GROWING UP ON North Stradbroke Island, with her father a professional surfer and mother a dedicated beach babe, Ashton Smith has lived her life by what the waves are doing. “One of my earliest memories is of my sister and I in matching bikinis and never wanting to take them off, so even back then a bikini was a very important part of my life,” she says. Despite swimwear becoming a saturated market recently, Ashton struggled to find a basic black bikini – and so, Farron Swim was born. With a name that plays on ‘fahrenheit’ (when it’s hot you swim, right?), Ashton

says her designs fill a gap in the market for “basics in prints and styles that transcend trends, in high quality fabrics and cuts that mould and frame the body.” Trawling blogs and sketching for inspiration, Ashton keeps as much of her business on the island as possible, from the design of her pieces, to the website and logos, and shoots her campaigns locally. With a new SS15 collection dropping in October, Ashton says to watch this space for a collection with more grown up silhouettes which build on her aesthetic of basics.

Meet Ashton: the babe behind the bikinis Your off duty style is… Bassike tees, Ksubi denim, Isabel Marant shoes or Havianas. When you’re not working we’ll find you… Surfing as much as possible! Straight or curls? Depends on the day, but my hair usually decides itself. Early mornings or late nights? An early morning walk or surf sets a clear headspace.
