Hi Guys! It feels like forever since I last wrote my editor's note, and as we approach my favourite season and fully embrace spring, I can't help but feel excited about what lies ahead.

The end of last year was our biggest yet as we carefully curated our first awards ceremony—an evening filled with glitz and plenty of glamour. Seeing so many people come together to celebrate all that is excellent in Wales was incredible. Huge congratulations to all our winners and nominees! You can find all the pictures and winners inside.

Cardiff is seriously heating up this year with some amazing music acts visiting our city. From Kendrick Lamar and SZA to the iconic Oasis, we can't forget the coolest "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," Will Smith. I'm starting to feel a bit nostalgic as I remember those "Fresh Prince" days, recalling every last lyric from the intro. The legendary Stevie Wonder is also heading to Cardiff—what could be more iconic than that? Find all the details on page 25.

We welcome you then to our 26th edition. It's filled with everything you love, including a fabulous interiors section. Are you feeling motivated? Available in the UK in five model grades with a choice of PHEV petrol or six-cylinder diesel engine.

Revealed in 2024, the all-new Mazda CX-80 is the latest model from Mazda’s Large Product Group, which includes the Mazda CX-60 and North American market CX-70 and CX-90 SUVs. All models share the same longitudinal front-engine rear-wheel drive mechanical layout.

The all-new Mazda CX-80 is the new flagship of the Mazda line-up in Europe, sitting above the CX-60 in Mazda’s award-winning SUV range. Featuring three-row seating it’s the most spacious SUV ever offered by Mazda in Europe and with its highquality cabin, technically advanced drivetrains and elegant design is created to challenge established premium brands in the European market.

Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 129kW electric motor and a 17.8 kWh high-capacity battery – or Mazda’s advanced in-line six-cylinder 254ps 3.3-litre e-Skyactiv D diesel engine. Across both powertrain options, the Mazda CX-80 is exclusively matched to allwheel drive.

Dimensionally, the all-new Mazda CX-80 sees the wheelbase grow by 250mm compared to the CX-60 to deliver the space needed for a practical three-row interior. Furthermore, to ensure passenger comfort, the CX-80 is 26mm taller than the CX-60. However, with an identical width to the CX-60, the CX-80 retains the familiar styling and nose on profile of its smaller sibling.

Offered in the UK across five highly specified grades: Exclusive-Line, Homura, Takumi, Homura Plus and

Takumi Plus there’s also option packs to allow customers to tailor their seat layouts and equipment. With maximum customer choice in mind, in the UK it will be offered with a choice of three middle row configurations: a three-person bench seat, two captain’s seats with a walk-through space or two captain’s seats with a fixed centre console. The seven-seat layout with the middle row-bench will be standard and is expected to be the biggest seller in the UK, while the two different six seat layout configurations will be optional.

Crucially, thanks to the CX-80’s increased wheelbase, shoulder room, headroom, hip point spacing and front to second row couple distance measurements have all increased compared to the CX-60. While, new to Mazda highlights include Alexa* in-car voice control of music, air-conditioning, navigation and third-party apps.

Viewed from the front the all-new Mazda CX-80 is visually matched to its CX-60 sibling but it’s in profile where the expression of elegance has been refined by taking full advantage of the CX-80’s increased length to create an imposing and cohesive design. The extended side windows feature thicker surrounds that are straighter at the D Pillar to emphasise the presence of the thirdrow of seating, while the seamlessly integrated roof rails further highlight the length of the CX-80’s cabin.

The all-new Mazda CX-80 also sees the introduction of two new Mazda paint colours to the UK market:

Artisan Red and Melting Copper. Like the ever-popular Soul Red Crystal colour, Artisan Red is another colour created with Mazda’s Takuminuri painting technology. Well suited to a large vehicle, Artisan Red evokes even deeper refinement than Soul Red Crystal with is darker and deeper shade of red, while Melting Copper suggests light sandblasting to the surface of copper than has been melted and hardened again. In all, the Mazda CX-80 will be offered in nine body colours: Jet Black, Deep Crystal Blue, Platinum Quartz, Arctic White, Rhodium White, Machine Grey, Soul Red Crystal, Artisan Red and Melting Copper.

American singer, songwriter, musician, and producer Stevie Wonder is one of the most celebrated and prominent figures in popular music who, at the age of 12, was the youngest recording artist to have achieved a #1 single with "Fingertips Part 2", and subsequently the first to simultaneously reach #1 on Billboard's Hot 100, R&B Singles and Album Charts.

