Renaissance Men

> When informed by Orlando Style staff members that he had been nominated as a “Renaissance Man”, Winter Park attorney Travis Hollifield said “Well, I must be over 400 years old since the Renaissance ended around 1600.” Although Hollifield has not achieved a multi-century age, this Central Florida native has accomplished much by excelling in several different fields. After graduating from Winter Park High School, Hollifield embarked on a fiveyear career in the broadcasting business as an on-air personality known as Travis McKay. His big break came in 1986 when he was hired by Z100 -- the most listened to Top 40 radio station in New York City -- where he worked on the “The Z Morning Zoo” program. Hollifield later returned to Orlando and hosted the high energy evening slot at the old BJ-105 (now Mix 105.1). Despite his success in radio, Hollifield craved more intellectual challenges so he enrolled at UCF, graduated in 1991, and later obtained his law degree at Nova Southeastern University.

Hollifield ultimately founded Hollifield Legal Centre which focuses on working women’s legal rights including FMLA, sexual harassment, and pregnancy discrimination claims. “When I began practicing it was evident that many employment laws either exclusively or disproportionately affected women so I decided to focus my professional efforts on helping women with workplace legal issues.”

Hollifield also litigates intellectual property matters including copyright, trademark, and patent infringement cases. “It’s a different kind of practice than employment law,” says Hollifield. “I advise clients who need to decide whether to initiate litigation or defend claims brought against them.” In addition, Hollifield has maintained a busy mediation practice since becoming a Florida Supreme Court certified Circuit Civil Mediator. “Mediation is altogether different than litigating as an advocate,” Hollifield noted. “As a mediator, I act as a neutral and help parties make rational decisions regarding whether to settle their claims before trial.” If that wasn’t enough, Hollifield is also an adjunct law professor at Barry University’s law school in Orlando where he has taught intellectual property and entertainment law in recent years. With his rare free time, Hollifield enjoys attending concerts and basketball games with his wife Audra who is the Vice President of Human Resources and Administrative Services for the Orlando Magic. Though he may never achieve the age of 400, Travis Hollifield’s accomplishments are more than enough for us to name him as a “Renaissance Man” of Central Florida.<
