Do You Snore? Are You Always Tired?

Snoring Is No Laughing

Matter!

It may be more than just an annoying habit, it may be a sign of Sleep Apnea

What Exactly is Sleep Apnea?

When the muscles that control the upper airway relax, some people begin to snore. When the airway becomes completely blocked and the person temporarily stops breathing, this is an episode of “Obstructive Apnea.” Each Apnea event may last for a few seconds or up to a couple minutes or more. Events may happen frequently - even several hundred times a night.

Can This Condition Be Treated? How?

There are many effective treatments for snoring. A widely accepted treatment for Sleep Apnea is oral appliance therapy. An oral device custom fit by your dentist is designed to keep your airway open and help prevent Apneas.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine

Recommends an oral appliance as a first-line treatment option for patients with mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and for those with severe OSA who either decline CPAP Therapy or are unable to successfully use CPAP Therapy.

This treatment does not involve medications or surgery and helps hundreds of thousands of people all over the world enjoy sleeping safely for a healthier life. Many experience the benefits quickly - often during the first night of use.

Chef Maxfield, a Miami restaurant veteran who honed his skills overseeing Toscana Divino, Ironside Pizza and LTD Café, as well as serving as Corporate Chef for Chef Brad Kilgore’s award-winning concepts is the perfect complement to Giangrandi and Meyer’s culinary skills and impressive work ethic. See + Be Seen - The Haute Table: Anthony’s Runway 84 is one of South Florida’s most legendary dining institutions and is forty years fabulous! The celebrity magnet and predecessor to the likes of Café Martorano and Carbone, known for its Italian-American cookery, Goodfellas glam and dinner party vibe, reopened in January 2023 after a $4 Million makeover. For its new incarnation, partners Anthony Bruno, Marc Falsetto and Pat Marzano created a cool, contemporary supper club with nods to its storied past, from its famous rigatoni cauliflower and meatballs and Sunday gravy to classic artwork and celebrity wall of fame. Fresh Fish Hot Off The Grates Tips For Perfectly Grilled Seafood

(Family Features) Whether you’re a seasoned grilling expert or new to backyard barbecuing, expanding your menu with seafood offers a fun, flavorful way to bring life to outdoor entertaining.

Grilling fish is different from traditional fare like burgers and steaks, however. One method capturing the attention of chefs and amateur barbecue enthusiasts alike is electric grilling. With technology innovations that enable higher heat and more precise control, along with easy-touse, guided cooking delivered via smartphone apps, grilling seafood can be simpler than ever.

Master the art of grilled seafood with these tips from Trimell Hawkins, Executive Chef and Culinary Adviser to Current Backyard.

Not all fish are the same. There’s a common misconception that all fish can be grilled, but not all fish is created equally. Avoid flaky fish like Trout and instead turn to a firm fish when grilling, such as Branzino in this Grilled Whole Branzino with Fresh Herb Sauce recipe from Celebrity Chef Alton Brown.

Moisture is not your friend. While you’re likely aiming for a fresh, moist flavor when eating fish, that doesn’t mean it should be wet when it goes on the grill. For beautiful, crisp skin and grill marks, pat fish dry to absorb the moisture before grilling.

Temperature is key. There’s a sweet spot for grilling fish, whether it’s 400˚ F for thinner fish or slightly above 400˚ F for thicker cuts, which is why electric grilling is gaining steam. An option like the Current Backyard Electric Grill precisely monitors and controls temperature at the grate level, ensuring accurate cooking where it truly matters, unlike gas grills measuring chamber heat or charcoal grills requiring guesswork.

Ready to cook in 10 minutes, it’s a convenient solution that plugs into a standard 110-volt outlet, meaning there’s no heavy propane tanks or messy charcoal standing between you and delicious grilled seafood. Plus, electric grilling reduces fire risks, harmful fumes and cleanup time.

There’s a “right” way to cook fish. If

and durable than the inside. This gives the finished dish more stability and structure, lessening the chances of the fish falling apart.

Be careful with sugar. Sugary marinades require keeping a close watch on the grill since sugar can burn. If cooked properly, sugars help create a crispy Maillard reaction while acting as a tenderizer, too.

Grilled Whole Branzino with Fresh Herb Sauce Recipe courtesy of Chef Alton Brown on behalf of Current Backyard

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Serves: 4

Fresh Herb Sauce:

• 2 Tablespoons of Chopped Dill

• 1/4 Cup of chopped Parsley

• 1/2 Teaspoon of Kosher Salt

• 1/4 Teaspoon of Red Pepper Flakes

• 1 Tablespoon of Lemon Zest

• 1 Tablespoon of Lemon Juice

• 3/4 Cup of Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

Branzino:

• 2 Head-on Whole Branzinos

• about 1 pound each), cleaned and scaled

• 2 Teaspoons of Kosher Salt

• 1 Lemon, sliced into six rounds

• 6-8 Sprigs of Dill

• 6-8 Sprigs of Parsley

• 2 Teaspoons of Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

To make the fresh Herb Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the Dill, the Parsley, the Chives, the Garlic, the Salt, the Red Pepper Flakes, the Lemon Zest, the Lemon Juice and the Olive Oil; then set them aside.

Set both sides of the grill to 650˚ F

Fish inside and out with the Kosher Salt. Fill the cavity of each Fish with the Lemon Slices, the Dill Sprigs and the Parsley Sprigs then tie them with kitchen twine to secure them and refrigerate them until they are ready to be grilled.

Evenly coat the skin of both Fish with the Olive Oil. Insert the temperature probe into the thickest part of flesh of each Fish, parallel to the dorsal fin, then place them on the grill with the belly sides toward you. Close the lid and cook them for 5 minutes.

