2014 feierte ARCOTEL Hotels seinen 25. Geburtstag und auch vier weitere Hotels freuten sich über ein Jubiläum. Auf wie viele unterschiedliche Arten man das feiern kann, erfahren Sie ab Seite 9. Können Sie sich noch an das vertraute "Ritsch-Ratsch"-Geräusch der Kreditkarten erinnern? Nein? Unsere langjährigen Mitarbeiter schon! Sie erzählen ab Seite 6 Anekdoten der letzten 25 Jahre. Aber wir schwelgen nicht nur in der Vergangenheit. Unser Partner und Experte Des O'Mahony wagt mit uns einen Blick in die technologische Zukunft der Reiseindustrie (ab Seite 18).

In 2014 ARCOTEL Hotels celebrated its 25th birthday and four individual hotels also had anniversaries. You can find out just how many different ways there are to celebrate such occasions on page 9. Can you still remember the familiar click-click of credit card machines?

No, well some of our long-serving staff can!

If you turn to page 6 you'll find their favourite anecdotes from the last 25 years. But we're not just going to wallow in the past. Our partner and expert Des O'Mahony was bold enough to look into the technological future of the travel industry with us (page 18).

eit 25 Jahren geht ARCOTEL Hotels einen erfolgreichen, dynamischen Weg, der immer eine Vision verfolgt: Nämlich den Gästen das bestmögliche Service zu bieten, ihnen mit Herzlichkeit entgegenzutreten und ihnen das Gefühl zu geben, zu Hause zu sein.

Es hat sich seit der Gründung des Unternehmens durch KR Raimund Wimmer vieles getan. Im Jubiläumsjahr 2014 dürfen wir Ihnen unseren neuen Vorstand der ARCOTEL Hotels Martin Lachout vorstellen. Der 54-jährige Wiener hat bereits eine jahrelange Führungskarriere hinter sich, unter anderem war er für mehr als 25 Hoteleröffnungen und –übernahmen verantwortlich.

Birgit Koller-Böhm, PR & Communication Manager bei ARCOTEL Hotels, hat Dr. Renate Wimmer, Eigentümer der Unternehmensgruppe ARCOTEL, und Martin Lachout, Vorstand der ARCOTEL Hotel AG, zu einem Gesprächsaustausch getroffen:

A great deal has happened since the company was founded

by Raimund Wimmer. In the anniversary year 2014 it gives us great pleasure to introduce the new CEO of ARCOTEL Hotels, Martin Lachout. The 54-year-old from Vienna already has a long management career behind him, during the course of which he was responsible for more than 25 hotel openings and takeovers.

Birgit Koller-Böhm, PR & Communication Manager at ARCOTEL Hotels met Dr. Renate Wimmer, Owner of the ARCOTEL Group and Martin Lachout, CEO of ARCOTEL Hotel AG, to talk about their thoughts and ideas:

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: Dr. Wimmer, Sie haben nun ein halbes Jahr eine Doppelfunktion eingenommen, die des Eigentümers und zusätzlich die Rolle des CEOs, und wissen nun noch besser um die täglichen Herausforderungen.

Was meinen Sie, muss ein guter Vorstand an Fähigkeiten mitbringen?

Dr. Renate Wimmer: Die Basis sind eine fundierte Fachkompetenz sowie eine gesunde Portion Sozialkompetenz.

Beides vereint Martin Lachout in seiner Person. Ich bin daher überzeugt, die Vorstandsposition mit einem der Besten, die Österreichs Hotellerie zu bieten hat, besetzt zu haben.

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: Dr. Wimmer, for the last six months you have held a dual function, that of the owner and also that of CEO, which has given you an even greater awareness of the daily challenges of the job. What qualities and skills do you think a good CEO has to have?

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: Herr Lachout, Sie haben in Ihrer 35-jährigen Karriere bereits zahlreiche Erfolge gefeiert – was sind Ihre Erwartungen in Ihrer neuen Position?

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: Mr Lachout, in your 35-year career you can look back on numerous successes – what are your expectations in your new position?

Dr. Renate Wimmer: Proven expertise and well developed social skills. As Martin Lachout possesses both these things, I am confident we have filled the position of CEO with one of the best people the Austrian hotel industry has to offer.

Martin Lachout: Die Position des Vorstands einer Hotelgesellschaft verlangt einen hohen Grad an persönlichem Einsatz, den ich gerne erfülle. Besonders in den ersten Wochen will man die Hotels und das Team kennen lernen.

Martin Lachout: The position of CEO at a hotel company requires a high level of personal commitment that I am more than willing to bring to the job. In the first few weeks in particular, you want to get to know the hotels and the team.

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: Was wird bzw. soll sich denn bei ARCOTEL Hotels unter der Führung des neuen CEOs ändern?

Dr. Renate Wimmer: Mit der Bestellung von Martin Lachout als neuem Vorstand ist die Überarbeitung unserer Unternehmenswerte einhergegangen. Diese werden mit seinem frischen Wind in die Praxis umgesetzt. Außerdem wird der Fokus auf einer gesunden Expansion liegen.

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: What will, or should, change at ARCOTEL Hotels under the new CEO's leadership?

Dr. Renate Wimmer: The appointment of Martin Lachout as the new CEO was accompanied by a review of our corporate values.

These will be put into practice with a fresh wind. In addition, we will also focus on healthy expansion.

Martin Lachout: Ich plane den bereits eingeschlagenen Weg auszubauen. Sowohl die ARCOTEL Aktiengesellschaft als auch die einzelnen Hotelbetriebsgesellschaften sind solide aufgestellt.

Damit ist der Weg für eine weitere Expansion geebnet.

Martin Lachout: I am planning to consolidate and broaden the strategy that has already been adopted. Both the ARCOTEL AG and the individual hotel operating companies are very well positioned. This smooths the way for further expansion.

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: Was sind die ersten Schritte, die Sie, Herr Lachout, bei ARCOTEL Hotels vorhaben?

Martin Lachout: Frau Dr. Wimmer hat mich an Bord geholt, um die Ergebnisse aus Sicht unserer Gäste und der Gesellschafter zu verbessern. Gemeinsam mit den Teams in unseren zehn Hotels werden wir uns in der Jahresplanung 2015 viele Ziele stecken.

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: What are the first steps that you intend to take at ARCOTEL Hotels, Mr. Lachout?

Martin Lachout: Dr. Wimmer brought me on board to improve the results from the perspective of guests and shareholders alike. Together with the teams in our ten hotels we will set a number of goals in the annual plan for 2015.

