Our mission: St. Paul's Episcopal Day School develops confident learners, ethical leaders, and compassionate, engaged citizens.
The 2024-2025 school year was a tremendous success. We made significant progress in all areas of our strategic plan, successfully completed our accredidation cycle, and continued to evaluate and improve our core programs.
• Thanks to your support, we completed street calming measures on Walnut, improved the back entrance space, and raised the funds needed to add additional parking spaces.
• We achieved reaccredidation from ISACS, our accreditation organization.
• We welcomed 75 new students to the St. Paul’s community.
• We expanded our learning support and counseling teams in response to parent, student, and teacher feedback.
• We completed the updated campus master plan.
• We started the quiet phase of fundraising for campus improvements and the endowment. (We will share more soon!)
As we look ahead, I am excited about the launch of a new lower school writing program and to see how our faculty and staff will positively impact our academic, chapel, and life skills programs.
Our accredidation visiting team, in their report conclusion, had this to say about our team:
“They word hard, and their hard work has paid off; the school is cared for and appreciated. The students are happy and curious, and the families support the mission and vision of the school.”
I couldn’t agree more. Thank you all for another incredible year.

Over the past year, we have welcomed many new faculty and staff to the St. Paul’s community. As our team evolves, we find new ways to meet our mission of developing confident learners, ethical leaders, and compassionate, engaged citizens.
Hilary joined St. Paul's after teaching for 10 years in the Park Hill School District. Hilary has 13 years of experience teaching Kindergarten through Second Grade. She holds a BA and MAT from Trinity University and a M. Ed. in Language and Literacy from Park University.
Stella recently served as a High School Counselor at Notre Dame de Sion High School. She also developed and taught a Seminar course for freshmen and led travel experiences for students, most recently to Olympic National Park in Washington. Prior to counseling, Stella taught Middle School Humanities at the Mission Dolores Academy. Stella holds a B.S. In Health Sciences from UMKC, and a M.Ed. in Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology from Mizzou.
Hilary enjoys working at St. Paul's because of its commitment to nurturing both academic excellence and personal growth in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Before coming to St. Paul’s, Drew was the head men’s basketball coach at Rockhurst University for nine years. Drew holds a BA in elementary education from Saint Louis University, and he has extensive coaching and leadership experience.
Drew enjoys sports, exercise, travel, and being outside. When it comes to teaching and coaching, Drew loves seeing kids improve and learn life lessons through sports and athletic achievement.
Callie holds a BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Masters in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Kansas. Callie joined St. Paul’s after working for six years as a speech therapist for middle and high school students. She loves helping adolescents find the power of their own voice!
TEACHER
Jessie holds a BA from the University of Kansas and a M. Ed. In elementary education from Loyola, Chicago. Jessie
has experience as a kindergarten teacher in both public and charter schools, and she’s also a current St. Paul’s parent.
Ms. Hansen is thrilled to join our staff and share in the high academic standards and warm, nurturing environment that make our school so special.
Katy holds a BFA with a concentration in painting and printmaking from KU and a MAT in interdisciplinary art education from Columbia College. Katy has extensive domestic and international teaching experience, most recently as an art teacher at St. Ann’s in Prairie Village.
Julie taught at Longview Farm Elementary in Lee’s Summit 19 years before coming to St. Paul’s. She holds a BS in Journalism and Communications from KU and a cross categorical special education certificate from UCM.
Julie is passionate about mentoring and coaching students with diverse learning needs, and shas enjoyed getting to know the St. Paul's community.
Ms. Hoogendyk is enjoying exploring the local art museums near the St. Paul's campus and sharing her passion for art with our students.
Ms. Libby Huggins has joined Ms. Nash as a 5th grade teacher for the 25-26 school year. Libby has a M.S. in Elementary Education from Rockhurst University and a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from KU. Ms. Huggins worked as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher at St. Paul's from 2016-2024, and she filled in seamlessly in various substitute roles throughout the 24-25 school year.
With her heart for community and her love of learning, we're lucky to have Ms. Huggins back at St. Paul's.
Rachel most recently worked as a paraprofessional at Sunset Ridge Elementary in Overland Park. She has also worked as an elementary teaching assistant at Bank Street School for Children in New York. Rachel holds a BS in music with an outside focus on elementary education and a MS in Early Education from Bank Street School of Education. (She also holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance from Stony Brook!)
Annel joined the St. Paul’s team as our Development Coordinator after most recently serving as the Volunteer Coordinator at Shelter KC. Annel is so proud to be part of the St. Paul's
team, and she enjoys serving St. Paul's teachers, families and fellow staff.
She was raised in Utah and misses its mountains, but Kansas City is home! She loves music, reading, and anything creative.
Will is a KU graduate and a CPA with an extensive accounting and operational background; he most recently worked as the controller for a clinical research firm. Along with his wife and their three boys they do their best to live each day in a way that satisfies the constant attention seeking required by their two dogs.
For Will, joining St. Paul’s was a nobrainer. “The secret to life is making other people’s lives better” is something he has been telling his kids for 20 years. Here at St. Paul’s, he gets to see that every day and it makes work a true joy.
Sally has over five years of accounting experience, and is working towards her Masters of Science in Accounting at UMKC Bloch School of Management. In her free time, she enjoys riding bicycles with her husband, gardening with native plants, birding, and growing food!
It is important to her to be a part of an organization that betters the community and sparks joy, and St. Paul’s checks all those boxes. She feels honored to work at St. Paul’s!
Sara was previously a member of our 1st grade teaching team from 2010-2015. Sara holds a BS from Mizzou and a M.Ed. in elementary education from Rockhurst. Sara, her husband, and their two daughters resided in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, but they moved back in KC in 2024!
Sara is so glad to return to the first grade classroom co-teaching with Ms. Lorfing. Teaching is one of her passions, and she loves collaborating with the incredible staff at St. Paul’s.
Miriam served as the St. Paul’s admissions director from 2009-2012 and has experience as a Spanish teacher, yoga instructor, and most recently, as a mindfulness coach at Pembroke Hill. Miriam and her husband, Kerry, are also current St. Paul’s parents.
In her spare time, you can find Miriam hanging out with family, reading, walking the dog, or exercising. She loves working at St. Paul’s since it has always felt like home.

