About The Broward Center for the Performing Arts

Simchat Torah on October 7th, 2003, what is important is that the community is join ing together, hearing the Ten Commandments and celebrating the Torah. But the good food certainly helps. The tradition to learn all night has been practiced ever since we received the Torah. On the very night before G-d gave the Torah, we went to sleep, waking late in the morning. As a symbolic rectification for this, Jews customarily stay awake studying Torah until the morning, on the first night of Shavuot, this year on Sunday night.

Since we all stood at Mount Sinai, we must all reaffirm our commitment. On Monday, June 2nd, the Ten Commandments will be read aloud from the Torah. Special emphasis is placed on including the entire Jewish family, includ ing little babies, the way the Torah’s giving was attended by every Jewish man, woman and child.

The word Torah means “instruction” or “guide.” The Torah guides our steps and moves through its 613 Mitzvahs. The word Mitzvah means both “commandment” and “connection.” Through the study of Torah and fulfillment of Mitzvahs, we connect ourselves and our environment to G-d. G-d’s purpose in creating the world was that all of creation be sanctified, imbuing it with holiness and spirituality.

Since Shavuot is also called the “Harvest Festival,” it is customary to adorn the home with fruits, flowers and greens.

Most of us are, thank G-d, able to get out and celebrate the way we have for over three thousand years. But for those that are for whatever reason staying home, that should in no way stop you from celebrating the holiday, since most of the holiday is super easy to celebrate even while at home alone. Not going to work, Eating dairy, Praying the special holiday prayers, Studying Torah all night, Decorating the home with flowers, The only things that we can’t do without a

quorum, are hearing the Ten Commandments read from the Torah and praying with a minyan. But you can still study the Ten Commandments from a Torah Book, known as a Chumash. And you can still read Yizkor, even without a minyan. To learn more about Shavuot and the many customs associated with it, visit: www.ChabadChayil.org/Shavuot. Say “I Do! I Do” At The Pompano Beach Cultural Center

A Delightful, Sentimental, Funny And Moving Musical Exploration

The Pompano Players final production of their inaugural season is I Do! I Do! – an intimate and nostalgic look at a marriage by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones (The Fantasticks). The production will open on Friday, May 23rd, 2025 at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center and run through Sunday, June 1st, 2025.

I Do! I Do! was written as a star vehicle for Mary Martin and Robert Preston; the original production received seven Tony Award nominations. The two-person musical focuses on Michael and Agnes, beginning on their wedding day and follows them as they navigate the ups and downs of their 50-year marriage. Set to a

delightful and tuneful score, I Do! I Do! is a lovely story of two soulmates navigating the realities of life together.

The production, directed by Carbonell Award-winner Andy Rogow, will star another Carbonell Award-winner - Lindsey Corey - as Agnes and Silver Palm Awardwinner Alex Jorth as Michael.

“Although growing up I had a huge collection of hundreds of original cast albums, I never owned I Do, I Do! nor had I ever seen a production of it. So, when I was asked to direct this production it was completely new to me,” Rogow says. “It is such a charming, intimate piece, with a score that is lovely and full of melodies

that I find myself humming throughout the day. It’s very similar in those ways to Schmidt and Jones most famous musical, The Fantasticks, which I directed this past fall. I Do, I Do! is also a show that relies on its star power and we certainly have that with Lindsey Corey and Alex Jorth. They are both true triple threats and audiences are going to fall in love with them.”

The I Do! I Do! creative team includes Music Director Eric Alsford; Amanda Lopez is the show’s Choreographer, Claudia Smith is the Scenic Designer, Lowell Richards is the Lighting Designer, Penny Williams is the Costume Designer and Elizabeth Guerra will take care of

Props. Jeremy Quinn will serve as the production’s Stage Manager. I Do! I Do! will run from Friday, May 23rd, 2025 – Sunday, June 1st, 2025 at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. The theatre is located at 50 West Atlantic Blvd, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060.