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: Zum Abschluss: Wieso haben Sie sich für ARCOTEL Hotels entschieden?

Martin Lachout: Den Neuanfang als Vorstand von ARCOTEL Hotels sehe ich als große persönliche Herausforderung, welcher ich mich gerne stelle.

◼ Birgit Koller-Böhm: And to finish: Why did you choose ARCOTEL Hotels?

Martin Lachout: I regard this new beginning as the CEO of ARCOTEL Hotels as a great personal challenge and one that I am excited about taking on.

ünfundzwanzig Jahre – ein Vierteljahrhundert: Das ist eine lange Zeit! Nicht nur bei ARCOTEL Hotels ist viel passiert, auch die Technologie hat sich extrem verändert.

Langjährige Mitarbeiter erinnern sich zurück und erzählen amüsante Anekdoten aus ihrem Arbeitsalltag.

Wer kennt noch das typische "Ritsch-Ratsch"-Geräusch der Kreditkartengeräte? Statt einfachen Durchziehens durch ein Lesegerät musste damals die Kreditkarte damit "kopiert" und danach telefonisch ein Sicherheitscode erfragt werden.

Heutzutage wäre das ein mühsamer und langer Prozess, vor 25 Jahren aber war das ein riesiger Fortschritt im Bezahlungssystem. "Vor allem unsere internationalen Gäste haben diese Zahlungsart sehr zu schätzen gewusst. War es doch erstmals möglich, bargeldlos zu bezahlen. Kaum vorstellbar, wo man doch heute schon überall mit der Karte zahlen kann", erzählt Dorit Dubsky, Director of Finance & Accounting in der ARCOTEL Hotels Zentrale in Wien.

Who still remembers the typical click-click of credit card machines? Instead of simply drawing a card through a scanning device, a credit card had to be "copied" and then a security code obtained by telephone. Nowadays, that would be a long and tedious process, but 25 years ago it marked a massive advance in the payment system. "Our international guests in particular very much appreciated this form of payment. It was the first time that anyone was able to pay without using cash.

Unimaginable now, where you can pay by card anywhere, recalls Dorit Dubsky, Director of Finance & Accounting at ARCOTEL Hotels headquarters in Vienna.

Members of staff, who have been with the company a long time, look back and share some amusing anecdotes from their day-to-day work in years gone by.

The last two decades have witnessed the rapid development of cash register and booking systems. Even back then ARCOTEL Hotels was a pioneer and, together with the software firm protel, became one of the first hotel chains to introduce a

Sie ist schon länger dabei, als es das Unternehmen überhaupt gibt. Seit 1986 wacht sie als Meisterin der Zahlen über die Finanzen von ARCOTEL Hotels.

Dorit Dubsky Managing Director ARCOTEL Hotels & Resorts | Director of Finance & Accounting Can rightly be called a veteran of the ARCOTEL Group. She has been working here since before the Group was founded and with her head for figures has been watching over the finances at ARCOTEL Hotels since 1986.

Zuerst hatten wir für unsere Gäste in jedem Hotel mindestens eine Telefonzelle mit Münzfernsprecher, da waren wir damals up to date!

Softwarefirma protel als eine der ersten Hotelgruppen eine Buchungsfunktion auf der Hotel-Website eingerichtet. "Ja, es gab auch eine Zeit vor dem Internet", schmunzelt Nebojsa Simic, IT-Manager, "da haben wir vor allem Fax- oder Telefonanfragen bekommen. Nachdem sich die E-Mail etabliert hat, sind viele Buchungen auf elektronischem Wege bei uns eingegangen.

Kurz nach der Jahrtausendwende haben wir dann direkt auf unserer Website eine Buchungsfunktion installiert. Schon damals konnten wir so den besten Preis auf unserer Unternehmensseite anbieten."

Als international tätiges Unternehmen wurde nicht nur das Buchungssystem zentralisiert und vereinheitlicht, auch das Kassasystem der Restaurants und Bars wurde zusammengelegt.

Christian Spath, Marketing Manager, hat dabei Besonderes erlebt: "Ich war bei der Einführung des neuen Kassasystems live dabei. Das war ein toller Fortschritt, aber wie immer war aller Anfang schwer. So wunderten sich die Kollegen im ARCOTEL Nike Linz sehr über die Bestellung einer Portion Pljeskavica. Ist doch tatsächlich der Bon aus dem ARCOTEL Allegra Zagreb in Linz gelandet!"

booking function on the hotel website. "Yes, there really was a time before the Internet", chuckles Nebojsa Simic, IT Manager. "In those days, enquiries were mainly made by fax or telephone. Once e-mail took hold, we received many bookings electronically. Shortly after the millennium, we started offering a booking function on our website. Even then, this enabled us to offer the best price on our company website."

Given the international character of the company, it was only logical to centralise and standardise the cash register system in the restaurants and bars, and not just the booking system.

Christian Spath, Marketing Manager, had some interesting experiences in the process: "I was present when the new cash register system was introduced. It was a fantastic step forward, but as always, there were teething problems. I still remember how surprised colleagues were at the ARCOTEL Nike Linz when they received an order for a portion of Pljeskavica. An order slip from the ARCOTEL Allegra Zagreb really had landed in Linz!"

But progress has not been limited to online communication: ARCOTEL Hotels always provides state-of-the-art equipment, especially for business guests. "Initially, each hotel had at least one telephone booth with a coin-operated telephone for our

Christian Spath Marketing Manager Startete 1999 seine Karriere bei ARCOTEL Hotels als E-Marketing Manager und leitete danach den Bereich Corporate Affairs. Nach einer 7-jährigen "Pause" in der Selbstständigkeit kehrte er im April 2014 als Marketing Manager zurück.

Nebojsa Simic Managing Director ARCOTEL Hotels & Resorts | IT Manager Has been part of the IT team for 10 years, during which time he has been able to help many desperate colleagues. Since April 2014 he has held the position of second General Manager of ARCOTEL Hotels & Resorts alongside Dorit Dubsky.

Christian Spath Marketing Manager Began his career at ARCOTEL Hotels in 1999 as E-Marketing Manager, before becoming Head of Corporate Affairs. After a seven-year "break" as a freelancer, he returned to the company to take up the position of Marketing Manager in April 2014.

Aber nicht nur in der Online-Kommunikation gab es große Entwicklungen: Besonders für seine Business-Gäste stellt ARCOTEL Hotels immer topmodernes Equipment zur Verfügung.

