BREW CITY

With more than 70 craft breweries, Portland is a nirvana for beer lovers. Or, as the city likes to say, it’s “Beervana.”

Allegiant passengers can discover some of Portland’s best brews by visiting one of their neighborhoods.

HAWTHORNE AND BUCKMAN

The Hawthorne and Buckman neighborhoods boast several great breweries. Beer enthusiasts can begin at Ecliptic Brewing’s Moon Room satellite taproom, where patrons sip flagship offerings, seasonal favorites and “Cosmic Collaboration” beers. A six-minute walk away, Cascade Brewing Barrel House is known for its crushable sour beers while, across the street, Rogue Eastside Pub has 36 of its own labels on tap.

Dog lovers will want to continue to dogfriendly Lucky Labrador Brew Pub for an IPA, or to Away Days Brewing Co. for a Europeaninspired brew. For Allegiant passengers with a car, Baerlic Brewery, one of Portland’s best, is just down 11th Avenue.

PEARL DISTRICT

Craft beer drinkers can visit four breweries in

the Pearl District. While all are within walking distance, 10 Barrel Brewing makes a good starting point. The brewery features an IPAheavy lineup plus its popular sours. Nearby, Backwoods Brewing serves a mix of styles, ranging from lager and ale to IPA, stout and porter.

At Deschutes Brewery Public House, Allegiant passengers can sample the Black Butte Porter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale or Chasin’ Freshies before heading to Von Ebert Brewing for a pint. The brewery serves handcrafted pizza and house-smoked meats, too.

KERNS

In the Kerns neighborhood, award-winning Culmination Brewing has several hazy and other IPAs on tap as well as a variety of additional styles. From there, beer enthusiasts thirsting for more can walk 10 minutes or take a 3-minute rideshare to Migration Brewing. This microbrewery specializes in hazy IPAs, lagers and experimental beers.

Passengers who want to explore beyond these Portland neighborhoods can find great craft beer at Assembly Brewing, StormBreaker Brewing, Breakside Brewery, Hopworks Urban Brewery and Wayfinder Beer, to name a few. For more information about Portland’s craft beer scene, visit travelportland.com.

TUCSON SPA RETREAT

Surrounded by the cactus-studded Sonoran Desert and blessed by 300-plus days of sunshine, Tucson has been a refuge for those seeking health and wellness since its earliest days. While wellness retreats allow guests to unplug for several days, Allegiant passengers can also escape for a few hours at one of many popular Tucson spas.

SPAWELL

This new spa at the iconic El Conquistador Tucson resort boasts views of the Pusch Ridge from the spa’s lobby and its outdoor pool. But even the view becomes a faint memory as masseuses work their magic inside the spa’s eight treatment rooms.

Popular treatments include the Custom Alchemy Bar experience, which begins by creating a custom body butter, and the Pusch Ridge Desert Escape, which ends with a sound bowl session. Before or after their treatment, guests can linger by the adults-only pool or in the salt therapy lounge. hilton.com

HASHANI SPA

The award-winning spa at JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort takes its name from the Tohono O’odham word for saguaro cactus, and uses local ingredients in its treatments, such as copper, prickly pear, sage and aloe.

Although spa-goers can enjoy a relaxing Swedish, deep tissue and therapeutic massage, Allegiant passengers may want to indulge in the Cactus Blossom treatment, which uses a blue corn scrub to polish the skin and shea body butter to soften it. The rest of the day can be spent unwinding at the spa’s private saline pool, cabanas and hot tubs. marriott.com

SPA AT HACIENDA

Located in the historic Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort, the recently-expanded Spa at Hacienda has six treatment rooms where guests can treat themselves to some of Arizona’s most luxurious spa experiences. The 100-minute Hacienda Sommelier Ritual begins with your “Sommelier” offering you a flight of botanical essences, includes the Crushed Grape Body Scrub, full body massage, facial massage and finishes with a glass of sommelier-selected wine.