He has amassed 49 Top Forty singles, 32 #1 singles, and over 100 million units worldwide.

Stevie has won 25 Grammy Awards, the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Stevie's iconic album, Songs In The Key of Life, if People with Disabilities, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Children's Diabetes Foundation and the American Association of People with Disabilities.

In 1983, Stevie spearheaded the realisation of "Martin Luther King Day" as a national holiday and his song "Happy Birthday" became the rallying song for the movement. His participation in the 1985 "We Are The World" fundraiser for hunger in Africa is a music industry milestone. His involvement in ending apartheid in South Africa is legendary.

Sugababes announce their biggest UK tour for Spring 2025. With six-number-one singles and millions of global sales, the iconic trio - Siobhan Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan are back and bigger than ever, continuing their triumphant comeback with their UK 2025 tour, the biggest of their career, heading to Cardiff's Utilita Arena on the April 14th.

Since reuniting in 2019, the original lineup has solidified their place in British pop history as one of the most successful and influential vocal groups of the 2000s and has been warmly welcomed back. Since their return, they have shut down their Glastonbury stage twice due to demand, sold out The O2, and performed to recordbreaking crowds at major festivals across Europe.

The British folk-rock band released their new album, RUSHMERE, on March 28th. They are currently out on a global club tour, heading to Cardiff on December 8th at the Utilita Arena.

GRAMMY- Award-winning artist, actor and multifaceted entertainer Will Smith announced his upcoming "Based on a True Story" Summer Tour heading to Cardiff's Bute Park on August 25th

The "Based on a True Story" Tour announcement comes on the heels of Will Smith's first full-length album in 20 years, Based on a True Story, which is set for release March 28th. These live shows will see him performing songs from the new album along with his classic hits including "Jiggy Wit It," "Miami," "Summertime" and more. The 14-track album will feature a variety of collaborators including DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teyana Talor, & Jac Ross.

Royvon Dog Training & Hotels was started 65 years ago in Merthyr Tydfil. Owner Darren James grew up there with the family boarding business, surrounded by the dogs and getting involved in training from a young age. Nowadays, Royvon is owned by Darren and his wife Hannah, and the original site is in Merthyr, offering

comfortable boarding options alongside qualified dog training. Training includes course blocks and their signature residential training, helping dogs over an intensive three-week period with everything from recall and basic skills to fear and anxiety reactions that can be lifechanging.

All training at Royvon uses modern, force-free positive reinforcement techniques backed by the latest behavioural science. Dogs are encouraged to display the desired behaviours via praise, treats, and the enriching type of play that dogs find irresistible, whatever their age, personality, or breed.

Last year, Royvon took the central concept of the power of play and opened innovative 'Royvon Playhouse' in Bridgend.

Learning what makes each dog focus and learn is what Royvon does best. They use this drive to help dogs overcome distractions in all kinds of environments so that both dog and owner are confident about spending more time together in more places.

In 2024, Royvon took the central concept of the power of play and extended their reach in Wales with the introduction of 'Royvon Playhouse' in Bridgend. "Over the years, we have seen dogs become increasingly part of the family, and owners want more for their dog while they are away." says Darren, "They don't just want secure boarding; they want their dog to have as much fun on holiday as they are! They want to know their dog is enjoying their stay, being stimulated, making friends and receiving real love and attention."

The difference at Royvon Playhouse is in the name. Alongside safe, cosy sleep

spaces for the night, there is an emphasis on play during the day, with dogs able to choose whether to be in one of the large indoor paddocks or outside in the large play areas. Both have equipment, toys, and staff to play with and other friendly dogs to run, sniff, and explore with. There is a sensory garden planted to celebrate 65 years of Royvon, as well as an exclusive indoor scent space option set up for each dog that visits – encouraging dogs to use their noses for an experience that gives them a brain workout and makes them feel great. The scent space even has webcam coverage so you can see what your dog is up to, wherever you are in the world! Q&A with Dr Anne Alison

Q. What inspired you to establish Vale Wellness?

A. The idea of having a clinic that provides all-encompassing, holistic healthcare has been a dream of mine for the past ten years. I think the idea stemmed from my 20-year experience as an NHS GP, where I noticed that many people don’t look after themselves, and I saw firsthand how making small lifestyle changes can have a massive impact on patients’ personal health.

