Several raccoons carrying the canine distemper virus have been reported in Stouffville, the town says.

Infected Stouffville raccoons may be lethal to your dog

They’re infected, aggressive and show disoriented behaviour.

No, it’s not The Walking Dead, but it is a cause for concern as several raccoons carrying the canine distemper virus have been reported in Stouffville, the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville warned in a media release Tuesday.

The virus may be lethal to dogs that aren’t vaccinated.

It affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous systems of canine mammals such as dogs, raccoons and skunks. Cats and humans, though, have nothing to worry about, as it is not transmittable to them.

A rise in aggressive behaviour — a common symptom of the virus — was reported since January among local raccoons. Disorientation, seizures and other bizarre behaviour are also symptoms. Infected raccoons are more likely to approach people and sleep in public places.

“It is very important that residents who encounter raccoons showing bizarre behaviour be very cautious,” said Whitchurch-Stouffville animal control officer Connie Arnone.

Dogs can be infected upon contact with a raccoon.

The virus can be transmitted through runny noses, teary eyes, urine or feces. The town urges dog owners to keep their pets leashed, vaccinated and licensed to avoid any issues.

The most common area of reported cases is in eastern Stouffville, south of Main Street and east of Memorial Park. There have been some reported cases of property damage caused by raccoons, but no reports of injuries.

“There have been cases reported in the Thicketwood Boulevard area and around Summitview Public School,” Arnone said. “We expect the number of cases of canine distemper in the area to remain level or possibly increase over the coming months.”

The day after the release was issued, another suspected case was reported on Alderwood Street.

To avoid any incident with infected raccoons, do not approach them, do not feed them and keep all garbage and recycling securely stored. Close off open areas and keep garage doors shut to avoid domestication of raccoons.

I’m Ali, your new reporter at The Sun-Tribune.

It’s been over a week since I started my new job here and I’ve already fallen in love with the town and its people.

You’re friendly and you care about this town.

I also discovered someone in town has my name written across their licence plate! In case you see it, know that it’s not me. But what a coincidence, eh?

A little about me, I was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area but found myself living in Guelph for the last decade. I attended university there — just like our mayor — and instantly felt a connection with the city. I hadn’t felt a connection like that for a long while, not until I arrived here last week.

My editor, Jim Mason, took me around for a brief tour of the town. He showed me the sights and sounds of the “country close to the city” and I immediately had a barrage of story ideas bouncing around in my head.

After a few walks up and down Main Street, I was impressed by the small town charm. I’ve yet to visit the Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment - 19 on the Park, Latcham Gallery or even the Earl of Whitchurch, but from what I’ve heard, they’re amazing places worthy of being situated in a

Ali Raza town that has become one of Canada’s fastest-growing municipalities.

It’s a pleasure to drive through country roads and see nothing but farms, trees and open fields. I don’t feel the congestion I felt back driving in and out of Toronto for my last job and it’s a huge relief.

I’ve been told of the region’s many hiking trails; believe me when I say I’m excited to explore them all this summer.

Stouffville, like many towns and cities spread across our great country, acts as a reminder of the warmth, kindness and diversity that make Canadians known throughout the world.

I’m proud to be part of a community that shows us what it means to be Canadian. It’s a pleasure to serve the community and to play a role in keeping us all informed so we can be better neighbours and better citizens.

Hitherto, it’s been me telling you all the virtues of our ham, but I now have independent corroboration of my story. At the recent Ontario Independent Meat Processors Convention, our MAPLE SUGAR HAM won the GOLD AWARD in the ham-making competition. It’s not that we’re so smart, or even innovative, it’s just our stubborn adherence to the idea of not cutting corners and taking shortcuts in the process of making our hams (or anything else we do for that matter). For Easter, ham is the meal of choice, and we offer three types: First, we make a great TRADITIONAL EASTER HAM. With the bone in, it’s available either whole or half, and it’s slow cooked over oak. Next is a BLACK FOREST HAM. This is boneless, slow-smoked over oak and fully cooked, ready to go. Third, we have our MAPLE SUGAR HAM. These are boneless and slow-roasted with Maple and Brown Sugar until they are fully cooked. What is different about our hams is they are not ‘extended’ like commercially-made hams are. When you read the label on a supermarket ham and see those words ‘protein added’, know that it’s not a good thing at all. What it means is that not all you are paying for, and eating, is actually ham, and what ham you do get is of a texture far different than what ham used to be like, and ours still is.