Meanwhile, the CBD Customized Massage combines warming analgesics, including clove, turmeric, black pepper and cinnamon, for deep relief of sore muscles and joints. Following treatment, guests can relax in the property’s hot tubs and three pools. haciendadelsol.com

ONE ROCKIN’

RODEO

Miranda Lambert’s new residency is sure to become one of Las Vegas’ hottest tickets

Over the years, some of country music’s biggest stars have launched their own headlining residencies in Las Vegas, including Shania Twain, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn and Keith Urban. This fall, the Entertainment Capital of the World will add yet another acclaimed country music artist to its mustsee music residency lineup when the most decorated artist in the history of the Academy of Country Music Awards, Miranda Lambert, kicks off “Miranda Lambert: Velvet Rodeo The Las Vegas Residency” inside Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

Miranda Lambert’s clothing andcowboy boot collection, Idyllwind, issold at Boot Barn stores nationwide, including its five Las Vegas locations.

Scheduled for 24 performances through April 9, 2023, “Miranda Lambert: Velvet Rodeo The Las Vegas Residency” premieres in September. The production promises to give fans of the 37-time Academy of Country Music Awards winner an up-closeand-personal opportunity to experience many of her chart-topping hits and beloved album cuts live like never before.

“This will definitely be a one-of-a-kind Miranda Lambert experience,” Lambert teased when promoting the production to the press back in April. “That’s the point of Vegas. So, I’m trying to figure out the puzzle pieces, and trying to get from Kerosene (Lambert’s debut studio album, released in 2005) to Palomino (Lambert’s eighth studio album, released this past April) in the most artistic and fun way. The idea that we could take it up a few notches for production is exciting to me and scary, because I usually just keep it pretty much about the music. I’m from Texas, though, so bigger hair and more sequins — don’t threaten me with a good time.”

Lambert noted that she’s had fun designing her sets, merchandise and clothing and boot lines in the past, so she’s looking forward to tapping into her creative side even more

with the new residency. Before she could do that, though, she needed a name for her show, and luckily “Velvet Rodeo” came to her right off the bat when the residency came to the table.

“I think it feels feminine, but it also says rodeo,” Lambert stated. “So, that’s like

17nonstoplife

feminine and bad-ass, and that’s kind of what I built my career on. That’s a nutshell of my catalog, really.”

Known for such hit songs as “If I Was a Cowboy,” “The House That Built Me” and “Bluebird,” Lambert has had a storied career that’s included more than 70 prestigious awards, including three GRAMMY Awards and 14 Country Music Association Awards. Additionally, she is the youngest artist ever to serve as the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Artist in Residence, joining a legendary list of predecessors that includes Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark, Tom T. Hall and Jerry Douglas.

While music plays a big role in Lambert’s life, UPROXX’s “queen of modern country” is also a huge animal lover. During a recent interview with People magazine, Lambert shared that she and her husband, retired NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin, have six horses, five dogs, two cats, two goats, two miniature horses and a handful of chickens at her Nashville-area farm. Not surprisingly, $1 from every ticket purchased to see “Miranda Lambert: Velvet Rodeo The

Las Vegas Residency” will be donated to Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation, which promotes the adoption of rescue pets, supports animal shelters across the country and assists with the transport of animals during times of natural disaster. Since its inception in 2009, the nonprofit organization has raised more than $6 million.

Tickets to see “Miranda Lambert: Velvet Rodeo The Las Vegas Residency” start at $79, plus taxes and fees, with VIP Table packages also available that include a bottle of Moët & Chandon Impérial to enjoy during the concert. Show time is at 8 p.m., with upcoming performances scheduled for Sept. 23, 24, 28 and 30; Oct. 1, 5, 7 and 8; Nov. 26, 27 and 30; and Dec. 3, 4, 8, 10 and 11.

“It’ll be so different and I think it’s gonna be a new energy for me,” Lambert concluded. “I think it’s gonna hopefully breathe new life into my process. It’s Vegas — you need to bring your A game. There’s everything you ever wanted there and a lot of it, and I want to be one of those things people want; I want to be one of the things on their list.” ticketmaster.com/mirandavegas

Female chefs behind the culinary art scene in Vegas

Las Vegas sets a high standard for the culinary world, as celebrity chefs and new culinary talent alike vie for the spotlight.

With more than 4,600 restaurants recognized by TripAdvisor, there are plenty of places to explore. Female representation within the United States culinary community is meager, at only 7 percent, but there are many femaleowned or female-run businesses that offer an incredible food experience in Vegas. If you’re looking to support the female culinary art scene in Vegas, or if you’re just looking for an incredible meal, there are a few top restaurants you should visit.

