2012 CYO Convention March 31-April 1 eight St. Xavier students attended the Catholic Youth Organization convention or CYO. Leaving the school parking lot at 8:30 a.m., the teens traveled to Salina to join 500+ students in a retreat themed “Searching for Christ.” This retreat lasted for two days and included multiple youth speakers, religion based skits, a big, three hour long dance and publicly acclaimed Christian youth speaker Mike Paton. The students learned how to live their faith outside of retreats like CYO, how to become closer to Christ and in-

clude Him in their lives, and what it truly means to be a child of God. When asked about their experience, one of the youth responded, “I’d

never felt so secure in my faith than when surrounded by hundreds of teens just like me. I learned that being a Catholic is not something to be ashamed of, but some-

thing to be proud of and profess every chance I get. I also learned how to be comfortable just being me, and not trying to live up to the standards of those around me. I had a blast and can’t wait to attend again next year.” If you are interested in participating in CYO next year, be on the look out for information next March or talk to one of the previous participants. Or get in touch with Kurt and/or Sandy Liesener through the office.

Book of the Month Our school librarian, Mrs. Mohler helped us pick out a great book for our May book of the month. Check it out when you can!

Among the Hidden, by Margaret Peterson Haddix Twelve-year-old Luke Garner lives on a farm with his mother, father, and two brothers, Matthew and Mark. But in Luke’s world, families are only allowed to have two children, and Luke must stay hidden or risk being found by the government and being put to death. But when Luke meets another illegal third child, he begins to wonder: Why does he have to hide? Written by Margaret Peterson Haddix, this book is filled with plenty of surprises and twists that will keep even older readers guessing until the very end.