It takes us longer to make these, and they shrink during the process rather than grow, but what you get is the genuine old-fashioned article. It’s best to order early!

Knock three times and tell me my water stinks

K

nocks on the front door are about as common as phone calls on our land line these days.

Our kids are all living south of the 401. The basketball hoop is rusting in the driveway. Any toys still in the house await being declared collector’s items on eBay or, more likely, a visit from a very young relative.

Do children still ring the front door bell or has that neighbourhood nicety been replaced by all things social media, too? ie. “Reminder: Brooklyn, age 6, you have an invitation waiting in your Linkedin profile to fly drones with Chloe after hot yoga class.”

When there are young people on our doorstep they’re trying to collect shrinking Canadian dollars for a charity that sounds pretty close to the mainstream non-profits we all know — but aren’t.

2016 would appear to offer us a rare reprieve from election campaigning, including the requisite knocking on doors and knocking of competitors.

And most of us don’t knock on the neighbour’s door to borrow a cup of sugar anymore. We spare the opportunity for social interaction and drive to and from Nofrills or Metro instead. This is not Leave it to Beaver.

So, when a knock came, it was a tad surprising.

The dude on the porch came bearing bad news. Like some sort of Kreskin with a chemistry set, he could tell from the street that our drinking water was bad. Real bad.

The better news was that he had the antidote for our problem, if we would just let him in to examine our system.

And probably turn over our VISA number or a series of cheques.

We were busy. We had more faith in our municipal fathers — we are governed by an all-

Yes, we’d heard of Walkerton, but we still were not interested.

We closed the door with a firm “no thanks”.

He knocked again.

We opened the door again and said we were disinterested. Again.

He knocked again.

(Go ahead and hum Knock Three Times by Tony Orlando and Dawn. I did.)

We did not answer and assumed he left.

Although I did slyly exit the house by a side door, in case salesman of the month was lying in wait behind the hedge.

Would this repeat knocking strategy do well in the United States where firearms are often at the ready?

The Town of WhitchurchStouffville issued a public warning related to the campaign last week. They noted the rigorous testing our tap water is subjected to.

They also advised, “If the salesperson gets aggressive, the resident reserves the right to call York Regional Police at 9-1-1”.

Does that also apply to duct cleaners clogging up my land line?

We’re not looking so good

A

t Markham High, art was never a favourite subject.

Truth is, it was a study I totally disliked.

Even with a ruler, I couldn’t draw a straight line. And my circles looked like eggs laid by a leghorn hen.

Such wasn’t always so.

On one occasion, I received a red ribbon for a blue bird drawing at an area school fair. But that was in Jr. Fourth, (Grade 7). What little skill I may have had then obviously disappeared two years later. I was accorded a C in First Form art, (Grade 9).

I still recall the teacher holding aloft one of my completed ‘masterpieces’ and announcing sarcastically to the class “this is how not to do it.” An embarrassing moment to say the least.

Adding insult to injury, the entire room vibrated with laughter, a response that didn’t assist my already deflated ego.

However, time marches on. On entering the field of journalism I was prompted to learn something related to another form of art. It was called ‘balance’.

“Balance is important, particularly with a newspaper’s front page,” former Tribune publisher Bruce Annan repeatedly said. Slowly but surely his advice sank in.

Balance, ah yes balance.

It was imperative 60 years ago and equally essential today. And not just in the Fifth Estate but similarly so here in town.

While I dislike taking aim at an individual department, I can’t help but wonder, when it comes to architectural design, (if there is such a sector), who’s in charge, the municipality or the developer? In many instances I conclude it’s the latter.

Roaming Around with Jim Thomas Take many subdivisions for example, particularly those south of Hoover Park and north of Millard Street, I see rows and rows of boring uniformity. The only visible differences would seem to be some homes have two-car garages and others have one.

This form of standardization has become so common, one’s prompted to believe builders are merely handed a single plan and told “take it from here Joe, the rest is up to you.” And so it goes, street after street of look-alikes. How monotonous! ‘... exteriors that are

boxy, tedious and boring’ Little wonder so many home-buyers are investing big bucks in houses here, only to tear them down and replace them with what they want, most larger than originals.