The Black Sheep

This French-influenced Vietnamese American restaurant was inspired by co-owner and chef Jamie Tran’s background, as she brings French techniques to classic Vietnamese flavors. After opening her restaurant, Tran was invited onto “Top Chef” and made it to the final four. Tran was also named a finalist in the 2022 James Beard category of Best Chef: Southwest. At The Black Sheep, you can find seasonal menus with dishes such as Thai Basil Shrimp Ceviche, Salmon Skin Tacos and Fried Whole Rainbow Trout. blacksheepvegas.com

Celebrity chef Lorena Garcia brought Chica to The Venetian in 2017. The high-end restaurant offers a diverse mix of dishes inspired from all across Latin America, drawing influence from Garcia’s Venezuelan background. NEW AND NOTEWORTHY

Whether you’re looking for a quick bite to eat or an all-vegan fine dining experience, the Las Vegas Strip’s ever-evolving dining scene is sure to have something new to savor — no matter what you’re craving.

THE BOSS CAFE AT THE LINQ HOTEL + EXPERIENCE

Inspired by the neighborhood delis in New Jersey and New York that celebrity chef Buddy Valastro grew up with, this quick service eatery is “all about the Mutz.” Guests can enjoy fresh mozzarella hand pulled before their very eyes in a variety of impeccable focaccia sandwiches, such as the Jersey Roast Beef made with garlic butter and sweet or spicy peppers, or savor their freshmade mozzarella with an assortment of tasty toppings like tomato-olive relish. Bakery-style pizza squares are also available by the slice (try the perfectly breaded Chicken Parm), and there’s an extensive selection of cakes, cookies and pastries — including Valastro’s signature creamfilled Lobster Tail pastries — for dessert. bosscafe.com

CROSSROADS KITCHEN AT RESORTS WORLD LAS VEGAS

Taste buds won’t believe that the menu at this famed Los Angeles restaurant is completely plant based. Acclaimed chef Tal Ronnen wows palates with each dish on the Italian/Mediterraneaninspired menu, from the taquito-like Impossible Cigars, served with spicy almond milk yogurt, to the house-made Tagliatelle Bolognese. While nothing on the menu disappoints, no visit is complete without the almond ricotta Stuffed Zucchini Blossoms and one of the restaurant’s spirit-less cocktails. The Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita made with Seedlip Garden 108 is undoubtedly the best mocktail on the Strip! rwlasvegas.com/dining/crossroads

TOSCANA RISTORANTE & BAR BY EATALY AT PARK MGM

Serving classic Tuscan cuisine that takes diners on a flavorful journey through Central Italy’s countryside, this Italian restaurant adds a bit of romance to Eataly’s culinary marketplace. Couples can share an assortment of delectable dishes for dinner, from handmade pastas like the Lasagna Rustica Al Forno made with 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano, to the succulent wood-fired Fiorentina porterhouse steak finished tableside with salt and extra virgin olive oil. The selections can be paired with a variety of vinos by the glass. When it’s time for dessert, the housemade gelato scooped tableside is a definite palate pleaser. eataly.com

WALK-ON’S SPORTS BISTREAUX AT HARRAH’S LAS VEGAS

Co-owned by former NFL quarterback Drew Brees, this Louisiana sports bar always scores high with taste buds thanks to its scratch-made Cajun cuisine. Sports fans can catch all of the action on one of 86 TVs and place their wagers on site while relishing such luscious items for lunch or dinner as the blackened Gator Wrap or the filling Cajundillas: chipotle tortillas stuffed with chicken, andouille sausage, boudin and caramelized onions. FLAVORS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE

It may come as no surprise to hear that the Strip’s newest resort, Resorts World Las Vegas, is home to the most Michelin Plate and Bib Gourmand awarded culinary concepts under one roof in the country. What people might not expect, though, is to find all those eateries in the property’s food hall.

Redefining the quick-service dining experience in Las Vegas, Famous Foods Street Eats pays homage to the lively scene and culture that has been savored at Asia’s most popular hawker centres for nearly a century. Featuring 17 food stalls, one speakeasy and a center bar, the 24,000-square-foot venue serves a variety of dishes curated by top chefs and restaurateurs from around the world.

“No other food outpost in Las Vegas offers such diversity in dining choices,” said Devin Hashimoto, executive chef for Resorts World Las Vegas. “It was our hope to create a truly unique space that offers a variety of high-

quality food choices in an accessible venue that can be enjoyed by all ages.”