"Zuerst hatten wir für unsere Gäste in jedem Hotel mindestens eine Telefonzelle mit Münzfernsprecher, da waren wir damals up to date! Nach dem technologischen Wandel wurden die obsoleten Telefone mit zeitgemäßen Business Cornern inklusive Computer, Internetzugang und Drucker ersetzt", sagt Dr. Renate Wimmer, Eigentümer der Unternehmensgruppe ARCOTEL, "besonders stolz bin ich darauf, dass wir als eines der ersten Business-Hotels Videokonferenzen anbieten konnten. Durch die Bündelung von drei ISDN-Kanälen konnten wir vor Skype und Co. dieses Service zur Verfügung stellen. Nicht besonders nachgetrauert habe ich hingegen den Overhead-Projektoren.

Kann man doch mit den heutigen Beamern wesentlich spannendere Präsentationen halten."

Eine besondere Entwicklung für den Gast war auch die Ablösung der Türschlüssel durch die Keycards mit Magnetstreifen.

Im ARCOTEL Onyx Hamburg wird bereits der nächste Entwicklungsschritt eingesetzt: Mittels RFID (Radio Frequenz ID) ist ein berührungsloses Öffnen der Tür machbar. "Durch das RFID-System ist die Öffnung der Zimmer sogar schon mit dem Smartphone möglich", so Simic, "wir testen gerade verschiedenste Möglichkeiten für unsere Gäste aus", verrät der IT-Manager.

"I am especially proud of the fact that we were one of the first business hotels to offer videoconferencing. By bundling three ISDN lines, we were able to provide this service before Skype and Co. I have to say, though, I didn't shed many tears for overhead projectors. Today, you can give much more exciting presentations with beamers."

The replacement of door keys by key cards with magnetic strips was a very exciting development for guests. At the ARCOTEL Onyx Hamburg we are already taking the next step: RFID (Radio Frequency ID) allows the touch-free opening of doors. "With an RFID system you can even open rooms with a Smartphone," explains Simic, "we are currently testing a range of options for our guests," the IT manager says .

ür das Jubiläumsjahr 2014 haben sich die Hotels der ARCOTEL Gruppe besondere Veranstaltungen einfallen lassen. Denn 25 Jahre müssen gebührend gefeiert werden.

So hat das ARCOTEL Onyx in Hamburg zu einer originellen "Reeperbahner Pistentour" eingeladen. Zuerst ging es in ein Casino, wo die Gäste ihr Pokerface üben konnten. Nach einem Abstecher ins St. Pauli Museum und einem kulinarischen Gruß aus Österreich wurde bei dem komisch-lustigen Musical "Heiße Ecke" herzhaft gelacht. Das ARCOTEL Rubin im Hamburger Stadtteil St. Georg organisierte einen Kniggekurs, wo die Gäste bei einem 3-Gang-Menü viele nützliche Tipps und Tricks in puncto Tisch- & Tafelkultur lernten.

The ARCOTEL Onyx in Hamburg, for instance, invited friends and guests to an original "Reeperbahn tour". The first stop was a casino, where guests practiced putting on their best poker face.

After a detour to the St. Pauli Museum and culinary greetings from Austria, there was plenty to laugh about at a performance of the musical comedy "Heiße Ecke". The ARCOTEL Rubin in the St. Georg district of Hamburg organised a dining etiquette course, where guests learned useful tips and tricks about the art of table culture during a three-course meal.

Das ARCOTEL Velvet in Berlin lud zu einem "Vienna meets Berlin"-Abend ein. Ein Wiener und Berliner Original erzählten Anekdoten aus ihren Städten und tischten den Teilnehmern traditionelle Köstlichkeiten auf. Da durften das Wiener Schnitzel und die Currywurst natürlich nicht fehlen! Auch in Stuttgart ging es zünftig zu. Bei Europas größtem Frühlingsfest, dem 76. Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest, stießen die Partner des ARCOTEL Camino auf den 25. Geburtstag der ARCOTEL Gruppe an.

The ARCOTEL Velvet in Berlin celebrated by organising a "Vienna meets Berlin" evening. An archetypal Viennese and Berliner related anecdotes from their home cities and served guests traditional specialities, which of course included Wiener Schnitzel and Curry Wurst! Stuttgart too put on a good party.

At Europe's biggest spring festival, the 76th Stuttgart Spring Festival, the partners of the ARCOTEL Camino raised their glasses in a toast to the ARCOTEL Group's 25th birthday.

Das ARCOTEL Nike besuchte mit seinen Gästen die Tanzperfomances "Stomp" und "Ballett Revolución" in Linz, das ARCOTEL Allegra Zagreb war beim irischen Tanzspektakel "River Dance".

en Anfang machte im März das ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin.

Als erstes Hotel der ARCOTEL Gruppe in Deutschland feierte es seinen 10. Geburtstag. Ein Flying Buffet, leckere Drinks, eine Live-Band und als besonderes Highlight eine Burlesque-Tänzerin: Die Crew des ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin hat sich einiges einfallen lassen, um den ersten runden Geburtstag angemessen zu feiern.

Unter dem Motto "Mittendrin bei Freunden" sind viele Gäste und Mitarbeiter im Boutique-Hotel zusammengekommen, um sich auszutauschen, auf erfolgreiche Jahre zurückzublicken und einfach einen schönen Abend zu verbringen.

Im April stießen Gäste, Weggefährten und Freunde auf den "Runden" des ARCOTEL Wimberger an. Denn es ist bereits 20 Jahre her, dass ARCOTEL Hotels Gründer KR Raimund Wimmer das Traditionshaus von Familie Wimberger übernahm und neu aufbaute. Das älteste Haus der ARCOTEL Gruppe ist aber kein bisschen altmodisch oder langweilig, denn neben der Soul-Band "Betty Blue" sorgte der Zauberkünstler ChristianChristian für einen stimmungsvollen Abend.

Large numbers of guests and staff members came together in the boutique hotel to chat, to look back on ten successful years and to simply enjoy a pleasant evening with one another, all under the motto "right in the middle of friends".

In April guests, associates and friends gathered to toast the ARCOTEL Wimberger on the occasion of its "big" birthday. For it is already 20 years since the founder of ARCOTEL Hotels, Raimund Wimmer, took over the venerable hotel from the Wimberger family and completely refurbished it. But there's absolutely nothing old-fashioned or boring about the oldest hotel in the ARCOTEL Group, because besides the soul band "Betty Blue", the magician ChristianChristian ensured that the party went with a swing.