On Rupert Avenue, where we’ve lived for the last 57 years, a single block of homes, including ours, was constructed by one contractor. And all, with a few minor exceptions, were the same shape and size.

This was OK back in 1954.

But not today. Individuality’s the name of the

game. And last fall it reared its belated head. A primary house was demolished and replaced by a two-storey structure, much to the amazement of onlookers.

While its dimensions tend to minimize those within its surroundings, the effect breaks structural repetitiveness on our side of the street.

It’s not the first of its caste and it won’t be the last.

Home-buyers in much of rural Whitchurch are saved this expense. With most lots sized at two acres or more, houses in all shapes and sizes are universal. It’s interesting to travel the back roads and view the beauty of these works of art.

But one has no need to scrutinize the residences of our country cousins when we can appreciate the same individuality here on Main Street, with many homes dating back more than a century.

Check out, if you will, O’Brien Avenue and Church Street, where builders of years gone by obviously took pride in distinctiveness and originality. Not so today.

But why stop at residential endeavours? Many Stouffville commercial and industrial locations also show a woeful lack of architectural initiative.

There are sites where our town could have risen above the ordinary and become a regional showplace. But we failed.

Take, for example, the newest of our arenas, SoccerCity and some townhouses and condos, perhaps attractive on the inside but exteriors that are boxy, tedious and boring.

We can do better.

Lights out for Earth Hour In one year, the world consumes approximately 15 terawatts of energy — enough to power 150 billion light bulbs.

That’s an enormous amount of energy and although WhitchurchStouffville only consumes a fraction of that amount, the town joins countless towns and cities across the world in Earth Hour 2016 to power down for one hour this Saturday, March 19 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

During that hour, the municipality will reduce its electricity consumption by turning off most lights at municipal offices and facilities.

Lights needed for essential programs and public safety will remain lit.

Earth Hour is a worldwide grassroots movement and an annual event supported by the World Wildlife Fund. Its purpose is to raise awareness about energy conservation and climate change.

The town encourages residents and businesses to participate in the initiative by powering down on Saturday night on the designated hour.

It’s not just Earth Hour that can reduce a heavy carbon footprint, but also taking transit, unplugging unused electrical appliances and washing clothes in cold water.

So, for at least an hour, turn off those computer screens, put down the smartphones and go for a walk, have a chat or play a game with friends and family, the town urges.

Crime Stoppers wants your help identifying and apprehending a suspect who fled during an encounter with a homeowner on Cedarvale Boulevard in Whitchurch-Stouffville.

The suspect — described as a 20-year-old male, possibly Middle-Eastern, wearing a black Canada Goose-style jacket and dark pants — was last seen on March 3 when at 1:30 p.m. he attended the residence on Cedarvale Boulevard in Musselman’s Lake.

The homeowner had received a Canon DSLR camera delivered by Canada Post. It had

been ordered online through Best Buy with the homeowner’s credit card information – but he wasn’t the one who ordered it.

Soon after, the suspect arrived and claimed to be from Canada Post, although he had no identification. He tried to exchange the package with the homeowner, but fled when the homeowner took a photograph of the man.

Police seek owners of recovered property Have criminals taken some of your belongings in the last several months?

If so, York Regional Police may have recovered your goods and is giving you the chance to reclaim them.

The property was recovered during the arrests of four males for a series of break and enters and thefts.

You can view images of the recovered property on Flickr and contact police if you spot your belongings.

In December, police began investigating a series of residential break and enters during which jewelry and other items were stolen.

Police executed search warrants Dec. 14 and recovered a large amount of jewelry, cameras and collectibles.

Police were called to a residence in the area of Yonge Street and Maple Grove Avenue in Richmond Hill Dec. 19, where another break and enter had occurred. The homeowner had video of the incident, which helped police identify the suspects.

Investigators linked the suspects to several Vaughan thefts in which shoppers had wallets and bags stolen from shopping carts.

The four suspects together face 46 charges.

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is holding a public meeting Tuesday regarding a proposal of a 10-storey apartment building on Main Street.

The plot of land proposed for the location of the new apartment building is at 5531 Main St., located on the TOWN OF WHITCHURCH-STOUFFVILLE south side of Main Street between Sandiford Drive and Artist’s sketch of 162-unit building Ringwood Drive.