From Japanese sushi and Singaporean claypot rice to Nashville-style hot chicken and Texas barbeque, there’s sure to be something for everyone to relish at Famous Foods Street Eats. Earlier this year, the diverse dining destination welcomed four new eateries as well: Famous Pho, Harajuku Ramen, Burger Barn and the full-service, sitdown restaurant, Fuhu Cha Chaan Teng. The latter offers an assortment of mouthwatering items for guests to enjoy, including dim sum, congee and whole crispy Peking duck.

Diners can choose to order their dishes from each stall individually or via one of the digital kiosks located throughout the venue and be notified via text when their order is ready for pick up. Whether guests are seeing one of the funniest names in the business headlining a showroom on the Strip or a rising comedy star performing at one of the city’s sidesplitting comedy clubs, there’s no shortage of ways for visitors to tickle their funny bone in Las Vegas.

Masters of Magic

Penn & Teller continue to amaze audiences with their hit Las Vegas residency

Twenty-one may be a lucky number while playing blackjack (saying, of course, the player is the one holding the cards), but luck had little to do with Penn & Teller recently celebrating 21 years at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

The longtime Las Vegas headliners are two of the hardest working magicians in the business, as proven by their hit production at the Rio. Performing inside the luxurious 1,475-seat Penn & Teller Theater, the show has constantly evolved over the decades. In addition to featuring classic selections from the duo’s extensive catalog of illusions, the production showcases innovative new bits that continue to challenge the pair — like when they learned how to make an African spotted pygmy elephant vanish onstage.

“Most acts develop new material to keep working — we keep working to develop new material,” Penn Jillette, the more outspoken half of the “Bad Boys of Magic,” said. “We’re both over 60, so we have enough material to last the rest of our lives. Yet, we keep writing new stuff. The motivation is internal. The goal is to always keep challenging ourselves. We get the most excited now over the possibility of things we can’t do, many of which we actually can’t. We only want to do hard stuff.”

Las Vegas audiences will be treated to several new illusions when Penn & Teller perform this fall, as they are known for working in bits that they developed for their hit TV series, “Penn & Teller: Fool Us,” every time a new season premieres. Fans can catch the show’s ninth season when it debuts on The CW on Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. The show will feature a mix of new and returning contestants, including favorites Helen Coughlan and Jandro — both record holders for fooling Penn & Teller — and fellow Las Vegas magic headliners Piff the Magic Dragon and Mac King.

As if mesmerizing audiences with some of the most innovative tricks ever performed on a Las Vegas stage wasn’t enough, Jillette also captivates ticket holders before each show with his bass-playing skills. Joined by the production’s music director, jazz pianist Mike Jones, Jillette plays jazz onstage each night as ticket holders walk into the theater. Audiences are encouraged to arrive early to the show to enjoy the free preshow entertainment for as long as possible before Jillette heads backstage to start the production.

Penn & Teller perform Thursday through Sunday at 9 p.m., with select Monday and Tuesday performances. Tickets start at $75, plus taxes and fees. Even if you’ve seen them live before, Penn & Teller always have something new up their sleeves to keep fans entertained, so be sure to check them out during your Vegas getaway. caesars.com/rio-lasvegas/shows/penn-teller

NEW IN TOWN

Las Vegas wouldn’t be the Entertainment Capital of the World if there wasn’t always something new in town for audiences to enjoy.

Several stellar shows have debuted recently, including Cirque du Soleil’s latest resident production, “Mad Apple.” A love letter to New York City, the show at New York-New York Hotel & Casino is unlike anything Cirque du Soleil has done before. In addition to the astonishing acrobatics fans have come to expect from Cirque du Soleil, including a fun basketball trampoline act, the production features hilarious performances by stand-up comedians Brad Williams and Harrison Greenbaum and freestyle comedy rapper Chris Turner. There are also live singers and musicians performing a variety of hit songs from artists like Alicia Keys and Billy Joel — sometimes among the audience. Be sure to arrive early, as the interactive preshow entertainment begins the minute the theater doors open. madapplelv.com

Audiences can enjoy even more jawdropping acrobatics at “ROUGE: The Sexiest Show in Vegas.” The titillating, adults-only production at The STRAT Hotel, Casino & SkyPod features some of the most impressive acrobatic performances showcased in any Las Vegas show, as well