So lud das ARCOTEL John F Team Mitte Mai zu einem "Tag der offenen Tür" ein: Beim Live-Cooking verriet die junge Küchencrew den zahlreichen Gästen ihre Tipps und Tricks für die perfekte Pasta. Im Kennedy Zimmer lüftete ein Experte unbekannte Geschichten des Hotel-Namensgebers, und im Panoramazimmer verewigte eine Schnellzeichnerin die Besucher auf humorvolle Weise. Als besonderes Highlight wurde unter den anwesenden Gästen ein speziell für das ARCOTEL John F angefertigter Schaukelstuhl verlost.

After so many old hands, the ARCOTEL John F is the real baby among our ten hotels! But even a fifth birthday wants to be celebrated. So the ARCOTEL John F team invited friends and guests to an Open Day in mid-May: At a Live Cooking station, the young kitchen brigade shared tips and tricks for perfect pasta with the many guests. In the Kennedy room an expert revealed unknown stories about the man who gave the hotel its name while in the Panorama room, a lightning sketcher produced humorous portraits of the visitors. The highlight of the day was when a rocking chair especially made for the ARCOTEL John F was raffled among the visitors.

Freitag, der 13. und auch noch Vollmond! Dieses besondere Datum hat sich das ARCOTEL Moser Verdino in Klagenfurt für sein 15-jähriges Jubiläum ausgesucht. Über 70 Kunden, Freunde und Kooperationspartner folgten der Einladung zu einem stimmungsvollen Sommerfest. Bei einem herzhaften BBQ mit schmackhaften Steaks von Joe Radingers Steak House und kühlen Drinks ließen die Gäste die letzten Jahre Revue passieren. Für sommerliche Stimmung sorgte die Band "Fernando", zu später Stunde wurde zu lateinamerikanischen Rhythmen das Tanzbein geschwungen.

Friday 13 and a full moon to boot! This was the unusual day that the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino in Klagenfurt chose for its 15th birthday party. More than 70 customers, friends and partners accepted the hotel's invitation to a wonderful summer party.

Guests looked back over the past years while enjoying a hearty BBQ with delicious steaks from Joe Radinger's Steak House and cool drinks. The band "Fernando" created a warm summery mood, while later on in the evening, guests danced to hot Latin American rhythms.

Im Jahr 2003 war ARCOTEL Hotels bereits auf eine beachtliche Größe von neun Hotels in Österreich, Kroatien und Tschechien gewachsen. Das Unternehmen florierte und streckte seine Fühler nach Deutschland aus. Im Laufe des Expansionskurses zeigte sich immer deutlicher, dass eine PMS-Umstellung notwendig ist, denn ein reibungsloser und übersichtlicher Ablauf mit verschiedenen Systemen in den einzelnen Hotels wurde mit der Zeit zur Herausforderung. Auch aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen und zur Steigerung der Servicequalität machte eine Zentralisierung Sinn.

By 2003 ARCOTEL Hotels had expanded to the point where it had an impressive nine hotels in Austria, Croatia and the Czech Republic. The company was thriving and put out feelers to Germany. During this growth period it became increasingly clear that the process management system would have to be reorganised, as over time the different systems used in the individual hotels had made ensuring smooth and transparent processes something of a challenge. Centralising them made sense for economic reasons and also with a view to increasing the quality of our service.

Als kompetenten Partner entschied man sich für die protel Hotelsoftware GmbH aus Dortmund, welche Technologie- und Servicelösungen entwickelt und vertreibt. 2003 wurde ein Reservierungssystem mit zentraler Kundendatenbank von protel implementiert, welches seitdem die unzähligen Buchungen der mittlerweile über 1700 Zimmer der ARCOTEL Hotels verwaltet.

The hotel chain chose Dortmund-based protel Hotelsoftware GmbH, a technology and service solutions developer, as its expert partner. In 2003 protel installed a reservations system with a centralised customer database, which since then has managed countless bookings for the more than 1,700 rooms at ARCOTEL Hotels.

ie werden wir uns zukünftig über Reisen informieren, wie buchen? Welche Online-Lösungen wird es geben?

Nach einem Rückblick auf die letzten 25 Jahre möchten wir nun auch die Zukunft näher betrachten. Des O'Mahony, CEO des irischen Technologie-Unternehmens Bookassist, hat mit uns beim Interview einen Blick in die Glaskugel gewagt.

Immer mehr Menschen buchen ihre Reise online. Da ist es oft zweitrangig, ob für eine Geschäftsreise oder den Urlaub.

Welche Buchungsmöglichkeiten wird es in Zukunft geben?

Die Zahl der Online-Buchungen steigt immer noch viel stärker als die Buchungen über die traditionellen Reisebüros.

Aufgrund der Vielzahl an Buchungsmöglichkeiten – egal, ob auf der hoteleigenen Website oder über die zahlreichen Online-Reisebüros – müssen die Kunden selektieren. MetaSuchmaschinen helfen dabei, denn diese leiten Suchanfragen an mehrere Suchmaschinen gleichzeitig weiter und liefern so gesammelte Ergebnisse. TripAdvisor hat sich zum Beispiel von einer reinen Informationsseite zu einer Buchungsplattform weiterentwickelt.

Besonders interessant finde ich die rasante Entwicklung der sogenannten "Sharing Economy", bei der Produkte nicht mehr nur gekauft und genutzt, sondern auch verliehen werden.

Dies betrifft im Besonderen auch den Tourismus, zum Beispiel beim Carsharing oder Couchsurfen. Anbieter wie Airbnb bieten Reisenden eine Alternative zu "traditionellen" Unterkünften wie Hotels oder Pensionen. Diese Plattform ermöglicht es Gästen, bei lokalen Bewohnern zu nächtigen.

ow will we obtain information about travel in the future, how will we book? What online solutions will be available? After looking back over the last 25 years, we would now like to look more closely at the future. Des O'Mahony, CEO of the Irish tech firm Bookassist dared to look into the crystal ball in an interview with us.

More and more people are booking online, no matter if it is for business or for leisure. Which other ways of booking will there be in future?

Online booking is still growing very rapidly compared to the travel agent model that hotels were used to. But online booking has also evolved quickly. We see now that it is no longer just "direct at hotel" or "via online travel agent". There is so much choice online that the customer needs to filter, and meta search has been the popular answer to this problem. TripAdvisor has moved from an information site to being a booking provider.

We see the sharing economy rising also, with sites like Airbnb giving travellers an alternative to "traditional" accommodation options allowing customers to book with apartment owners.

