Architectural projects begin with developing and understanding of the context in which
the design will be located. In order to achieve this familiarity, architects are required to
visit, analyse and familiarise themselves with the site and its surroundings. Montage has
the potential to clarify a way of thinking about architecture, in particular, how landscape,
infrastructure and urban environment overlay over time, how materials and technology
juxtapose and intersect with each other in a building's construction and, significantly, how
throughout the design process, we iteratively draw and model a project in order to synthesise
a diverse range of concerns and influences into a coherent whole.