By the show’s climax, hearts are sure to be racing! rouge-vegas.com

The award-winning production “Bat Out of Hell – The Musical” will soon kick off its highly anticipated Las Vegas residency when it debuts at Paris Las Vegas on Sept. 27. Set to Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf’s greatest hits, the musical is a Rocky-Horror, Romeo-and-Juliet celebration of star-crossed lovers from opposite sides of the tracks caught in a city teetering on the brink of disaster. Audiences will hear such chart-topping songs from the writer and singer’s Bat Out of Hell albums as “Paradise By the Dashboard Light” and “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” as well as a previously unreleased song, “What Part of My Body Hurts the Most,” making the musical a must-see for fans of the late rock legends. batoutofhellmusical. com/las-vegas

Visitors hoping to enrich their mind during their trip to Las Vegas will discover several diverse museums downtown that are both educational and entertaining.

At The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, guests will go on an informative journey that details everything from the birth of the Mob to today’s crime-related headlines. Home to hundreds of artifacts, including the brick wall from the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, the 41,000-square-foot museum features a variety of interactive exhibits, films and high-tech audiovisual displays that examine in depth topics such as how Las Vegas was the ultimate “open city” that attracted mobsters and how organized crime persists today. AN AUTUMNAL GRAND CANYON

One of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon is a special place during the fall

The Grand Canyon is beautiful any time of the year, but some argue it’s at its peak during the fall. Fewer people crowd the overlooks once school starts, and temperatures drop to pleasant levels. Plus, some canyon trees sport fall colors.

FALL ON THE RIMS

Grand Canyon National Park has two entrances. While the South Rim remains open year-round, the North Rim closes October 15, before snow makes the entrance impassable. Until then, the North Rim offers the best opportunity to see quaking aspen turn golden in the park. But visitors who can’t make it there can still appreciate pops of color from Gambel oak and Fremont cottonwood at lower elevations.

Cooler temperatures at both rims make

exploring more pleasant, too. At the North Rim, high temperatures average about 70 degrees Fahrenheit in September but drop another 10 degrees by the end of October. The South Rim is warmer, with an average high in the mid-70s in September. By November, though, the average high is just above 50 degrees. Visitors will want to dress in layers since weather can change suddenly at either rim.

VIEWING THE CANYON

During the summer, the park encourages visitors to the South Rim to park and use shuttles to get to the overlooks. In the fall, when there’s less congestion, it’s easier to drive the park’s scenic routes. And because temperatures are so much cooler, fall is a great time to walk the Rim Trail. Along the way, Mather Point has one of the most

48 nonstoplife

famous views of the canyon, and Hopi Point is a park favorite for sunsets.

Fall is ideal for hiking into the canyon as well. That’s because temperatures are roughly 20 degrees hotter in the canyon than on the rim.

In other words, when it’s 80 degrees at the trailhead, it will likely be 100 degrees on the canyon floor. Bright Angel Trail is the most popular trail and gives hikers the option to turn around at the second tunnel before the descent becomes too steep.

OTHER THINGS TO DO

For second-time visitors and those staying longer, there’s more to do in the fall than view

the canyon and hike its trails. Cyclists can rent bikes through mid-October from the park’s concessionaire and pedal the park’s dedicated routes. Mule rides along the rim and into the canyon are available year-round, although reservations are required.

For a new perspective, the adventurous can fly over the canyon in a helicopter or plane, or tandem skydive with the canyon in sight. Allegiant passengers should book these adventures well in advance to ensure their spot.

DOWNTOWN MESA COMES ALIVE

This Southwest city welcomes a new city plaza, shopping and a buzzy nightlife scene to its urban core

Downtown Mesa has always been full of surprises, from its historic underground tunnels to its magnificent cultural beacon, the Mesa Arts Center — now, the city’s Main Street drag has set the stage for even more over the top entertainment.

This fall, Mesa’s nucleus will be home to the long-awaited Plaza at Mesa City Center. The two-acre community gathering space, adjacent to the shiny new Arizona State University Creative Futures Lab, features amphitheaterstyle grass seating, water features and a seasonal ice rink. The hub has plans to serve up outdoor performances, events and festivals, with light rail access across the street making it an easy option for locals and visitors.