Q. Vale Wellness has grown rapidly since its launch. What do you attribute this success to?

A. We’ve created a space where patients feel heard, supported, and empowered to take control of their own health, and having rapid access to care is a big thing for many people. I think communication is vital, but it’s also about building trust.

Patients know we genuinely care about them, and seeing the same familiar faces at each visit helps build a strong rapport.

Q. What types of health and wellness challenges do your patients commonly face, and how do you address them?

A. Our patients come to us with a wide variety of challenges, from managing chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure to navigating significant life stages such as menopause or perimenopause. Many also seek support for mental health concerns, including stress, anxiety, and burnout, or come to us with skin health issues or for an actionable plan to improve their overall health.

Our team develop bespoke care plans, drawing on our diverse expertise. For instance, a patient with chronic fatigue might receive support from a GP, work with a nutritionist for dietary advice, and see a psychologist. Sometimes, just having space

Q. How do you integrate traditional medicine with wellness approaches in Vale Wellness?

A. Everything we do is evidencebased and medically led, but we also offer complementary therapies that can enhance traditional medicine, like lifestyle medicine, acupuncture, reflexology, and breathwork. Many of these therapies are rooted in holistic traditions practiced across cultures for thousands of years and really

complement modern medicine, which is constantly evolving.

Q. It’s clear that preventative healthcare is a key focus at Vale Wellness. Why is this so important to you, and what preventative services do you offer?

A. Preventative healthcare is incredibly important to me, and it became even more personal after I was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago. I asked myself “Why me?” and I needed to know what I could do to reduce my risk of recurrence. I started on a huge research journey that led me into integrative and preventative lifestyle medicine, and I

learned how genetic factors, high blood sugar, cholesterol levels, obesity, and low physical activity contribute to chronic inflammation, which can increase the risk of conditions like cardiovascular disease, dementia, diabetes, and cancer. I’ve taken this research and brought the necessary testing and support in-house for early detection and to help our patients protect themselves. We offer extensive blood and genetic testing, continuous glucose monitoring, weight loss clinics, and access to specialists who understand the results and can help patients develop sensible, practical plans to improve their health.

As a busy working mom, I often find myself constantly on the go, glued to my phone, and rushing from one meeting to the next. London is one of my favourite cities; its vibrant energy and diverse cultures are truly captivating. It's only an hour and a half from Cardiff on the train. I lived in London for most of my twenties, and it holds a very special place in my heart.

Finding the best hotel for your stay can sometimes be challenging. You want a place that feels personal, homely, and luxurious. During a lastminute weekend getaway, I had the pleasure of staying at the Royal Lancaster. Conveniently located just a stone's throw from Paddington Station and surrounded by the trendy Lancaster Gate, the Royal Lancaster is highly accessible to travellers heading from Cardiff.

I was welcomed by friendly staff who provided a much-needed refreshing cup of coffee. There's also a charming coffee spot near the reception area, offering sweet treats and pastries, which added to the overall inviting atmosphere.

The hotel, while very grand, has an intimate feel. What truly sets it apart are the incredible views. My suite, which overlooked Hyde Park, made me feel as though I was literally in the clouds, and the serenity was highly relaxing. The suite itself was opulent and chic, featuring a stunning bathroom and all the amenities one could hope for in a five-star hotel. The bedroom, with its incredibly comfortable bed, was warm and cosy.

While guests have plenty of dining options in the surrounding area, Nipa Thai stands out as a hidden gem in this part of London. Named after the Thai owner's wife, the restaurant boasts an entirely authentic experience, thanks to its all-female kitchen brigade. As a Thai food enthusiast, I can confidently say that this is one

of the best I've ever tasted; each dish was absolutely delicious. The Hyde Lobby Bar is also an excellent choice for enjoying much-needed cocktails on the weekend and staying open late, which is a wonderful bonus.

Other notable features include a 24-hour gym equipped with Technogym treadmills, a dedicated weights section, and cross trainers. While there is no spa on-site, in-room spa treatments can be arranged. Additionally, the hotel has installed beehives on its roof, and the honey harvested from the bees is used in the hotel's breakfasts, which adds to its unique offerings.

My verdict? It was a luxurious stay with outstanding customer service and a genuine sense of warmth and care. You really must experience it for yourself.