UNIVERSITY AND ANTICIPATED GRADUATION YEAR
West Point - United States Military Academy, 2027
CURRENT CITY
West Point, NY
ANTICIPATED PROFESSION/ROLE Army Physician
CAN YOU DESCRIBE WHAT SCHOOL IS LIKE FOR YOU? WHAT’S A DAY-IN-THE-LIFE LIKE AT WEST POINT?
During an average day at West Point, I wake up around 0600 and prepare for morning formation, uniform inspection, and mandatory breakfast in the mess hall at 0645. However, if I choose to run, swim,
or hit the gym in the morning I will wake up at 0500. After that, I will have class from 0740 until 1150, then go straight into lunch formation. After that, I will go back to class until around 1500. Once that is done, I will usually head to practice until around 1900, grab dinner, and then do homework or study until around 2300, and then do it all over again the next day.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT YOUR TRAINING? ARE THERE ANY ASPECTS THAT YOU FIND CHALLENGING?
The training at West Point is extremely diverse. During the academic year, we are still required to take Physical Classes. I’ve taken a boxing class, a military movement class with rope climbing and tumbling, and even a survival swimming class. These were challenging classes, but they gave me an opportunity to explore different parts of my athletic ability.
Additionally, each summer you have some sort of military training. Before my freshman year, I completed Cadet Basic Training which required quick and abrupt assimilation to military culture, and I could not talk to any family or friends for six weeks. Last summer, I completed Cadet Field Training, which included Field Exercises – a.k.a trips to the woods – to practice setting up patrol bases, detecting an enemy, land navigation during the nighttime, and shooting rifles under nighttime lenses. After Cadet Field Training, I completed Air Assault school where I learned how to sling loads, prepare equipment for flight, and rappel out of a helicopter from 70 feet above the ground.
IT’S CLEAR YOU ARE VERY INVOLVED IN SPORTS. HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR ACADEMICS, ATHLETICS, AND MILITARY TRAINING?
I try to make sure I keep my military training mainly in the summer, that way I can focus on my grades and my fitness
Platoon Sergeant,