Performances: Fridays & Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. Saturdays & Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

LIFE IS MESSY

Life is what happens while you

and obstacles. This fact doesn’t negate the benefit of preparation. It simply requires an understanding of the type of forces at work.

A sailor would be remiss if he didn’t understand how to handle storms, currents, tides, sandbars, fog and darkness. Although the sailor has a clear destination in mind, the sea has its own characteristics that can’t be avoided or overcome. Should a mariner deny its existence his time afloat is certainly limited.

Just as the seasoned mariner recognizes and comprehends the behavior of the ocean, you need to accept the existence of life’s surprises. Once you do this, you will enhance your ability to successfully navigate the sea of life.

What should you do when your day becomes messy? How do you weather storms and avoid being derailed by obstacles? How do you respond when your plans fall apart? What strategy is appropriate when you feel things are going from bad to worse?

A messy day is no more unusual than waves on the water. Just go with the flow. Don’t panic or despair. Problems will be resolved and pass. With time they will seem insignificant if they are remembered at all. Accept messy days as normal and a fact of nature. You can’t stop or prevent them but you can ride them out.

Imagine walking down a bowling lane while people were bowling. You had no choice; you needed to get from one end to the other. What would you do? If you were to panic and stand still you would surely get hit by a bowling ball. To avoid injury, you would need to keep moving while constantly changing direction to avoid oncoming balls. Yet you would

always have the other end of the lane in sight. Employing this strategy, you would make it to the end of the lane unscathed. You begin each day at one end of the lane. The far end represents the end of the day. Some days there are no balls being thrown at you. Other days they are nonstop. Your life is no more than many days lined up in a row. If you get through each one, you get through life. There are those days when everything feels like it’s going downhill fast. One problem is followed by another. You barely have time to catch your breath. So be it. It happens. The challenge is to maintain your attitude in the face of this barrage. This isn’t easy. But if you don’t do it you risk becoming overwhelmed.

Separate the issues. Deal with each one independently. Choose a course of action for each, take it and then move onto the next one. Don’t analyze things to death. Make a decision. If you don’t, someone or something will make it for you

and it may not be one you are happy with. All the problems together are like a big box filled with bricks. Trying to move the box while it’s full is extremely difficult, if not impossible. Take one brick at a time and you can move any size box regardless of what it weighs when it’s loaded to capacity.

These are just a few suggestions. Find the one that works for you and stick with it. You have to get through each day anyway, so you may as well be an active participant. If you throw your hands up in frustration, you throw away your rudder and make yourself vulnerable to drifting out of control.

Life is messy. Develop techniques to make the best of things and do what it takes to get the most from each day.

Managing The Top 10 Symptoms Of Menopause Non-Medically

Holistic Health Doctor Helps Women Power Through Physical & Psychological Changes

Dr. Peter Amato, Ph.D., DNM, Founder of Inner Harmony Wellness Centers, a U.S.based holistic health care practice, will share his proven protocol of helping women manage Menopause naturally by hosting a Women’s Wellness Retreat on June 12 thru June 15 at the Harmony Mountain Institute in Scranton, PA.

Menopause will affect 1.1 billion women this year alone and can be a critical turning point for a woman’s health, both physically and mentally. This transition can be associated with a variety of irritating symptoms, such as night sweats, hot flashes and brain fog, as well as more severe ailments like Insulin Resistance, increased fat accumulation and Cholesterol Levels which can lead to Cardiovascular Disease and Osteoporosis. Doctor of Natural Medicine Peter Amato, Founder of the U.S.-based functional health practice Inner Harmony Wellness Centers, focuses on managing a woman’s symptoms and supporting overall wellbeing through a variety of non-medical methods, including lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, complementary therapies and will share his 30+ years of expertise on the topic at a public Women’s Wellness Retreat on from Thursday, June 12th, 2025 - Sunday, June 15th, 2025 at the Harmony Mountain Institute in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

“For too long, women have been embarrassed to talk about a natural process that may be significantly impacting their personal and professional lives,” said Dr. Peter Amato, Founder of Inner Harmony Wellness Centers. “Unfortunately, Menopause is a moving target of symptoms – when one is relieved, another one manifests. My functional medicine practice takes a total-body approach by testing the health of each cell and alleviating symptoms at the root level.”