Downtown Mesa is also home to exciting new dining and nightlife options, including the arcade and tap room from Mesa’s original brew crew, The Beer Research Institute. This renovated space in one of Mesa’s older brick buildings features an impressive collection of classic arcade games and pinball machines. Down from here, Espiritu is also serving up new spirits on Main Street. Conceptualized by the owners of Tacos Chiwas located next door, this elevated cocktail lounge features shaken and stirred concoctions, shared punch bowls and shots set on fire. Staples like the sandwich

king, Worth Takeaway, have expanded, bringing indoor dining back to life on Main Street.

Another reason to add a Downtown Mesa visit to any Greater Phoenix travel itinerary is the near dozen retail establishments that line Main Street. Vintage shopping has always been popular here, but newer retailers like Barrel and Bloom and The Boutique are attracting sidewalk surfers looking for unique fashions, housewares and collectibles. Anchoring the west end of Main Street is Jarrod’s Tea and Coffee Gallery, whose eclectic arts collective continues to impress.

With all the recent development completed, Downtown Mesa is shaping up to be one of the most energetic and exciting city centers in the Greater Phoenix metro area. Up next is Pedal Haus Brewery and Level 1 Arcade expected early next year, and the placemaking event I Love Mesa Days BBQ, Brews & Blues Classic hosted by Downtown Mesa Association next February. visitmesa.com

COBRA ARCADE BAR

This arcade for grownups features all the best arcade games, including Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Frogger and Ms. Pac-Man. But Cobra Arcade Bar is more than the mall-style arcade popularized in 80s movies. Live bands and DJs play nightly from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., and drinks like the Garbage Pail Kid, made with Effen Apple and Mad Dog 20/20, flow freely. Although the bar doesn’t serve food, it does invite food trucks to satisfy hungry gamers.

Because its space located near the convention center is small, Cobra Arcade Bar recommends coming early in the evening to avoid waiting for admission. Allegiant passengers who are more interested in the arcade games than the music may want to come during happy hour, Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., when fewer people come to play. On Tuesday, the bar hands out free tokens with drink purchases, and on Wednesday, women get free tokens. cobraarcadebar.com

TAPROOM-120

The name of this new taproom refers to the term “T120,” which was found printed on blank VHS tapes during their heyday to indicate they ran two hours (120 minutes). But that’s far from the only retro pop culture reference at Taproom-120. Taps with handles featuring old action figures like HeMan dispense premium craft beers. Adding to the ambiance, a mural showcases favorite characters from the 70s, 80s and 90s, and an onsite arcade contains popular retro games.

Allegiant passengers don’t have to be beer drinkers to enjoy Taproom-120. The bar serves wine and non-alcoholic beverages, too. As the taproom’s slogan goes, all that’s required is for patrons to “Be kind, unwind.” taproom120.com

SAND, SUN AND FUN

These Orange County beaches are a great way to enjoy a sunny day in southern California

From sandy stretches to rocky tidepools, Orange County boasts some of the state’s best beaches along its 42 miles of coast. Choosing which one to visit during a stay can be a challenge, though. The beaches combine scenic views, water fun and things to do on shore.

HUNTINGTON CITY BEACH

The city of Huntington Beach earned the nickname “Surf City, USA” in the 1950s thanks to this iconic beach, but catching a wave isn’t the only pastime here. Sunbathers spread towels on the sand, kids dodge incoming waves and volleyball players spike over tournament nets. Allegiant passengers can join in on the beach fun or rent a bicycle to pedal to the 1,850-foot Huntington Beach Pier. Either way, they should stick around until after dark when groups gather around bonfire pits and roast s’mores until the beach closes at 10 p.m. surfcityusa.com

CORONA DEL MAR STATE BEACH

If this sandy shoreline looks familiar, it’s no surprise. Corona Del Mar State Beach served as the backdrop for “Gilligan’s Island” and several Disney TV shows. Locals don’t give much thought to the beach’s glamorous past, though. They love to swim in its waters and watch the sun set over a distant Catalina Island in the evening. Offshore, surfers ride waves created by a rock jetty at the harbor’s entrance, and divers explore the depths. The beach also has firepits available on a firstcome, first-served basis. visitnewportbeach.com