What I find particularly interesting is the rapid development of the so-called "sharing economy", where products are no longer just bought and used, but are also lent to others. This is having a particular impact on the tourism industry, in the form of car sharing or couch surfing, for example. Providers

Diese Entwicklung kann für die Hotellerie durchaus auch positive Seiten haben. So lassen sich etwa auch bei den dadurch erzwungenen günstigeren Zimmerpreisen letztendlich bessere Gewinnspannen erzielen, wenn der Kunde direkt bucht. The meta search idea, and the sharing economy are really all about empowering the individual accommodation provider, and that´s good news for the hotels.

Which platforms have the strongest influences on travel decisions?

People want to know before they buy. Any platform that makes people feel more secure about their decision is a positive influencer. Hotel review sites are strong performers and influencers, but the problem is that they average everyone's

Sie haben zuvor von der "Sharing Economy" gesprochen. Ein weiteres neues Phänomen ist "Social Travel". Was kann man sich darunter vorstellen?

Social Travel bezieht sich auf den Austausch von Informationen über das Reisen – man verlässt sich lieber auf die Tipps aus seinem sozialen Umfeld als auf die des Reiseveranstalters oder -büros.

Some platforms have introduced personalising ranking. There will no longer be just one #1 hotel in Vienna; instead each person will soon see the #1 hotel that suits their needs, based on the type of hotel they usually read about and their patterns on the site.

What about social media?

In my opinion, social media is not as popular an influencer as many people think. Many people are connected to others on social media, but it does not mean we all have the same taste or opinions.

Ultimately, hotels must be as clear and convincing on their own websites as possible too. The quality of websites and information is the strongest way to convince people of what you are offering.

You talked about the "sharing economy" earlier on.

"Social travel" is another new phenomenon. How would you describe that?

Wenn Freunde relevante Informationen online in sozialen Medien verbreiten, dann werden diese auch stärker die ReiseEntscheidung beeinflussen. Die Reiseindustrie sollte daher die soziale Interaktion der Gäste fördern und dieser nicht ängstlich gegenüberstehen.

Wie relevant werden technologische Entwicklungen wie Google Glass, Smartphones und -watches für den Reisemarkt sein?

Reisen ist eine Erfahrung! Und je einfacher es ist, diese Erfahrung einzufangen und zu teilen, desto besser. Social Media und Bewertungsplattformen haben die Reiseindustrie grundlegend verändert, neue Technologien werden diese Entwicklung noch mehr beschleunigen.

Bereits realisiert sind das automatische Check-in und Checkout. Außerdem ist es schon möglich, Zimmertüren mit dem Smartphone zu öffnen. Ich sehe die Herausforderung bei diesen neuen "Gadgets" besonders darin, dass die eigentlich simple Bereitstellung von gut funktionierendem Internet immer mehr nachgefragt werden wird. Die meisten Personen haben heute bessere Internetverbindungen zu Hause als im Hotel.

Besonders bei technisch-interessierten Gästen mit mehreren Geräten kann dies zur Frustration führen.

I think that social travel just relates to the concept of information sharing becoming more prevalent. As those friends of yours whose opinions you trust share more and more information online in a social format, then they become stronger influencers of your opinion. The travel industry should therefore encourage more social information sharing from their guests and not be afraid of it.

How relevant will the development of technologies such as Google Glass, Smartwatch and others be for the travel industry?

Travel is dominated by experience, and the easier it is to capture and share the experience the better. Social media and reviews have changed the travel industry completely, and new technologies will accelerate this change even more.

Automatic check-in and check-out, and room key access via smartphone is becoming a reality. But the issue is that the growth in technology has meant an ever-increasing need for more bandwidth. Most people now have better internet connections in their homes compared to hotels. For technology-savvy people, this means more frustration in hotels.

Online seinen Urlaub buchen – das ist mittlerweile für viele selbstverständlich. In Deutschland organisierte sich bis Anfang 2014 bereits mehr als jeder Dritte1 seine Reise online. Europaweit sind es schon 85 %2, die ihre Urlaubs- bzw. Geschäftsreise übers Internet planen und buchen. Hoteliers haben sich diesem Trend natürlich längst angepasst. Neben Direktbuchungen sind Beherbergungsbetriebe hingegen auch auf OnlinePortale angewiesen. Ein zweischneidiges Schwert – verlangen Booking.com, Expedia oder HRS teilweise, trotz anders lautender Kartell-Gerichtsentscheidungen, noch immer Bestpreis-Garantien für ihre Seiten. Andererseits verrechnen sie zusätzlich 15 bis 25 % Kommission auf den Bruttogesamtpreis. Für Hotelunternehmen bedeutet das gutes Abwägen und genaues Kalkulieren, wie die Kontingente bestmöglich verteilt werden, um der Auslastung und Preis-Budgetierung gerecht zu werden.

In Europe as a whole, 85 %2, plan and book holidays and business trips on the Internet. Hoteliers of course adapted to this trend a long time ago. As well as direct bookings, lodging establishments also depend on online portals. A double-edged sword, given that Booking.com, Expedia and HRS and others, sometimes still insist on best-price guarantees for their sites, notwithstanding court rulings forbidding this practice. At the same time, they also charge 15 to 25 % commission on the total gross price. For hotel operators, this means carefully weighing up and calculating the best way of distributing the contingents in order to achieve an optimal balance between occupancy and pricing.

Pain and pleasure are thus never far apart. A number of hotel chains in Germany, however, are refusing to simply accept this situation and are attacking the "might of the booking portals" with ideas of their own. They use mobile phone apps or special advertising tools to ask guests to make their bookings on the hotel's own website. ARCOTEL Hotels responded to this trend two years ago and, when it relaunched its website, introduced an innovative booking platform of its own targeting individual guests. This always offers the best price. Furthermore, business customers can use the business log-in to enquire easily and conveniently about room blocks at all ten ARCOTEL Hotels and then book them with a single click. rchitekt Harald Schreiber, bildender Künstler und Industriedesigner, hat in 25 Jahren die ARCOTEL Hotels mit seiner Gestaltung zu dem gemacht, was sie sind: individuell, Design-orientiert und einzigartig. Zum Jubiläumsjahr haben wir ihn in seinen eigenen vier Wänden in Wien besucht. Hier und in Kärnten, seiner zweiten Heimat, holt er sich Inspirationen für neue Projekte.

Sie haben bei der Gestaltung fast aller ARCOTEL Hotels mitgewirkt, worauf haben Sie dabei am meisten geachtet?

Bereits bei meiner ersten Zusammenarbeit mit ARCOTEL Hotels Gründer KR Raimund Wimmer war uns beiden wichtig, dass ein Hotel in die Stadt, den Platz und seine Umgebung eingebunden sein soll. Unser erstes Projekt, das ehemalige ARCOTEL Theatrino in Prag, war gleich eine große Herausforderung, da es sich um ein denkmalgeschütztes Jugendstil-Gebäude handelte.

