OUR FAMOUS BLUE TURF
First installed in the summer of 1986, Boise State was the first school to have a nongreen football field in the nation. It has since become one of the most iconic destinations in Idaho.
THE BOISE STATE DIFFERENCE
What outsiders initially considered a gimmick, calling it “Smurf Turf” after the popular blue cartoon characters from the 80’s, THE BLUE soon became nationally associated with Boise State as a symbol for the football program’s blue-collar work ethic and the university’s commitment to forging ahead with bold innovation.
At Boise State, Broncos are not afraid to try new things inside and outside of the classroom. Our students and faculty are breaking down barriers, making new discoveries and innovating each day while sparking real change within their communities. That’s how progress happens: one day at a time.
Boise State has been repeatedly recognized as
among colleges nationwide by U.S. News and Report.
