SUDBURY WOLVES MEDIA / SCOUTING NOTES
Sunday, November 9th, 2025 | Sudbury Wolves vs Peterborough Petes
Today, the Wolves are set to take on the Peterborough Petes in a matinee matchup, marking the second meeting between the two teams this season, and the second (and final) at the Sudbury Community Arena. In their first matchup, the Wolves dominated with a blowout 8-2 victory. The Petes enter the Den on a five-game winning streak, eager to even the score with Sudbury. The Wolves enter the matchup sitting 5th in the Central Division with a record of 4-13-1-0, including a 3-3-1-0 record at home, and a 1-10-0-0 record on the road. The Petes are currently positioned 3rd in the East Division with an 8-7-1-1 record. At home, the Colts have a 6-2-0-1 record with a road record of 2-5-1-0.
This season’s Peterborough Petes roster features a youthful lineup, making the stability and experience of overage forward Matthew Soto all the more valuable. Now in his fifth season in the OHL and first with the Petes, Soto has established himself as a reliable offensive contributor. Through 17 games, Soto has recorded 15 points (seven goals, eight assists), placing him second in team scoring. The highlight of his season came on October 16th, when Soto recorded a career-high five-point game (3G, 2A) in a dominant 7-3 win over the Oshawa Generals. Moving forward, Soto’s offensive consistency will be key as this young Petes team looks to maintain a playoff position.
Entering a season with several graduates on the Wolves' blueline, 2008-born Luca Blonda has been able to provide a welcome spark from the back end. Known for his offensive play, Blonda has tallied eight assists through 18 games this season, leading all Wolves defencemen in scoring. Blonda’s offensive contributions have picked up as of late, with five assists in his last six games, including a career -high three assists on November 1st against Owen Sound. As the season progresses, Blonda’s offensive capabilities on the Wolves' blueline will be key in supporting the team and helping Sudbury climb in the standings.

An 8-2 Sudbury Wolves triumph over the Peterborough Petes back on October 26th was the latest continuation of a very solid run for the local juniors opposite their friends from the Lakelands of Ontario. The nickel city lads have captured four of the last six season series against the Petes and have not lost more than two games of their annual four game set since back in 2017-2018.
This was definitely not the case early on. Peterborough welcomed the Wolves to the OHL in 1972-1973 (in what was then Ontario Major Junior “A” hockey), besting the Sudbury crew four times and playing to a pair of ties in the remaining two clashes. In fact, it wasn’t until December 20th (1973) that the relative newcomers to the party first tasted victory against the Petes, earning a road win by the closest of margins (6-5).
A little over a year ago, the teams combined for the lowest every combined score in a Sudbury –Peterborough match-up (and the lowest score possible, to be honest) as a first period goal by Chase Coughlan and a 40-save performance from Finn Marshall lifted the visitors to a 1-0 conquest.
GAME NIGHT & PROMOTIONS
Sunday’s game is a Remembrance Day game, where the Wolves will honour those who serve and those who have served with a pre-game ceremony. Veterans are encouraged to visit the box office on gameday, where they’ll receive a $5 discount on tickets with military ID proof. Sunday’s game is proudly sponsored by Sudbury.com, who continuously have shown their support of the Wolves and support of our armed forces.
Sunday’s game is also a Sensory Friendly Game. Lowered sound levels, consistent lighting, and no goal horn will be prevalent throughout the game. Fans will also be offered a quiet room which will be located in Dressing Room #4 if needed throughout the game.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following today’s matchup against the Petes, the Wolves will remain on home ice for another four games as their homestand continues. The action picks up again next weekend with back-to-back contests against cross-border opponents. On Friday, November 14, the Wolves will host the Erie Otters at 7:05 pm., followed by a Saturday night showdown on November 15 against the Saginaw Spirit with puck drop also set for 7:05 pm. Tickets for all Wolves home games are available online at mpv.tickets.com or in person at the Sudbury Arena Box Office.
