SPRINGHILL HOSPICE
rochdale News & events
Fundraising events for 2015 are already off to a sensational start with the Hospice to Hospice Walk, Go Green and the Traditional Country Fete raising much needed funds. The Hospice to Hospice Walk again broke attendance records, with over 300 Springhill strollers walking the 7.25 miles circular route, calling in at Dr Kershaw's Hospice in Oldham. But the summer is far from over and with a couple more events before the nights get darker, Springhill are making sure that the whole community can join in the fundraising, with two lovely Hospice based events.
SATURDAY 25TH JULY will see the Hospice grounds transformed into a picture perfect picnic for the SUMMER SERENADE. Bring along a picnic, a blanket and some friends; sit back, relax and listen to the beautiful sounds of the Greater Manchester Police Male Voice Choir, Rochdale's Community Band and compere Ian Jenkins. Call Fundraising for your ticket 01706 641790. £7.50 each including a glass of wine. ON SUNDAY 9TH AUGUST, 11am-3 pm (entrance fee £3.00), Head gardener Nick Dent will be showing people around the Hospice’s Gold Award Winning Gardens, including their now well established vegetable garden, for the OPEN GARDEN DAY. There will be a floral demonstration from Flower and the Glory, hanging basket demonstration by Newbank Garden Centre and stalls selling home made jams and pickles, Hospice grown plants and vegetable patch produce. It's an excellent opportunity to have a look around the oasis of calm created by Nick and the amazing volunteer gardeners. Whatever the season, another of Springhill's fundraising ventures is going from strength to strength; THE SPRINGHILL TEA ROOMS AND GIFT SHOP.
Retail Initiative 2015", commented Sarah Ford, Income Services Manager.
Such is the popularity of the tea rooms that more dining space has been created by converting a room at the side of the property
and also adding picnic benches with parasols outside, allowing people to dine inside and out. GENEROUS DONATION FROM THE RESIDENTS OF YEW COURT A recent visit to Yew Court at Hamer by Springy, the Springhill Hospice Mascot and Trustee Ken Davies resulted in a wonderful surprise donation of £2000 being presented to the Hospice by members of the Residents Association. The monies had been collected by the residents over a period of time, following various fundraising events and outings organised by their Social Committee. Anne Peacock, Social Secretary and Yvonne Kowalczuk, warden at Yew Court explained, “The residents have enjoyed very much their regular social events while at the same time raising monies for a very worthy local cause, Springhill Hospice”. Trustee Ken Davies expressed his pleasure on receiving the excellent donation from Yew Court and how proud the residents should be on their remarkable achievement.
"We're overwhelmed by the response we've had since opening the tea rooms. At this year's Hospice UK Fundraising Awards, our Tea Rooms were honoured with an award for the Most Inventive SPRINGHILL HOSPICE, BROAD LANE, ROCHDALE, OL16 4PZ.
