The World Classic at Marlins Park hosted a tremendous array of Major League talent, but it also served as a place to voice an opinion or two on walls and bans By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Miami – At a time when not being from the United States isn’t very popular with the current administration, Ana Mendez wore the colors proudly of her native country on Saturday night at Marlins Park. With so much attention, courtesy of President Donald Trump, being paid to foreigners of all kinds, the Hallandale Beach resident came to make things clear that she was indeed a proud Dominican. While it was only a baseball game between the United States and the Dominican Republic, Mendez, her boyfriend, Keith, and two sons – Isaac and J.J. - came to cheer on the country she was born in. “What used to separate the United States from the rest of the world, is that
you could show pride in your country – while respecting where you live in this nation,” Mendez pointed out. “I have friends who live around the world and they love this country because of the freedom to express and to come and go – without having to worry about being deported.” Mendez joined baseball fans from throughout the world at Marlins Park as part of Baseball’s World Classic that has long united countries and not alienate them. With nations from around the world competing in this event, that comes around every four years, it is with the intention of having “America’s Favorite Pastime” being that bridge that opens doors in destinations such as Japan and Korea, Cuba, Mexico, and several Eur-

Paddles Up for Ping-Pong Two local restaurants By Joaquin Arellano City of Hollywood Hollywood - PingPong, or table tennis as it’s officially known, is growing in popularity across the country and it has found a home right here in Hollywood. Ping-Pong Open Play sessions are happening weekly at the Shuffleboard Center on Tuesdays & Thursday’s 12 to 9 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