during the academic year. However, it can still be hard to balance everything and still have time to decompress. My trick for balancing everything is to look at everything as fun, because when I start to see things as a job it becomes draining quickly. I also usually delete apps like Instagram during the week, so that I can limit as much distraction as possible.
Right now, I am hoping to get a spot to branch into the Medical Service Corps, which is reserved for West Point Cadets looking to go straight to Medical School
For
after graduating. This would be paid for by the Army as well, but I would also incur a 4-year service obligation in addition to the 5 years I already owe. However, this service would all be as an Army Doctor, which is my ultimate goal for the future.
St. Paul’s prepared me for my future by showing me there is so much more that this world has to offer. I don’t know a single other school that allowed me to travel to Florida, Colorado, and Spain as only a middle school student. Going to a foreign country especially showed me the importance of learning about other cultures and perspectives, which is especially valuable for military service.
My advice to current St. Paul’s students is to dream as big as possible. St. Paul’s prepared me and my classmates to be exceptional. While I am studying at a Military Academy, my classmates are now studying on both coasts and even abroad in Paris. Some of my other classmates are starting businesses or doing internships at the capital. I say that because hopefully we can all serve as a blueprint to achieving the unthinkable. I hope St. Paul’s students believe that they are truly capable of branching out and making a positive impact on the world, because they are.
With support from our parents, grandparents, and sponsors, we raised more than $560,000 at the St. Paul’s auction in March 2025. Due to generous donations made to the 2025 Fund-a-Need parking initiative, $350,000 was allocated to build additional parking lots around the St. Paul’s campus. We are so proud of our school community and the support showed for both the Auction and Funda-Need.
Our 2025 Auction was clearly a huge success. A very heartfelt thank you to Lindy Beyer and McKenzie Muehlfelder (Auction Chairs) and Suzanne Fox (Parents’ Guild President) for their leadership, organization, hard work, and creativity. We also want to thank all the amazing volunteers who helped on auction committees. They all worked tirelessly throughout the school year to ensure we could meet our goals and have a fun night. Congratulations to everyone who supported the auction this past year!

Our dedicated team of parents works hard every year to support our teachers and students through a variety of projects. Parents’ Guild members serve as room parents, auction organizers, event coordinators, fundraisers, and much more.
These efforts are vital to the St. Paul’s mission, and we are grateful for these parents’ volunteer time and financial support.
Many thanks to our network of dedicated Parents’ Guild volunteers for organizing wonderful events all year long, including the book fair, carnival, parent social events, and much more!
Generous donations from the Parents’ Guild in 24-25 supported the school in the following ways:
• $399,500 donation to add more parking options around campus (construction to begin in 2026)
• $150,000 donation toward the school's annual operating budget
• $6,000 added to the school’s Good Samaritan Fund

Each contribution to The Spartan Fund is more than a gift; it is an investment in our students and the great things they will accomplish now and in the years ahead.
Generous support of the Spartan Fund makes an immediate impact on all educational programs and ensures each student can learn, love, and lead at St. Paul’s. Without this essential Spartan Fund support, St. Paul’s wouldn’t be able to offer faculty professional development, tuition assistance, and classroom experiences that help our students become leaders who make a difference in the world.
This year, gifts to the Spartan Fund ranged from $10 to more than $50,000 and supporters included board members, current and former staff, parents, grandparents, alumni, and their families. We are grateful to our community for helping us celebrate our past and build a strong future for generations of St. Paul’s students to come.