My life in food has been varied, exciting, at times demanding, but always very rewarding. Spanning a career of more than 40 years, I have had the pleasure of working with some of the top names in the business, including Paul Hollywood, Matt Tebbutt and Jay Rayner to name but a few.

I have cooked for some amazing people around the world, running kitchens in grand chateaus, and in beautiful secluded locations, where apart from kitchen work, life was extremely quiet and chilled.

I was brought up on good food, nothing fancy, just home cooked simple dishes. We grew a lot of our own food, especially when we moved to a farm on Caerphilly mountain. One of the first things we did was to establish a fruit and vegetable garden. Looking back, it was idyllic, but as a child it was something I took for granted.

COOKING & TRAVEL

Being the eldest, I would help my mum with preserving the annual glut of berries turning them into jams, coulis, jellies and liqueurs. Some vegetables would be turned into pickles and chutneys, and the freezer packed full with goodies that would serve us well throughout the dreary months of winter.

At school I did O Level Domestic Science, it was truly brilliant! We learned how to bake bread, cakes and biscuits; prepared and cooked whole fish, made sauces, prepared and cooked different cuts of meat including kidneys, liver and even heart! Many trainee chefs these days would not get such a good grounding.

At this time I started collecting a cookery magazine called “Supercook” and treated my parents to a special supper once a week. My enthusiasm was encouraged, and soon enough I was trying my hand at recipes from my Mum’s “Cordon Bleu” magazines. These were far more involved and at times tricky, but I had a keen determination to achieve success on a plate.

Fast forward 12 years when I embarked on a culinary adventure that would change my life. I had just landed a job in the South of France, working privately, and had to find my feet fast. I had flown out to Nice at very short notice to take the helm in the kitchen to provide all the food requirements for Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sarah Brightman, their family, friends and guests.

As with any location job, you have to find your bearings quickly and establish who are the best suppliers of produce, where they are, and get to know them. In my experience, good producers will always look after you. They can share information on how to prepare and store ingredients, and even part with a family recipe or two. I was like a sponge soaking up all this up, it was a valuable part of my education, which continues this day.

My first night in St Jean CapFerrat was spent on the quay side at a little local restaurant. I was with Andrew’s chauffeur Bill, a wonderful character who gave me the background of everything I needed to know for my job. As I feasted hungrily on a plate of delicious local anchovies dressed with lemon and olive oil, we planned a shopping trip for the next day so I could get the kitchen set up ready for the busy schedule ahead.

Very early the next morning we were off to the wonderful market at Beaulieu Sur Mer. The sun was only just up, but I was wide awake and my head was full of ideas and recipes as I encountered the aromas of the local produce there. Sun ripened juicy soft berries, fragrant herbs, jammy tomatoes, fresh baked bread, beautiful fish gleaming in the sultry sunshine. I remember feeling really frustrated that I couldn’t express in French, my amazement and wonder at all of this beautiful food. That had to change, especially if I was going to make friends with those producers!

A lot changed in my life there in St Jean, my French improved greatly for a start, but most of all it was where I honed my cooking skills, inspired by the local, seasonal ingredients that were cooked simply, but served to entice.

That ethos had always been there as a result of my younger years because of my inherent knowledge and food heritage, the seasonality of home grown and foraged ingredients, and simple cooking. It all came together there in France, and I have never looked back. Would I consider serving a strawberry in January these days- Jamais!!! (Never)

COOKING & TRAVEL

I could share so many recipes with you, but I think this is a good place to start. A bowl of hearty soup with its roots in so many cuisines starting with a simple stock, then adding the some flavours from Greece to give a delicious and wholesome one pot wonder that can be enjoyed with a chunk of crusty bread. Seasonal ingredients, cooked simply!

Avgolemono Soup

For the stock:

• 2 tbsp olive oil

• 1 small chicken, jointed, plus the carcass, or 900g chicken wings or

• thighs (bone in, skin on)

• 1 large carrot, trimmed and roughly chopped

• 1 medium onion, peeled and roughly chopped

• 1 medium tomato (optional)

• 1 tsp black peppercorns

• For the soup:

• 1 plump garlic clove, peeled (optional)

• 1 sprig fresh thyme (optional)

• To finish:

• 120g rice, preferably short grain or orzo

• 1 carrot, trimmed and diced

• 2 baby leeks, or 1 slender leek, trimmed and sliced

• 2 medium egg yolks

• 2 lemons, preferably unwaxed

• 1 tablespoon chopped Dill, to serve, or use parsley

What you do

1. Make the stock: put the oil in a large, wide pan on a medium-high heat and fry the chicken pieces until golden all over – do this in batches, if necessary – and transfer to a plate.