VICTORIA BEACH

Beach goers will have to park on Pacific Coast Highway, follow Victoria Drive and navigate steps to this secluded beach, but it’s worth it. The staircase leads to a rocky, isolated beach in Laguna Beach. Instagrammers love capturing the castle-like

But visitors can also play in tide pools, skimboard in the waves or just appreciate the natural beauty of this semi-secret beach. Snorkeling, volleyball, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking are popular here, too. visitlagunabeach.com

DOHENY STATE BEACH

More than 2 million visitors wiggle their toes in the sands of Doheny State Beach in Dana Point every year. Like many Orange County beaches, it’s a surfer’s mecca, but Doheny also features tidepools, a 5-acre lawn for picnics, volleyball courts and campgrounds. Anglers can cast their lines into the waves while families explore the visitor center aquarium. Nearby, Salt Creek Beach has lifeguards, basketball courts and a concession stand. For those wanting to give popular watersports a try, local surf shop Infinity Surfboards rents surfboards and standup paddleboards. dohenystatebeach.org

WHERE FANTASY BECOMES REALITY

Known for bringing some of the most popular film franchises and TV shows to life with its immersive lands, rides and attractions, Universal Studios Hollywood recently debuted what just might be the cutest theme park ride ever created.

Inspired by Illumination’s blockbuster “The Secret Life of Pets” films, “The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash” is simply un-fur-gettable. Combining dozens of technologically-advanced animated figures with hyperrealistic media and projection mapping, the ride takes guests on a comical journey to not only meet some of their favorite characters from the films, but also find their own forever home. Similar to Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” ride that transforms riders into Minions, “The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash” transforms riders into adorable dogs up for adoption. Riders will even get to interact with their animated animal doppelgängers toward the beginning and end of the ride. Many of the films’ vocal

talents reprised their roles for the attraction, too, including Patton Oswalt as Max the Jack Russell terrier.

As delightful as “The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash” is, its rider queue is equally entertaining. Guests will walk through the New York City apartment building the pets live in as they approach the ride, passing by characters and familiar scenes from the

In addition to “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey,” The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood is home to the park’s first outdoor roller coaster, the family-friendly “Flight of the Hippogriff” Riders will encounter animatronics of some of their favorite characters while walking through the interactive queue for “The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash”

films. Highlights include Buddy the dachshund using a kitchen mixer to get a massage and Norman the guinea pig popping up in the air conditioning vents.

Since guests can book their ride time in advance by accessing “The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash” Virtual Line via the Universal Studios Hollywood app or by visiting the Virtual Line kiosk located adjacent to the ride, they will have plenty of time to experience many of the other thrilling attractions the theme park has to offer. Riders can come face-to-face with the 22-foot-tall Indominus rex on “Jurassic World—The Ride;” see the pink Chevrolet Corvette from Peacock’s limited series “Angelyne” as well as other famous cars and sets on the behind-thescenes Studio Tour tram ride; and soar above Hogwarts on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s signature ride, “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.”

Fall is always a great time to visit Universal Studios Hollywood, too, as there are plenty of extra thrills in store during Halloween Horror Nights. Taking place select nights Sept. 8 through Oct. 31, the separately ticketed event features scare zones, a Terror Tram, a live show and eight chilling haunted houses, including “Universal Monsters: Legends

Collide.” The all-new maze puts guests in the middle of an epic battle where Dracula, The Wolf Man and The Mummy come together for the first time in search of a powerful amulet that can break their curse. Guests can also step into the 1978 horror classic “Halloween” in the “Halloween” haunted house and come face-to-face with Michael Myers.

Regardless of when you visit, no trip to Southern California is ever complete without immersing yourself in the magic of Universal Studios Hollywood. universalstudioshollywood.com

Did you know Universal Studios Hollywood will welcome the first SUPER NINTENDO WORLD in the United States in early 2023? Park guests will enter the immersive land via an iconic Mario Bros. Warp Pipe and find its signature ride, “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge,” within Bowser’s Castle.

Riders may be able to escape the colossal Indominus rex, but they likely won’t be able to avoid getting wet on “Jurassic World—The Ride”

Now Boarding All Paw-ssengers

Allegiant’s business model is built around the idea that travel should be accessible to everyone. This philosophy is at the heart of our partnership with Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD), a Pennsylvania-based organization that breeds, raises, trains and places dogs to assist children and adults with disabilities in their day-to-day lives.

