hello dear reader!

I hope this finds you and your loved ones doing well.

I have just gotten back from the furniture market: a place filled with inspiration galore!

It happens twice a year, and while I don’t go every single year, every time I go it is a breath of fresh air. It reminds me why I am an interior designer while allowing me to learn more about designing with intention. After all, designing isn’t merely about furnishings arranged beautifully.

The event isn't only about furniture - the days are jam-packed with panels and seminars that are filled with information, and data about how people want to live and spend their time at home. I came back even more inspired to help those who want to come to a home that is beautiful, nurturing, and filled with the things they love.

5 Things to Get Your Home Ready for Guests Over the Holidays

or most people, the holidays are that special time of the year when family and friends from near and far will come to visit. If you are one of those who take the time to curate your home, so that your guests have a memorable experience at your home, read on.

I rarely have visitors, but still, I like to have my home ready if the opportunity presents itself.

Use the list below as a guideline to help you be ready to host around the holidays or even year-round.

Declutter and Deep Clean - These are the backbone of a welcoming home. For me, if a home is organized and clean, everything else is a bonus. Of course, I do appreciate a nicely decorated home but these two are essential!

Start at the Entrance - Believe it or not, the entrance of your home - outside and inside tends to be ignored. An entryway sets the expectation for the experience your guests will have even as they approach. Take some time to have the garden or lawn in shipshape as well as the front door and the foyer. If needed, add a fresh coat of paint to the front door, ensure the lights are working and add a pot of blooming flowers to greet your guests when they arrive. It will be noticed, I promise.

Spruce up the Decor - For those who are not serial holiday decorators, a few special touches will do. Seasonal candles, fresh garlands, and a centerpiece on a table or mantel will 3 | Riche Home and Lifestyle

transform the look and feel of your home. These are super easy to do and there’s little to no storing afterward.

Replenish the Essentials - That is, the fridge, pantry, and bar. Ensure your fridge is clean with enough room for extra food. Get a few things that guests would like such as a special juice, or their favorite type of milk or water (sparkling or flat)..

Also, a variety of teas, coffee, and snacks in case guests get hungry. If you’re inclined, ensure you have wine, staple liquors, and fixings for an impromptu happy hour or small gathering. While at it, grab some blue cheese, salami, and crackers to pair with the wine or a drink.

Ensure the Guestroom is Ready - This perhaps is the most important part of having guests. Ensure their room and linens are clean, the bedding is plush and their bathroom has all you would need if you were visiting someone. Keep in mind others may need more things than you do while visiting. A water carafe with glass by the bed as well as a small basket with snacks both savory and sweet are late-night treats. Lastly, a nicely scented candle and a vase with fresh flowers will be the perfect welcoming touch.

I hope these tips are helpful. Following them will have you ready for your guests in no time. Making a list to check each item off as you complete it is very helpful as it allows you to see the progress. Remember part of the holiday fun is in the process since this is for you too!

HOME TOUR Who doesn't love a home tour? This one caught my eye for its charming and inviting facade. The Gothic Revival details and bucolic landscape made me want to see more and it didn't disappoint. The sophisticated, yet simple English Farmhouse style with neutral tones and an occasional pop of color here and there is perfection! My favorite rooms are shown below.

Interior StylingTip Cocktail Tables or Ottomans

Adding decorative elements such as vases, trays, books, bowls, boxes, candles, etc... in varied shapes and sizes create a cohesive and more interesting look on your cocktail table or ottoman. Use contrasting shapes to add interest. Remember to include elements with texture and interesting details. Lastly, greenery or flowers - preferably fresh - is always a smart choice.

Furniture Market Highlights Going to furniture market is both overwhelming and fun!

This time around was even nicer as I had my dear friend and designer Wandra (@wcainteriors) alongside me thus the amazing photos of yours truly. I love her!!!

There were 4 full days, with an average of 10k steps a day and at least 22 showrooms. Honestly, I lost count.

We sat down on sofas and chairs, we open doors and drawers - all to get a feel for what we offer to our clients.

We ordered fabric samples, listened to experts on relevant topics, met wonderful people, laughed a lot, and got very skeptical on an Uber ride back to the hotel. - that was a first.

The days were very long - (6am-11pm -if not later) We crashed a party and had a blast. Every nignt our feet hurt but still we woke up with grateful hearts and big smiles to everyone we passed by. Next time, will do it all over again.

The Most Beautiful Towns in Europe by @CnTraveler are a sight to behold. i am adding them all to my list. I know for most it is way too cold to travel North - but, perhaps a few might be adventurous to try. Since most people prefer staying away from the cold, these towns could be easier to navigate and enjoy around the Christmas holiday. If it's not for you now, add a few of these to your bucket list, and enjoy them later!

Describe yourself in one word. Curious What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work? I love adding some whimsical love to the scenery of New Orleans. I enjoy watching people walk past the historical homes surrounded by Beach House giant trees and native plants.

Where do you draw inspiration? I draw a lot of inspiration from The New Yorker's illustrations, historical architecture all around the world, fashion (old and new), bright natural colors out in the world and eccentric people.

Who are your artistic influences or gurus? I have always been significantly influenced by Paul Gauguin's art. Although my technique and materials are very different from his, I try to channel his color palette, dream-like subjects and peaceful capture of his environment.

In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work? " 'Cause I'm walkin' to New Orleans I've got no time for talkin' I've got to keep a-walkin' " -Fats Domino Where can we find you when you are not creating art? I enjoy eating good food, spending time with family and my pets.

Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, Regina Corrêa came to visit New Orleans in 1999 and never left. She holds degrees in Interior Design and Art History, loves red wine, traveling the world, architecture, museums, music, nature and walking around our beloved City Park.