Open the lid and gently turn the Fish over with a thin metal spatula or two forks. Close the lid and cook them for 5 more minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145˚ F.

Transfer the Fish to a platter and remove the twine. Serve the Fish topped with the Fresh Herb Sauce.

Delivering Hope To Cancer Patients

“Super Immune Cells” The Latest Weapon In The Battle Against Solid Tumors

For more than a decade, Cancer has been Judith Hetlage’s constant companion, always present and threatening. What began with a diagnosis of Synovial Sarcoma, a rare tumor in the connective tissue of joints, ultimately resulted in Cancer Cells spreading to her lungs. “I felt like that was the death sentence,” she said. But a fortunate thing happened on the way to what Hetlage thought would be her demise. Memorial Cancer Institute began an innovative clinical trial for TCR-T (T-cell Receptor Therapy), an immunotherapy that harvests a patient’s T-cells and genetically modifies them to recognize a specific Protein within Cancer Cells, and infuses the cells back into the person’s immune system to search and destroy the diseased cells. While a similar approach has been successfully utilized at Memorial

through its collaboration with the Moffitt Malignant Hematology and Cellular Therapy program for the treatment of Blood Cancers, it had never before been used on a solid tumor.

“Additionally, Judith’s specific Cancer hadn’t initially been included in the trial, but HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) testing indicated she had the type of white blood cells that would enable the immune system to recognize specific Protein Receptors within her tumor,” said Dr. Atif Hussein, Hetlage’s Oncologist and Director of Memorial’s Hematology & Oncology Fellowship Training Program.

“We introduced the HLA type and the antigen in the modified T-cell, which then was able to recognize the Cancer Cells as something foreign to the body that should be killed.”

Hetlage, a mother to three daughters,

was infused with what Dr. Hussein calls “super immune cells” and then received a second dose less than two weeks later to empower an immune system that had been depleted and emptied of bone marrow prior to the treatment. The process, called lymph depletion therapy, allows the super cells to find a home to reside in the immune system.

“Cell therapies are the next wave of Cancer Treatment and offer options when more traditional approaches stop working,” said Dr. Hugo Fernandez, Chair and Medical Director of the Moffitt Program at Memorial Healthcare System. “Markers on Cancer Cells, even in rare cases, allow us to hit the disease where it lives, something established programs at Memorial are ready to do as new research is conducted.”

Hetlage, an animal welfare advocate, is

optimistic about her future and says she feels uplifted by the Memorial team. The Fort Lauderdale resident is also thankful that innovative, world-class care is available close to home, since previous treatment regimens required her to uproot her family to seek care in Boston. “Research now being done here uses innovation and technology to push the standard of care for our patients,” said Dr. Brian Pico, a Hematologist-Oncologist at Memorial Cancer Institute and the Principal Investigator on the TCR-T study. “In some cases, it provides them options that aren’t available elsewhere.”

To learn more about TCR-T for solid tumors or any of the nearly 80 clinical trials offered at Memorial, request information online or call: (954) 265-1847.

‘Autism Epidemic Runs Rampant,’

New Data Shows

Autism prevalence in the U.S. has increased from 1 in 36 children to 1 in 31, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network survey published today in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

1

In 31 Children Afflicted

“The Autism Epidemic is running rampant,” said U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “One in 31 American children born in 2014 are disabled by Autism. That’s up significantly from two years earlier and nearly five times higher than when the CDC first started running Autism sur-

veys in children born in 1992. Prevalence for boys is an astounding 1 in 20 and in California it’s 1 in 12.5.”

“President Trump has tasked me with identifying the root causes of the Childhood Chronic Disease Epidemic -including Autism,” Secretary Kennedy continued. “We are assembling teams of

world-class scientists to focus research on the origins of the epidemic and we expect to begin to have answers by September.”

The new ADDM Report was conducted in 2022 across 16 sites in the U.S. and surveyed children aged 8 years born in 2014. This latest Autism prevalence is 4.8 times higher than in the first ADDM survey 22 years ago, when prevalence was 1 in 150 children.

The increase in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) prevalence cannot be solely attributed to the expansion of diagnoses to include higher functioning children. On the contrary, the percentage of ASD Cases with higher IQs (> 85) has decreased steadily over the last six ADDM Reports to 36.1% in the 2022 Survey. Nearly two thirds of children with ASD in the latest survey had either severe or borderline Intellectual Disability (ID).

Minority children were more severely affected. Black, Asian, and Hispanic children in the 2022 Survey had higher overall ASD prevalence (3.66%, 3.82%, and 3.30%, respectively) than White children (2.77%), and were also more likely to have a more severe form of autism. Among Black, Asian, and Hispanic children, 78.9%, 66.5%, and 63.9%, respectively, had either severe or borderline ID, compared to 55.6% of Whites.

This report exposes a series of critical public health crises, including a persistent rise in ASD prevalence, an alarming escalation in case severity, and increasingly stark disparities across racial and ethnic groups. This also highlights the urgent need for real-time data.

A deeply troubling finding in the survey is that among children aged 4 years born in 2018, the overall ASD prevalence rate is 2.93% (1 in 34). Prevalence rates typically rise as children age from 4 to 8 and more cases are diagnosed. Compared to the 8year-olds in the new report, the 4-yearolds showed wider differences by race and ethnicity. Overall prevalence among Black, Asian, and Hispanic children in this group was 3.5%, 3.11%, and 3.82%, respectively, compared to 2.04% among White children. “The Autism Epidemic has now reached a scale unprecedented in human history because it affects the young,” said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “The risks and costs of this crisis are a thousand times more threatening to our country than COVID-19. Autism is preventable and it is unforgivable that we have not yet identified the underlying causes. We should have had these answers 20 years ago.”