Meine Aufgabe war es, mit der Gestaltung eine Geschichte zu erzählen und das Hotel zu einem unverwechselbaren Ort zu machen. Dieses Prinzip habe ich bis jetzt bei jedem Hotel-Projekt beibehalten.

You played an important role in designing almost all the ARCOTEL Hotels, what did you give most thought to?

Even on my very first project with ARCOTEL Hotels founder Raimund Wimmer, we both felt it was extremely important that a hotel should be integrated into the city, its place and its surroundings. Our first project, the ARCOTEL Theatrino in Prague immediately presented a big challenge, as it was a listed Jugendstil building. It was my job to tell a story with the design and to give the hotel a distinctive identity. I have followed this principle ever since with every hotel project.

Aus der anfänglichen Beratung ist dann eine komplette Projekt-Betreuung geworden, und das war gleichzeitig der Ausgangspunkt für unsere weitere langjährige Zusammenarbeit.

Das ARCOTEL Allegra Zagreb folgte als Nächstes. Dort wurde das vorherrschende mediterrane Lebensgefühl miteinbezogen.

Ein Hauptmaterial war der Bracer Marmor, der in Kroatien vorkommt – sogar das Wiener Parlament ist daraus hergestellt worden – damit ergibt sich eine schöne Verbindung zu Österreich.

Der Boden im ARCOTEL Allegra hat die Farbe Blau und erinnert an das Meer. Die Farben Orange, helles Beige vom Naturstein und tiefes Meeresblau sind die Hauptfarben, die sich durch das ganze Hotel ziehen.

n the 25 years since it was founded, the design work of architect, visual artist and industrial designer, Harald Schreiber, has made ARCOTEL Hotels what it is today: individual, design-oriented and unique. To mark our anniversary, we paid him a visit in his own four walls in Vienna. Here, and in Carinthia, his second home, he finds inspiration for new projects.

This initial consulting project then became a project management assignment and at the same formed the starting point for our long-standing co-operation. The next project was the ARCOTEL Allegra Zagreb, where I integrated the Mediterranean feeling that prevails in the city. One of the main materials was Bracer marble. Although it comes from Croatia, it was even used in the Parliament building in Vienna, creating a nice link to Austria. The floor in the ARCOTEL Allegra is blue, which brings to mind the sea. The colours orange, the light beige of the natural stone and a deep marine blue are the main colours that run through the entire hotel.

Haben Sie ein Lieblingshotel, das Sie besonders ins Herz geschlossen haben?

Man sagt immer, das letzte Projekt ist das Lieblingshotel, weil man da noch geistig ganz nah dabei ist. Mir fällt aber zu jedem Hotel eine spezielle Geschichte ein, und ich habe natürlich zu allen eine starke Beziehung. Beim ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin hatten wir viele Ideen, die schlussendlich nicht alle umgesetzt werden konnten. Trotzdem ist es etwas ganz Besonderes geworden.

Auf den Bettüberwürfen, Vorhängen und Wandteppichen sind Porträts von Stars zu sehen, die etwas mit Berlin zu tun haben, wie etwa Günter Grass, Bert Brecht, Marlene Dietrich und Kennedy. Der Boden ist mit einem roten Teppich mit der Weltkarte bezogen, im Sinne von "Du betrittst die Bühne der Welt". Durch die großen Fenster hast du das Gefühl, du bist in einer Loggia und von außen, als würdest du in einen Setzkasten blicken.

Do you have a favourite hotel that is especially close to your heart?

You always say that the most recent hotel is your favourite one because it is still very present in your mind. But I can think of a special story for every hotel and of course, I have a strong attachment to all of them. At the ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin we had a host of ideas, not all of which could be implemented in the end. Nonetheless, it still turned into something very special.

The duvet covers, curtains and tapestries are all decorated with portraits of stars who have something to do with Berlin, such as Günter Grass, Bert Brecht, Marlene Dietrich and Kennedy.

The floor is covered in a red carpet showing a map of the world, conveying the message “you’re stepping onto the world stage”.

Thanks to the big windows, you have the feeling that you’re sitting in a loggia and from the outside you have the feeling that you’re looking into a display cabinet.

Yes, exactly! The tapestry in the lobby with Marlene Dietrich and Nefertiti! I’m pleased that someone liked them that much, but of course, they should be left hanging in the ARCOTEL Velvet. (chuckles)

Es ist oft gar nicht möglich, alle kleinen Design-Details bei einem einzigen Hotel-Besuch zu bemerken. Ist das so gewollt?

Es ist so gedacht, dass einem nicht alles auf einmal auffällt.

Das Wichtigste war uns, dass sich die Gäste sofort wohlfühlen, dass im Hotel alles zusammenpasst und du einen sogenannten schönen Klang hast wie bei einem Orchester. Später, wenn dich

etwas interessiert und du herumschaust, entdeckst du plötzlich verschiedene Dinge und Details. Es soll nicht langweilig werden.

Umberto Eco zum Beispiel schreibt ja Kriminalromane wie "Der Name der Rose". Wenn man es zum zweiten Mal liest, entdeckt man viele zusätzliche Details. Aber auch schon beim ersten Mal, wenn man noch keine Hintergrundinformationen hat, versteht man die Geschichte. Es geht bei ARCOTEL Hotels um die Hintergründigkeit der Details, im Vordergrund steht, dass man sich wohlfühlt.

Ein Hotel sollte einer breiten Masse gefallen und gleichzeitig etwas Spezielles haben. Ist das nicht eine Gratwanderung?

Gäste mögen nur, was sie kennen. Einen Trend zu initiieren, ist deshalb schwierig. Man muss ein Visionär sein, um zu wissen, was kommt und gefällt. Es kann auch sein, dass es im ersten Moment mehreren nicht gefällt, aber beim zweiten Mal das Verständnis kommt. Im ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Wien haben wir die Farbe Rot in einer relativ knalligen Schattierung gewählt. Wenn du aber durchs Haus gehst, wird die Farbe neutralisiert und es wirkt ganz anders, als Gesamtes wird es harmonisch. Statt Purpurrot wie zu Kaisers Zeiten haben wir uns, um es zu überhöhen und in die heutige Zeit zu transferieren, für diesen knalligen Farbton entschieden.

Ihre Hotels sind alle sehr unterschiedlich gestaltet.

Woher holen Sie sich Inspiration?

