

FORD OUTFALL PROJECT

Building stormwater solutions that last generations. SB and Alberici lead upgrades at Ford’s largest assembly plant.

Ford has a long history in our region. The Kansas City Assembly Plant, which produces the Ford F-150 and the Ford Transit van, is the largest car manufacturing plant in the United States in terms of vehicles produced. In addition to the main assembly plant, the campus includes a paint shop, a body shop, and a stamping plant. These 4.7 million square feet of facilities sit on approximately 1,270 acres. Superior Bowen is working with Alberici (General Contractor) for stormwater improvements at Outfalls 27 and 28 near the Stamping Plant.

The improvements include dredging of two ponds, improvement of a series of regenerative stormwater pools, and cleaning of a series

of swales to capture, slow, and infiltrate the runoff to provide a groundwater recharge and clean the stormwater before being released to Shoal Creek and onto the Missouri River. The dredging of nearly 11 feet and over 12,000 CY of material that was spread and dried onsite before being reused to reshape the ponds and the surrounding area.

Outfall 28 cleared nearly 260,000 SF/ 6 acres, which is being revegetated with erosion control blankets embedded with native seeding and native deep cell plugs. Once established, the root systems of the native plantings will embed roots 12-18” into the soil to encourage stormwater infiltration.

Outfall 27 includes a series of regenerative step pools that convey runoff from an adjacent parking lot. This system allows pollutants and solids to fall out as stormwater works through the series of pools before arriving at the pond.

Less intensive but no less important is the cleaning of three swales that are being cleared of sediment and regraded to provide the conveyance of runoff around the Stamping Plant.

Both outfalls 27 and 28, and the swales make their way to the conventional stormwater pipe system, which outlets into Shoal Creek, and eventually into the Missouri River. Permanent access is included for ongoing maintenance of the entire system.

Safety has been critical to maintain in compliance with Ford. There are a host of environmental regulations surrounding the dredging and the improvements, and will continue to be monitored as the system grows to maturity.

In all, over 25,000 deep cell plugs and over 150,000 SY of seeded area will be revegetated.
