FAQ | Sun Valley Facts Sun Valley was established as the first destination ski resort in North America in 1936. The world’s first chairlift was introduced at Sun Valley Resort in 1936. Sun Valley Lodge, constructed in 1936, underwent a major renovation and reopened in June 2015. The Lodge has refurbished guest rooms, public spaces and a new 20,000 sq. ft. Spa and fitness center. Sun Valley Inn opened in 1937 as the Challenger Inn. The first phase of the remodel was completed in Dec. 2017. The completion of the remodel will be Jan. 2018. The Roundhouse / opened in 1939. Carol’s Dollar Lodge opened in 2006. The Sun Valley Pavilion and Sun Valley Clubhouse opened in 2008. Skiing / Over 2,000 skiable acres on both mountains and 3,400 vertical feet; Baldy’s longest ski run is 3 miles long!