Inspirationen hast du nicht auf einmal, sie sind ein Resultat deines Lebens. Du musst Interesse haben und zeigen. Ich analysiere alles, auch andere Hotels betrachte ich immer mit offenen Augen. Eigentlich kann man sich von überall Inspirationen holen, besonders aber inspiriert mich die Natur.

Later, if something interests you and you look around, you suddenly discover all sorts of different things and details. It’s not supposed to be boring. Umberto Ecco, for example, writes crime novels such as "The Name of the Rose".

When you read it for the second time, you discover lots of additional details. But even when you read it for the first time, before you have any background information, you understand the story. At ARCOTEL Hotels the details are in the background, the first priority is that you feel at home.

A hotel is supposed to cater to the mainstream yet at the same time to have something special to offer. Isn’t that something of a balancing act?

Guests only like what they’re familiar with. That makes it hard to launch a trend. You have to be a visionary to know what will come and what people will like. Sometimes it can happen that several people don’t like something when they see it for the first time, but then when they see it again they gradually start to understand. At the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Vienna we chose a rather loud shade of red. But when you walk through the building, the colour is neutralised and it makes a completely different impression; seen with everything else, it becomes harmonious.

Instead of purple as in the Emperor’s day, we chose a bright red to reinforce the statement and bring it into the present day.

Your hotels all have very different designs. Where do you take your inspiration from?

My first ideas are inspired by the place itself. But they are also the product of many years of experience. You can find inspiration anywhere, in nature, art, literature, music, in

In welcher Stadt oder Destination würden Sie gerne ein neues ARCOTEL Hotel gestalten?

Es sind ja schon viele Destinationen im Gespräch gewesen.

Von Belgrad über Bukarest, Kiew, München, Luxemburg usw.

Besonders interessant wären für mich zum Beispiel Paris oder Italien. Ich kann mir aber auch ein weiteres Hotel in Berlin, Hamburg oder Wien vorstellen. Mich persönlich würde auch Shanghai interessieren, da war ich schon sehr oft und dort ist vieles möglich.

Abgesehen von Hotel-Konzepten: Haben Sie noch ein anderes

In which city or destination would you like to design a new ARCOTEL Hotel?

Several cities have been under discussion - from Belgrade to Bucharest, to Kiev, Munich and Luxembourg etc. I would find Paris or Italy particularly interesting. But I can also imagine doing another hotel in Berlin, Hamburg or Vienna. Speaking personally, I would also be interested in Shanghai, as I have been there many times and there are all sorts of possibilities there.

Traumprojekt, das Sie unbedingt verwirklichen möchten?

Ich kann mir vieles vorstellen. Ob ein Einfamilienhaus, eine Wohnung oder ein Restaurant, das ist für mich ziemlich gleichgültig. Wichtig ist die Einstellung dabei, nämlich dass man auch bei kleinen Projekten genauso konzentriert und begeistert bei der Arbeit sein muss wie bei Großaufträgen.

Ich höre nicht auf, bevor ich nicht ganz zufrieden bin. Ein Traumprojekt für jeden Künstler ist oft ein sakrales Gebäude.

Das wäre vielleicht wirklich ein Traum. Ich würde es gar nicht auf irgendeine Konfession einschränken. Dabei gefällt mir das Gefühl, etwas zu schaffen, das einen zum Schwingen bringt.

Das beginnt bei der Bestimmung des Ortes, wo das Gebäude stehen soll. Früher haben sie ein viel besseres Gespür für die richtigen Orte gehabt als heute. Moscheen sind zum Beispiel alle Richtung Mekka ausgerichtet. Auch bei den Materialien durften früher nur Naturmaterialien verwendet werden und alles wurde mit Bedacht aufeinander abgestimmt. So etwas würde ich gerne einmal machen.

Leaving aside hotel concepts, are there any other dream-projects that you would really like to realise?

I can imagine all sorts of things. Be it a house, an apartment or a restaurant, it doesn’t really matter that much to me. What counts is your attitude - that you focus just as much on small projects and are just as enthusiastic about your work as you are about big projects. I don’t stop until I am completely satisfied. For an artist, a dream project often is a sacred building. Now that really might be a dream project. I wouldn’t restrict it to any single denomination or faith. I like the feeling of creating something that gives you a vibe. That starts with selecting the site for the building. In earlier times people had a much better feeling for the right place than they do today. Mosques, for example, are built facing Mecca. The builders were also only allowed to use natural materials and everything was carefully co-ordinated. I would like to do a project like that one day.

ien rüstet sich für den Ansturm. Die Bundeshauptstadt hat sich im Rennen um den Austragungsort gegen Innsbruck und Graz durchgesetzt! Sobald die Entscheidung öffentlich war, brach Hektik in den Sales-Abteilungen der Wiener Hotellerie aus. Auch wenn die "Eurovision Song Contest"Endausscheidung (kurz ESC) mit dem 23. Mai 2015 auf ein Pfingst-Wochenende fällt und dieses für gewöhnlich gut gebucht ist, erwarten die Wiener Hoteliers noch ein weitaus besseres Geschäft über zahlreiche Künstleragenturen und Medienvertreter.

Die internationalen ESC-Delegationen reisen in großen Teams an und werden länger Station machen als nur für den Abend der Endausscheidung. Der Stadt Wien kostet dieser Event rund 12 Millionen Euro, Wiens Hotellerie hofft dagegen auf einen "Super-Monat" an Einnahmen. Die Österreichische Hoteliervereinigung glaubt zumindest an einen neuen GästeRekord, und sogar der Handel öffnet am Sonntag seine Geschäfte. Über die Freude und Aufregung ist das Ziel klar: Wien will zum "Eurovision Song Contest 2015" ein großes Fest feiern und sich von seiner besten Seite zeigen. Wenn das nicht die beste Voraussetzung für eine Wien-Reise in eines unserer ARCOTEL Hotels ist?!

The international ESC delegations travel in large teams and will be staying longer than just the one night of the final. The event will cost the City of Vienna approximately 12 million euros, but Vienna’s hotel industry is hoping for a super month in terms of revenues. The Austrian Hotel Association at least believes there will be a record number of guests and even the shops will be opening on Sunday. Leaving aside the thrill and the excitement, the aim is clear: Vienna wants to celebrate the Song Contest 2015 with a big party and to present itself in the very best light. Im Winter ist die Gefahr ins Rutschen zu kommen größer, deshalb ist umsichtiges und langsameres Fahren angesagt. Die besondere Attraktion des Parks ist der 42 Meter hohe Schlaichturm.