The two-and-half acre site is under a zoning bylaw proposed for Main Street in westthat will be changed during the meeting to allow for end Stouffville. more housing units per hectare and a reduction of width for parking spaces and driving lanes. The proposed apartment building is expected to have 162 units with a ground floor commercial space for shops and services.

The zoning bylaw for the area would also need to be amended to increase the height allowance from 20 meters as it currently stands to 34 meters, the height of the proposed apartment building.

Currently, the land is being used for car sales from a small house and barn. Both buildings are proposed to be demolished to make room for the new building.

International sounds team up for refugees

It’s not every day you can travel from Stouffville to the Caribbean over to the British Isles making your way to the Middle East and back to Main Street again.

But on April 9 you’ll be able to do just that, without even leaving your seat. All thanks to a concert organized by Stouffville Cares, a local organization that brought a Syrian refugee family — the Fandis — to the town.

No passport required for this musical journey at the Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment - 19 on the Park.

It features four acts: two-time Junonominated Jason Wilson & The Perennials, Stouffville’s own alternative folk musician Greg Mashinter, York Region’s chorale The Tudor Consort and legendary musician George Dimitri Sawa, specializing in traditional Arabic music.

The concert is in support of Syrian refugees and particularly acts as a warm welcome for the Fandis. The family can finally settle down, send their kids to school and live a dignified life after four years of being displaced from their home in Syria.

It’s a struggle that more than 3 million Syrians have experienced since the civil war erupted in 2011, with 6.5 million still internally displaced in the war-torn country.

“The cause is great, our first family is wonderful,” said Jason Wilson, who will perform with his band and is a member of Stouffville Cares. “We are just as lucky as they are to have a wonderful family like them in our community.”

Wilson and The Perennials offer a “jazzyreggae” sound. With his Scottish background and love of Caribbean music, he’s melded the two worlds together in his music. The result is a sound like no other, taking you back and forth across the Atlantic.

“Reggae is our go-to sound,” Wilson said.

“I’ve got a real affinity for folk music from Scotland, Ireland and England. We’ve been fortunate enough to play in Canada, UK,

Jamaica and lots of festivals.”

Hometown artist Greg Mashinter just released his three-song EP Out Of Our Minds with fellow musician Dylan Walsh in November. He’s also played a number of shows in Jason Wilson & The Perennials are on the bill at a Stouffville Cares benefit next month.

The 14-voice Tudor Consort, which has performed sacred and secular music, will accompany the other three acts.

Sawa, dubbed as the “legendary master of Arabic music,” has a career spanning his whole life ever since he first learned piano in his native Alexandria, Egypt. He came to Canada in 1970, obtained his doctorate in historical Arabic musicology at the University of Toronto and specializes playing the Qanun, a traditional Arabic stringed instrument that most resembles a harp.

Aside from the Qanun, Sawa plays a number of Arabic stringed and percussion instruments. His performances range from traditional folk music from Egypt and Syria to popular contemporary Arabic songs.

“It’s a bit all over the map, but that makes for a real fun evening,” Wilson said.

“You’re not getting the same thing for a few hours.”

Tickets are $35 + HST and are available online at nineteenonthepark.com or at the box office. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.

Trevor Carrick barely made it to his NHL debut

Trevor Carrick had a pretty hectic Tuesday.

But for the 21-year-old Stouffville resident who is in his second season as a defenceman with the Charlotte Checkers

of the American Hockey League, it was well worth it.

At the same it was one Carrick won’t soon forget.

required his services that night to replace the injured Ron Hainsey for their National Hockey League road game against the Washington Capitals.

While elated in going to the big show for his long-awaited NHL debut, Carrick had an adventure just getting to Washington, D.C., as his flight that originated in Rockford, Ill. was delayed.

Arriving at the Verizon Center at close to 6:30 p.m., Carrick missed the pre-game warm-up skate, but suited up in time before the 7 p.m. puck drop, where he took a regular shift while paired with Michal Jordan and even saw added duty on the power play and in killing penalties.

Although the Hurricanes came out on the short end of a 2-1 overtime decision, Carrick savored the moment.

“It sure felt pretty good,” the Stouffville Spirit graduate said Wednesday morning from his hotel room in Pittsburgh, where the Hurricanes are scheduled to play the Penguins Thursday. “It was actually better than I had anticipated, even though it was a long day for me when my flight was delayed and I got to the arena just before the puck dropped.

