MyfavoriteparadeistheZuluparade. Iabsolutelyloveseeinghowmuchfuntheyhave and spread along the parade route A few years ago, I was lucky to be invited to watch the Mardi Gras Day parade from the steps at Gallier Hall. I could feel their energy from the stand It was a memorable feeling Their joy was contagious The stands nearby camealiveastheypassedthrough.ZulubringsandspreadsthetruespiritofMardiGras alongtheirpath

Color is the magical element thatenhancesanddefinesthe beautyof thingsin our world Wouldn't you agree? Can you imagine if our surroundings were just black and white? As someone who appreciates the many shades of color, thissurelywouldnotsitwellwithme.
Color is the most impact-causing element in a room. Whether it is through the colors on the walls, flooring, furnishings, art, or fabric. Consider this, if it wasn’t for color, the different elements in your room wouldn’t have much distinction except for shape, and texture Look around you, and imagine all those colors not beingpresentintheroom
Besides affecting us visually, color also affects usmentallyandemotionally Itsmanyhuescan foster a myriad of feelings and emotions One example is adding a fresh new coat of dark paint in a white room: the transformationvisually and emotionally - will be instant In general terms, the room will feel darker, and enclosed, yetcozy, andmoreinviting
Ininteriordesign,theaimistousecolortocreate aspecificatmosphere,mood,andfeelinaspace
Since we spend a good amount of time in our homes, creating spaces that will positively influence our mood and lifestyle is essential So, whenever selecting a color for a room or home, depending on the color you choose, that room can feel welcoming, cheerful, cold, somber, dramatic, andsoon Inessence, thecolorsinyour homesayalotaboutyou Itaffectsourmoods in
spaces, and the reaction varies from person to person.
Further, colorcanmakeasmallroomfeellarger, or a large room feel smaller, cozy and intimate For instance, if you paint your den a warm color, it’ll give a warm and comfy feel, or painting the walls and ceiling the same color - preferably a light shade - that room will certainly look and feelbigger
Youcanalsochangetheshape, minimizeorhide flaws in a space, or create focal points using color.Hereareafewexamples:
paint the room with a lower ceiling a light colortomakeitfeelhigher in a long narrow space, paint both shorter walls a shade darker than the longer walls. It’llmaketheroomfeelmoresquare hide any flaws in a room by painting what youaretryingtohide, thesamecolorasthe wall - i.e. an ugly fireplace, a return vent on the wall, etc The same goes for architectural elements you’d like to downplay if the rooms in your home are on the smallerside, paintthemthesamecolor It’ll give the entire home a sense of continuity throughout create a focal point wall by painting it a contrasting color or a couple of shades darkerorlighter
I hope you have a better sense of the effects of color and how you it can benefit you at home Next issue, I will go deeper in how different colors affect us emotionally in different spaces inthehome
