Twenty five years after Hurricane Andrew
How many have managed to put their lives back together By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Twenty five years ago this morning, South Florida - as we knew it changed for so many families. As Hurricane Andrew came ashore in South County, Miami-Dade thousands and thousands watched their lives get turned upside down - literally!
The Category 5 hurricane that struck MiamiDade and part of Broward defined the way many would prepare for storms in the future. It was a storm that has certainly been a hot topic every year. For an area that had numerous brushes with storms off the coast of the Sunshine State, Hurricane Andrew was the
most destructive hurricane to ever hit Florida until it was later surpassed by Katrina in 2005. Mindy Alvarez remembers the storm well. The Hallandale Beach resident, 44, was a week away from leaving her home in South MiamiDade County to go back Andrew, Page 2A
Proposed Re-Zoning Penn Dutch is changing For 441 A Huge Issue the way South Florida eats Hollywood - The City of Hollywood is holding a community meeting to provide information on the proposed re-zoning of the State Road 7 Corridor in Hollywood from Pembroke Road to Griffin Road. The meeting is on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Hollywood City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard in Room 219. This area is designated as a transit oriented corridor (TOC). The proposed zoning changes are designed to help promote redevelopment along the corridor that is appropriate for a transit oriented area. This

Due to popular demand, Friday’s Live Music Series at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach has been extended.
The free event has been so popular this summer, that instead of ending on Sept. 1, there will be four concerts during the month of September. Starting with a Sept. 8 Rock Band event, Friday’s Live Music Series will continue through Sept. 29 - with Jimmy Williamson & His All-Star Band.