The foundation of our relationship with SSD is built upon two pillars: puppy transfers and airport training.

In order to best guarantee a successful partnership between pooch and person, it is of utmost importance service animals in training (aka adorable puppies) receive the highest quality instruction possible –sometimes involving travel to a different state. This is where Allegiant steps in. The airline donates flights for the animal and an SSD representative. Often, the representative will be dropping off a puppy and flying home with a graduate of the training program. Funds that might have been spent on airfare can be re-directed to

another area of need within the nonprofit. The flights serve a dual purpose: travel for the puppy and training.

Just as an airport can present unique challengers for travelers, it is a new and hardto-replicate environment for service animals. This is why we work diligently with our operations team to identify an opportunity for SSD handlers to bring the dogs to the airport for a trial run. The service animals practice going through TSA, boarding the aircraft and nestling under the airplane seat in front of them while keeping a close eye on their human companion.

After graduation, the dogs, equipped with over 40 cues and skills, are ready to be matched with their person.

Our partnership with SSD makes a lasting impact in the lives of so many people who are now confident to travel by air.

Recognizing Excellence

The airline industry can often be a world of numbers. Flight numbers, miles, airspeed, altitude… all require impeccable precision and dedication. Beyond the seriousness of their day-to-day roles however, Allegiant Team Members’ passion for the numbers can translate into memorable milestones and achievements. Read on for highlights from Team Members across our network.

Emmy Bartling

Manager of Pricing and Revenue (HQ)

Emmy Bartling’s days are centered around numbers, of course, but she also tracks how many miles she flies with one of the great perks of working at Allegiant — our flight benefits.

“During my four years with Allegiant, I have personally flown 35,244 miles, 19,551 miles on G4 routes, and I have been able to treat friends and family to an additional 115,985 miles at free or discounted fares. Combined, we’ve flown over 135k miles — enough to circle the earth more than five times!”

“My flight benefits allow me to share the gift of travel with the people I care about. My parents fly for free, and it is rewarding to see my flight benefits get them to all of the great Allegiant destinations.”

Cory Petersman Flight Attendant (CVG)

Every customer really does count. In his 3.5 years with Allegiant, Cory Petersman has celebrated the 100,000 and 200,000 milestones of passengers flown!

“The most exciting part about being a flight attendant, aside from our amazing team and customers, is that whenever I am not working, I have the freedom and flight benefits to go anywhere I please, either by myself, with my parents, or with my travel companion.”

Eli Dunlap

Customer Service Ops Agent (LEX)

When Eli Dunlap started counting how many flights he worked, he would have never guessed the serendipitous moments.

“When I counted my 276th flight, plane number 276 pulled in. Then three flights later, number 279, Aircraft 279 pulled in!”

“I’ve been working at the Lexington airport for less than a year and just hit the 500 flight mark. I track my flights worked by taking a photo of each one. Through winter storms and summer heat, each day is different, and I love being around airplanes — it’s my favorite part of the job!”

TRAVELER INFORMATION

SAFETY FIRST

Customer safety is Allegiant®’s first concern. Please be advised that interference with the duties of crew members, including flight attendants, is a violation of federal laws. Our crews are thoroughly trained in all safety procedures. To ensure your own safety, we hope you take a moment to review the safety information card located in the seat pocket in front of you. Be aware of the following:

• Location of the nearest emergency exit

• Location of your emergency oxygen mask, if needed

• Correct procedure for exiting the cabin in an emergency

SEAT BELTS

Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards.

CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS

Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT" from the manufacturer. Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt.

PHOTOS & VIDEOS ONBOARD

The use of small cameras or mobile devices for photography and video is permitted onboard provided you keep the purpose of your photography and video to capturing personal events. Photographing or recording other customers or airline personnel without their express consent is prohibited. Airline personnel reserve the right to prohibit photos and videos onboard the aircraft if it becomes a disturbance to them or other passengers.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Allegiant is forbidden to serve alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears to be intoxicated or who has not yet reached the age of 21. It is a violation of federal regulations to drink alcoholic beverages during a flight unless they have been served by Allegiant personnel.

SMOKING

Smoking, the use of other tobacco products, e-cigarettes and other similar smoking devices are not permitted on any Allegiant flight. Federal law imposes fines of $1,000 for smoking and up to $2,000 for any attempt to disable an aircraft smoke detector.
