They are just some of the descriptors being bandied about by residents in the Crow’s Nest Way area who are not happy with a proposed subdivision development in the Main Street and Baker Hill Boulevard area of west-end Stouffville. “We knew something was going to happen in the lot beside us, but when the plans were first presented to us it was a shocker. The amount of density,” said Crow’s Nest Way resident Gary Hyman, who got his neighbours together June 26 to film a video opposing the proposed Minto project and posted it to YouTube. “It comes down to the number of dwellings in the small little space,” he said. Joshua North can stack cups better than most restaurant workers. He’ll stack them in several patterns with precision, all in quick fashion. Not bad for an eight-year-old.
Earlier this year, Joshua competed in a York Region sport stacking competition at St. Augustine Catholic High School in neighbouring Markham. With some 30 to 40 youngsters competing in the boys’ eight and under division, Joshua proceeded to win the title.
Last month, he took his skills to the next level where he competed in the World Sport Stacking Association’s Ontario championship at the same school. Facing the challenge of some 40 to 50 contestants in his age group, Joshua placed fourth. What Joshua accomplished did
not go unnoticed as he recently received an invitation to compete in a sport stacking competition at the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games in Houston, Texas July 27 and 28. “It is really exciting to have a See STACKER, page 12.