“I was a little nervous to start with, but after I took a few shifts I began to feel more confident out there.”

Logging more ice time during the game than what he originally had anticipated, the Hurricanes’ fourth-round pick in the 2012 NHL draft was quick to note in some ways the game played at the NHL level as compared

with what he was accustomed to in the AHL is a little quicker.

But at the same time, he cited it can be easier.

‘It was actually better than I had anticipated, even though it was a long day for me when my flight was delayed and I got to the arena just before the puck dropped.’

“Because you’re playing with high-calibre guys who know where they have to be on the ice,” he pointed out. “They’re never out of position because they know where they’re going to be.”

As for how long Carrick will remain with the Hurricanes, that remains to be seen as he noted Hainsey is out day to day with the flu.

For the time being, he intends to live in the moment.

“Right now I’ll just play it day by day,” he said.

Prior to joining the Hurricanes, Carrick had 37 points (nine goals and 28 assists) in 58 games this season with the Checkers.

Those numbers placed him third among Checkers’ scorers this season and tied for sixth among all AHL defencemen.

Earlier this season, Carrick was also a member of Canada’s team that won the 2015 Spengler Cup.

Drake Caggiula played an instrumental role as the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team swept their best-ofthree NCHC quarter-final series over Colorado College in Grand Forks, N.D. last weekend.

The 21-year-old former Stouffville Spirit forward, who is in his senior year and serves

as an assistant captain, collected a pair of helpers in a 7-1 win Friday.

The following day, Caggiula scored in North Dakota’s series’ clinching 5-1 win.

Second-ranked North Dakota will play the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff in Minneapolis Friday.

Caggiula was named a Natrional Collegiate Hockey Conference first team all-star this week.

Undrafted, he is free to sign with any pro team after North Dakota’s season ends.

Minor midget Clippers make history with AA York Simcoe playoff run The Stouffville Clippers minor midgets accomplished a first in being the first AA entry in their organization to reach the York Simcoe finals.

During Timms’ time in directing the fortunes of the Sting program, he recorded an impressive record of 104-44 during the regular season and an overall wonloss mark of 115-55.

In each of his first two seasons as head coach, Timms directed the club to the OCAA silver medal and a berth in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Championship in his first year.

Jason Kerswill, Seneca’s manager of athletics, recreation and sports centre operations, said Timms will leave a huge void in their volleyball program.

“Shane has been a tremendous leader within our Sting family here at Seneca and will be greatly missed,” he said. “His firm belief in guiding student-athlete development both on the court and off has earned him the respect of his fellow coaches, the staff and most importantly, his players. Our goal is to now build on the foundation that Shane has established.”

When the Seneca College Sting men’s volleyball team takes to the court next season in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association, they will be without a familiar face.

Shane Timms, who served as their head coach over the last eight seasons along with one as an assistant coach and one as a student athlete, announced his resignation, the school announced Friday.

A Stouffville resident and Stouffville District Secondary School graduate who was a member of their volleyball program, Timms made his announcement to the team and administrators during their year-end meetings last Thursday.

Timms said he is leaving to spend more time with his young family.

“I would like to take this opportunity first and foremost to thank the athletics and recreation department at Seneca for all of their effort and support, not only of myself, but also my teams over the past several years,” he said in a press release. “It has been a great honour to work alongside each and every member of the department to provide our student athletes with the opportunities to experience success both on the court and in the classroom.

“I am forever indebted to the student athletes I have had the privilege to coach in my time at Seneca. Their commitment to the volleyball programs here at Seneca has left me confident that the program

Spirit assistant coach going home to Pickering Dave Demarinis spent two years serving as an assistant coach with the Stouffville Spirit.

During that time, he gained a wealth of knowledge about the nuances of the game at the Jr. A level from Spirit co-owner and general manager Kenny Burrows, head coach Jeff Perrin and assistant coach Rob Acton.

But when the 2016-17 Ontario Junior Hockey League season commences, Demarinis hopes those lessons learned will be an asset in his new surroundings. He was hired by the rival Pickering Panthers to work on their new coaching staff led by Patrick Shearer, the Panthers officially announced Monday.

For Demarinis, he acknowledged the decision to go to Pickering, where he currently resides and grew up, was not easy.

