JOB TITLE Middle School Teacher

RESPONSIBLE TO: Deputy Head Pastoral

HOURS OF WORK:

• Monday to Friday

• 8.00 am to 5.30 pm

• Full-time, permanent

Role and Responsibilities:

Thinking

• Ensure regular and ongoing engagement with training and personal development

• Ability to probe, challenge and question appropriately and strive for continual improvement

• Keep up to date and understand the issues affecting preparatory and primary education

• Be a proactive part of the School’s appraisal cycle to enhance teaching and learning in the School.

Personal and Social Development

• To safeguard the health and safety of the children in the classroom and assume pastoral responsibility for them

• To encourage children to value themselves and others in the quality and nature of their learning.

Records

• To monitor and evaluate children’s progress by keeping an appropriate systematic record of their achievements over a day/week/term/year, depending on the context.

Assessment

• To carry out assessment procedures in line with agreed school policy and legal requirements

• To ensure assessment forms part of the initial planning of work

• To communicate the results of any assessment to the relevant groups.

Person Specification and Qualifications Essential

A graduate in education, or equivalent, with an exemplary teaching record

A clear understanding of curricular development in Years 3 & 4

Excellent knowledge of subject matter across all areas of the curriculum

Ability to enthuse and encourage the children in their learning whatever their ability level

A passion for all areas with a desire to be innovative

An understanding of different learning styles

Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and its application

Knowledge of child protection guidelines and procedures

An area of specialism to enhance our co-curricular offer

Strong ICT skills and confident ability using Microsoft products and interactive whiteboards

Be sympathetic to the Christian ethos of the school

Experience Prep School or Primary School teacher
