Walmart Grant to Benefit Accelerated Reading Program Our school was recently informed by the Walmart Foundation and Facility #43 that we were selected to receive a grant through the Local Community Contribution/ Hunger Outreach Grant Program in the amount of $500.00. Funds will be used towards licensing fees for our Accelerated Reading Program implemented

last year by Mrs. Mohler, librarian. Accelerated Reader is a computerbased reading program that provides remediation and academic enrichment activities designed to raise student achievement in

grades K12. Students read a book and then take the computer generated comprehension test. Books are leveled allowing students to read with success and with the appropriate amount of challenge. St. Xavier School appreciates Walmart’s generosity and confidence in our students.

Help Bail Mr. Weber Out of Jail John Weber, St. Xavier Parish Financial Manager, will be “going to jail” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on October 27. He would appreciate your support in bailing him out and benefitting a great cause. Suggested donations of $25 would be greatly appreciated although any amount is welcome. Donations raised through this event can go a long way to help the MDA- $300 supports three group sessions, $500 provides one year of repairs of durable medical equipment, $800 sends one child to MDA summer camp and $1200 funds six initial diagnostic visits. Checks can be made payable to MDA and dropped off at the Parish Office across the parking lot from the school anytime before October 27. Mr. Weber will take them with him to jail. For more information, contact him at the parish office at 78238-2998.

October Birthday time! ST. XAVIER SCHOOL BIRTHDAY BOOK PROGRAM Dear Parents, The St. Xavier School Library Birthday Book Program is one in which you can celebrate your child’s birthday in a special way and help our library collection continue to grow. For a donation of $5 your child may select a new book from the Birthday Box located in the library. The inside front cover of the book will have his or her name and birthdate inscribed on a bookplate. The birthday child also has the honor of being the first to check out the new book. Children have a special appreciation for the books they select to add to our library shelves. They enjoy sharing them with their classmates and teachers. These books will remain throughout all their years at St. Xavier School. This is a wonderful way to commemorate a very special occasion and to help our library maintain a high-quality collection. Students or parents wishing to purchase a book may bring five dollars, cash or check to Mrs.Mohler, librarian. Your generosity will benefit all of our students. Thank you for your participation and support of our school library. Sincerely,

Rosemary Kane Administrator of Development & Accreditation

Father Al Brungardt Celebrates 40 Years in the Priesthood On Sunday, October 9th, St. Xavier Parish held a special reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Junction City. The purpose of the event was to help Father Al Brungardt celebrate 40 years in the Priesthood, having been ordained in June of 1971. Over one hundred Parishioners, family and friends showed up to help Father Al celebrate and to show him their love and appreciation for his involvement in their lives. As beloved pastor Father Al has touched the lives of countless individuals. Attendees brought in a wide selection of Father Al’s favorite snack foods and cakes were made especially for him. It was a wonderful event with a short program included giving folks an opportunity to stand p and share a special memory with Father Al. St. Xavier is truly blessed to have Father Al and we collectively thank him for everything he does. Thank you, Father Al!

In this game anyone has an opportunity to “Guess Who’’ the mystery person is. In addition, if anyone can guess the right answer, he/she will be able to claim a prize. For more information just ask Mrs. Fowler. Place your guesses in the box that is located in the computer lab. One winner will be selected at the end of every month.