“It was very difficult,” he said. “Stouffville was like my second home. I live in Pickering and grew up there. But this gives me an opportunity to work with Patrick Shearer and I’ve coached against him during my time in coaching the 99 AAA minor bantam and bantam teams in Whitby. I’ve always respected the way he coached and I’m certain he felt the same way about me.

“This is a chance to coach with him and in my hometown. I couldn’t pass it up.”

Revealing he interviewed for the Panthers’ head coaching position once it was open, Demarinis said he began discussions with Shearer once the Spirit’s season concluded and Shearer’s with the Quinte Red Devils, where he was a fixture since 1999,

ended.

During those discussions, Demarinis felt there was a chemistry, as they were on the same wavelength on a variety of hockey-related matters.

That definitely worked in his favour.

“We talked of different things and looked at things the same way,” he recalled.

In reflecting on his time with the Spirit, where this past season he handled the club’s defence, Demarinis said it was significant in his hockey career by opening the door for him to move up the coaching ranks.

With that, he was quick to offer thanks to Burrows, Perrin and Acton.

“Kenny (Burrows) was fantastic with me.

He gave me a chance to go from minor hockey into the junior ranks. He was great and I thank him for giving me a chance.

“Jeff (Perrin) was fantastic, too. He gave me full responsibility of handling the defence and let me have a major voice. He helped me a lot in my two years with the club and I’m grateful for the chance to work with Robbie Acton and to listen to his values along with his father (Keith, former NHL player and coach) and Robbie’s brother Will.

“They were great years. Going forward I’m excited.”

With Demarinis leaving the Spirit, Burrows said the club will be looking for someone to fill his void on the bench.

Burrows said Demarinis was an integral part of their coaching staff.

“Dave is a good person ... he’s a fun person and made it fun and that’s half the battle,” he said.

Giuseppe Strazzeri a true community leader

A

community without a leader is just a random group.

For some within Bradford West Gwillimbury, Giuseppe Strazzeri, more commonly known as “G”, was that kind of leader.

It didn’t matter where he was or what he was doing, you could always find the friendly mortgage agent with a smile on his face.

And that’s how many people will remember him, after his sudden passing on the morning of March 2, sending a wave of grief throughout BWG. A resident of Bradford for more than 14 years, Strazzeri quickly become involved in multiple groups and fundraisers.

If you’re familiar with the Bradford Social Networking Association on Facebook, then it’s likely you had become familiar with Strazzeri’s upbeat demeanour and ongoing drive to connect local residents and businesses alike. From Tequila Friday’s at Don Cherry’s Sports Bar & Grill to the annual BSNA Baseball Tournament held every September, Strazzeri left a truly positive imprint on BWG. “This is a man who the town should never forget,” Carlos Costa wrote on a Facebook post. Costa is one of many close

friends Strazzeri had made while working – and playing – within BWG. “A man full of life. He will be greatly missed by the town and many friends,” wrote another resident.

Born in Sicily, Italy, Strazzeri moved to Canada in 1966 with his parents at the age of four.

He moved around many times throughout his childhood, meeting many amazing people along the way.

‘It’s a proud moment when you help someone achieve their goals and dreams, especially when they thought it could never be done.’

But when he arrived in Bradford, he knew it was something special. During his first five years, he sat back and watched the flow of the community, eventually jumping on the chance to open a storefront business.

In order to learn what BWG was all about, Strazzeri took the time to attend town meetings and begin building a large net-

work of clients, colleagues and friends.

Eventually, he became involved with the Bradford Board of Trade, where he held many positions including executive director, vice-president of membership and vice-president of community relations and government affairs.

In a profile written for the BBT, Strazzeri expressed his thoughts regarding linking people within the community.

“It’s a proud moment when you help someone achieve their goals and dreams, especially when they thought it could never be done.”

Strazzeri certainly helped many within BWG achieve their dreams.

As days and weeks go by, now without the bright light of Strazzeri, friends continue to remember him by supporting one another, reminiscing about the times they spent with him and the kind of impact he made on BWG. “He changed my life and, in a way, I believe he saved it,” said Nicole Kim, who worked closely with Strazzeri on a number of projects through the BSNA. “I truly would not be the outgoing person I am today if he did not believe in me. He was my best friend, who never judged anyone. I will miss him.”