2. Throw the garlic and thyme, if using, into the hot pan, fry for 30 seconds, then return all the chicken to the pan and add the chopped carrot and onion, the whole tomato and the peppercorns.

3. Cover with two and a quarter litres of water and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat, partially cover the pan and leave to simmer gently for about an hour, until the chicken is cooked through. Lift the chicken out of the pan, leave it to cool, then strip the meat if you’re using it in the soup (otherwise, save the poached chicken for another use).

4. Blitz the soup until the solids are processed.

5. Add the rice/orzo and diced carrot to the hot stock, bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about five minutes. Add the sliced leek and simmer for another eight minutes, until the rice and vegetables are cooked. Add the chicken.

6. Put the yolks in a small bowl, add the lemon zest and juice, mix together. Remove the soup from the heat, and stir in the egg mixture. Pop back onto the lowest heat for about five minutes, until the soup thickens slightly, then season to taste, adding more lemon juice, if needed. Divide the soup between bowls, scatter with a little chopped dill/parsley.

We stepped inside the beautifully restored Cardi home of @ouredwardian, where a full basement excavation and complete house renovation has been thoughtfully designed with both style and function in mind. Led by Stephanie from Flair Interiors, a specialist in period property design, the focus of this transformation has been the restoration and sourcing of original features, respecting and enhancing the architectural character of the home and seamlessly blending this with contemporary elegance.

The project has transformed this traditional family home, creating a master bedroom loft space with chic walk in wardrobe and ensuite, a basement cinema room and stylish bar alongside picturesque garden rooms and wellness areas for the family to unwind. The attention to detail is evident throughout the home, featuring neutral colour palettes, rich oak flooring, elaborate plaster mouldings, classic furniture pieces and luxurious fabrics resulting in a muted, ornate backdrop that exudes timeless sophistication and combines modern opulence.

I really want to start by asking you: Your passion for hosting events is well known. Where does this love stem from, and how do your travels and the events you attend inspire your gatherings?

I find inspiration by exploring various events. I enjoy seeing the different flower arrangements and table setups. I love bringing people together to meet and have fun.

Villa Las Brisas embodies timeless glamour. How did you incorporate this elegance into its design?

I like cosiness, and I think it is important to create a villa that is timeless, cosy, glam, and sophisticated.

Which amenities, like the spa or fitness room, enhance the overall guest experience the most?

I think the nicest thing is the view of the house. Of course, the spa is good; it is amazing to have a spa and a gym, but I think the view is breathtaking.

What advice would you give to homeowners looking to create a luxurious yet affordable functional space in a coastal setting?

Paying attention to various details is essential, especially for dining. When guests rent the house, they should have different dishes, cutlery, and napkins for each meal. I like the staff to change everything daily. Additionally, I think it's essential to have attractive décor, nice beds, comfortable pillows, and fresh, clean sheets and towels that are always white and new.

How would you describe St. Tropez to someone who has never visited before?

I love the atmosphere in St Tropez. You can go to the beach, enjoy parties, visit nightclubs, and engage in many activities in this small village. Whether you want to party, relax, hike, or swim, plenty of options are available.

On Thursday, December 12th, our inaugural Style of the City Awards, celebrating Welsh excellence in our capital, was launched at the Coal Exchange Hotel. The evening was filled with glitz and glamour as we showcased some incredible businesses. The night was truly spectacular, from the stunning floral table displays curated by Wild n Fabulous Flowers to the excitement of the red carpet hosted by Venus Firetrap.

The evening, hosted by BBC Morning Live presenter Justine Jones, celebrated Welsh excellence in all its glory. Each award was designed by Clogau Jewellery, and the categories were judged by a selection of Welsh celebrities, each of whom has achieved notable success in their own fields, which made the night feel particularly special.

Britain's Got Talent star Travis George opened the evening, captivating guests with his incredible vocals.

To add extra sparkle to the event, Spotlight Ballet performers wowed us with a stunning dance routine and Welsh star of The Voice, Bethzienna, had everyone dancing into the night with her incredible performance.