Dr. Amato notes that his center’s unique protocol examines deep-seeded toxicity in a woman’s body. These toxins, such as fungal infections, Mold, heavy metals or parasites, wreak havoc on the Nervous and Endocrine System and get in the way of the body’s ability to function

optimally, including the ability to balance Hormones. Once revealed, Dr. Amato’s first step is to conduct a gentle cellular detoxification to remove the barriers. Next, he tests women for the need of Hormones, neurotransmitter support, vitamins, minerals, nutrition and creates a personalized wellness plan.

“Since Menopause varies in length of years for each woman, we encourage testing once a month for six consecutive months,” adds Dr. Amato. “This allows us to adapt to their bodies’ changing symptoms, needs and helps women feel more empowered and intuitive about what’s working for their bodies and what’s not.”

Dr. Amato discusses the top ten symptoms experienced by women in Menopause and natural ways to eliminate each one:

Hot Flashes/Night Sweats

Taking black cohosh, dong quai, red clover and St. John’s Wort supplements, as well as eating more soy products, like tofu, flaxseeds and edamame that contain Phytoestrogens can balance Hormones and reduce this annoyance.

Weight Gain

Women should focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein, quit smoking and limit caffeine and alcohol intake. Regular physical activity, like brisk walking, swimming or dancing boosts Cardiovascular health. including strength training and balance exercises, which preserve muscle mass.

Insomnia/Sleep Disturbances

Taking melatonin or valerian root supplements before bedtime can help achieve consistent sleep. Hypnosis, acupuncture, cognitive behavioral therapy, yoga and mindfulness can also help manage stress and improve sleep.

Thinning Hair

A diet rich in essential vitamins and minerals, like biotin, zinc, iron, omega-3 fatty acids and protein, can nourish hair follicles from within. Keratin, the primary protein in hair, requires a constant supply

of protein to maintain healthy strands. Drinking plenty of water is crucial for hair health and can help maintain moisture and prevent breakage. Rosemary, peppermint, and other essential oils can be added to scalp massages to further stimulate growth and improve scalp health.

Dull, Dry and Sagging Skin

Collagen, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and Vitamin D supplements help skin health, along with moisturizing with aloe vera, coconut oil, olive oil. Egg whites and yogurt naturally tighten skin. Eating bananas, which contain vitamins and natural oils, can help improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Drinking plenty of water is also crucial for skin health.

Fatigue

Eat regular meals and healthy snacks every 3 to 4 hours, rather than a large meal less often; lose weight to gain energy.

Vaginal Dryness

Topical Vitamin E oil applied to the vagina helps improve lubrication and may also reduce hot flashes.

Low Sex Drive

Addressing stress, improving sleep and engaging in regular physical activity can positively impact sex drive. Eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and circulation-boosting foods, like citrus fruits and peppers can also be beneficial. Certain foods are believed to have libidoboosting properties like chocolate, oysters, garlic, and fenugreek. Some individuals may find relief with supplements like Larginine, DHEA, ginseng, Ginkgo biloba, and maca.

Mood Swings

Evening Primrose and St. John’s Wort supplements, with an increase in exercise can keep moods regulated.

Brain Fog

Taking Vitamin C, ashwagandha, Ginkgo biloba, lion’s mane, magnesium

and B Vitamins or drinking ginseng tea can clear away confusion.

“Although Menopause is often considered a reproductive issue by most medical practitioners, this extensive list of debilitating symptoms proves that the effects of Menopause can ripple throughout the entire body,” said Dr. Amato. “We look forward to teaching all women how to balance the two key Hormones of Estrogen and Progesterone that regulate and support many other bodily systems at our upcoming Women’s Wellness Retreat.” To register for the Women’s Wellness Retreat at Harmony Mountain Institute, please visit: https://harmonymountaininstitute.com/ upcoming-health-and-wellness-retreats/

Make A Difference Around The World Open Your Home And Your Heart-Host An Exchange Student

Families across the U.S. have a unique opportunity to experience a new culture right in their own homes. ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, a non-profit public benefit organization, is currently seeking warm and welcoming host families to open their homes to international exchange students for the upcoming school year.

Hosting an exchange student is a lifechanging experience for families that fosters cultural understanding, builds lifelong friendships, while enriching local communities. Students, aged 15-18 years, come from over 60 countries around the world, including France, Japan, Italy, Denmark, Australia, Spain and many more. The students are carefully selected based on their academic performance, English proficiency, and personal character, and they are eager to become part

of an American family, attend a local high school and share their own traditions.

During their stay, ASSE exchange students immerse themselves in American culture by living with and becoming part of a volunteer host family while attending a local high school. This experience allows them to improve their English skills, form lifelong friendships and gain a deeper understanding of American life and values. In return, host families and communities benefit from the unique perspectives and cultural exchange that these students bring.

“Being a host family isn’t just about providing a place to stay; it’s about making a student from another country part of the family,” says Saphia Lesch, ASSE Regional Director. “Many host families find that the experience is just as rewarding for them as it is for the student. The bonds

formed often last a lifetime.” “Exchange students bring energy, curiosity and fresh perspectives to their host families and communities. They attend local schools, participate in activities and become a real family member.”

Host families provide a safe and supportive home, meals, and encouragement, while students come with their own spending money and health insurance, ensuring that hosting is a rewarding and enriching experience without financial burden. Anyone with a warm and welcoming home can host an exchange student! Host families come in many forms, including married couples (with or without children), single parents, young professionals, empty-nesters, same-sex couples, and retirees.

ASSE also offers qualified American students the opportunity to learn another

language and culture by spending a school year, semester or a summer with a host family in another country.

Founded in the USA in 1976, ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, a non-profit, public benefit organization, is a trusted name in Cultural Exchange. Through its mission to promote global understanding and goodwill, ASSE creates life-changing opportunities for young people and their host families to experience different cultures, learn new perspectives and develop lifelong friendships.

If you own and occupy a one or two family house you may be eligible to act as your own contractor per State Statute (489.103(7). As an owner-builder though, if you do not complete all of the work yourself, you must supervise the work, and hire Licensed Trade Subcontractors: Electrician, Plumbing, A/C and Roof; in accordance with State Law. Owners acting as their own contractor are required to personally appear for all permitting, provide proof that the property is properly insured and be present for all inspections. All the requirements are found on the Owner Builder Affidavit.

A Notice of Commencement is required to be submitted when the total contract price is greater than $5,000. A recorded copy of the N.O.C. can be submitted with the permit application or made available on the job site before your first inspection.

A Notice of Commencement is not required for the repair or replacement of an existing heating or air-conditioning sys-

According to Florida Law, those who work on your property or provide materials, and are not paid-in-full, have a right to enforce their claim for payment against your property. This claim is known as a Construction Lien. If your contractor fails to pay subcontractors or material suppliers, the people who are owed money may look to your property for payment, even if you have paid your contractor in full. This means that if a Lien is filed against your property, your property could be sold against your will to pay for labor, materials, or other services that your contractor may have failed to pay. The result is a menu that’s collaborative, expressive and uniquely Phuc Yea! Served with thoughtful garnishes, these cocktails are elegant on their own— but when combined with their paired snacks, something transformative happens. Each combo creates a third flavor moment that’s unexpected, smart and deeply satisfying. This isn’t your average

sip-and-snack setup. It’s culinary storytelling in liquid form. Phuc Yea’s bar is technique-driven, leaning into clarification, house infusions, CO2 carbonation, fresh, Southeast Asian ingredients like watermelon basil, red bell pepper and coco-cashew orgeat. These cocktails aren’t just delicious—they’re intentional, layered and built to impress.

The Golden Hour is available by reservation in the lobby lounge and high tops via: www.phucyea.com, while the bar remains first come, first served. Free parking is available onsite, while it lasts.