Das neue Wahrzeichen Stuttgarts besteht aus einer kühnen StahlnetzKonstruktion, vier Plattformen und zwei gegenläufigen Treppen. Über 174 Stufen geht es aufwärts, mit einer herrlichen Aussicht in die Weite. Dass der Turm leicht mitschwingt, ist kein Zeichen für Baufälligkeit, sondern durchaus Wunsch des Stuttgarter Ingenieurs Professor Jörg Schlaich. An manchen Wochenenden kann schon mal ein Stau auf den auf- und abwärtsführenden Treppen entstehen.

The Killesberg park located only 3 km from the city centre in the north of Stuttgart is an oasis of tranquillity in the city. Especially in spring there is an abundance of flowers. One of the main attractions in the park is the 42m-high Schlaich tower. Stuttgart's new landmark consists of a bold cable-stayed construction, four obser vation platforms and two staircases running in opposite directions. Climb 174 steps and you'll be rewarded with a magnificeant view into the distance. That the tower sways slightly is not due to disrepair but was the intention of the architect, Stuttgart engineer Jörg Schlaich. The tower is so popular that on some weekends there can be real congestion on the staircases.

For Christina Xanthopulu, the park is the best experience in Stuttgart: "As it is so easily accessible, you can go and lie in the meadow after work and enjoy the last few hours of sun. As I love flowers so much and enjoy the variet y the park has to offer, I also enjoy coming in spring. In addition, I can also collect ideas for our ARCOTEL Camino. Rising above the Danube on a hilltop just north of Vienna is Burg Kre uzenstein, one of the most beautiful historic attractions in Lower Austria and a pop ular destination for family outings. Open dail y from 1 April to 1 November, the castle brin gs the Middle Ages to life with its unique collection.

On the other side of the Dan ube lays the 900 year old Klosterneubur g Monastery.

Each year on 15 November, the traditional Leopoldi Fest is held in hon our of St. Leopold, the founder of the monastery.

For four days a fair on the Town Hall Square offers fun and enterta inment for young and old alike, althoug h the highlight of the event is of course the "Fasslrutschen" (sliding down a wine cask), a tradition that dates back to the Middle Age s. The giant cask, which is five metres lon g and four metres high, was made in 170 4 and can hold 56,0 00 litres of wine!

Children, but also adults, slide down it, ma king a wish as they do so. And according to popular wisdom these wishes then come true.

Der Europa-Park in Klagenfurt wurde 19 67 eröffnet und ist ein er der größten Parks in Österreich. Zu seine m Namen kam der EuropaPark dadurch, dass im Park alle Flaggen der Partnerstädte von Klagenfurt ersichtlic h sind und die Weltoffenh eit der Landeshaupts tadt symbolisiert werde n soll.

"Nach einem anstren genden Arbeitstag gehe ich gerne in de n Park und schlende re durch die Anlage. Be sonders im Herbst ist es empfehlenswert, da die vielen bunten Blä tter ein beeindruckendes Sc hauspiel bieten.", so Sylvia Ehrhard. Aber der Eu ropa-Park ist das ga nze Jahr über einen Besuch wert: Im Winter ist man in wenigen Schritten am Wörthersee und kann an kalten Tagen wund erbar Schlittschuh laufen. Wenn Gäste im ARCOTEL Onyx Hamburg fragen, was sie während ihres Besuches auf keinen Fall verpas sen dürfen, hat Julia Eckert immer einen bun ten Tipp parat: "Mein Lieblingsort beginn t direkt neben dem ARCOTEL Onyx – im Park "Planten un Blomen". In den Somme rmonaten finden täglich die mittlerweile schon berühmten farbigen Wasserlichtspie le am Parksee statt. Synchron zur Mu sik, die eigens dafür komponiert wurde, bew egen sich die mit bunten Lichtern angest rahlten Fontänen."

Aber auch im Winter ist der Park einen Besuch wert. Denn mit der "INDOO Eisarena" befindet sich Europas größte Open-Air-Kunsteisbahn in Hamburg. Mit 4.300 m² ist sie größer als drei EishockeyFelder und lädt von Novem ber bis März zum Schlitt schuhlaufen ein. Jeden Freitag und Samstag rocken Liv e-DJs das glatte Parkett, und die Gemütl icheren können sich beim Eis stockschieße n versuchen.

Und das Beste ist: Bis zum Park "Planten un Blomen" sind es vom ARCOTEL Onyx aus nur wenige Meter Fuß weg.

Recycling kennen viele. Was aber steckt hinter Upcycling, und wo liegt die Verbindung zu Mode und Design? Beim Upcycling wird alten Materialien neues Leben eingehaucht. So kreiert Britta Eppinger mit ihrem Label "bolsos berlin" Taschen aus recycelten Werbebannern und Segeln. In Berlin-Neukölln von Hand gefertigt, gehen die außergewöhnlichen Einzelstücke mit ihren Trägern auf Tour durch den täglichen Großstadt-Dschungel. Aus Leder-, Jute- und Textilresten stellt das Design-Duo "Feine Hüte" traditionelle, moderne und ausgefallene Kopfbedeckungen, Mützen und Accessoires in der Wiener Straße in Berlin-Kreuzberg her. Für besonders Modebewusste entwirft Lotta Barlach, Designerin des Labels "Lotta", einzigartige und außergewöhnliche Kreationen aus unterschiedlichen UpcyclingMaterialien und Techniken. Auch Wilfried Pletzinger designt in seinem Atelier in Berlin-Mitte Unikate, die aus hochwertigen Materialien wie Sportswear, Strickware und Jeansstof fen in Handarbeit hergestellt werden.

But what is upcycling and what does it have to do with fashion and design? Upcycling is the art of breathing new life into old materials . Britta Eppinger, for example, uses recycled advertising banners and sails to create bags for her label "bolsos berlin". Made by hand in the Neukölln district of Berlin, the unusual single-edition designer items accompany their owners on their daily expeditions through the urban jungle.

The design duo "Feine Hüte" from Berlin Kreuzberg makes traditional, contemporary and quirky hats, caps and accessories from leather, jute and textile left-overs. For those with an extraordinarily welldeveloped fashion sense, Lotta Barlach, the designer behind the "Lotta" label, offers a range of unique and unusual creations made using a range of upcycling materials and techniques. Wilfried Pletzinger designs unique items in his atelier in Berlin Mitte, which are made by hand using high-quality materials such as sportswear, knitwear and jeans fabric.

eit Herbst 2013 bietet ARCOTEL Hotels ein eigenes Menü für vegan lebende Menschen an. Dieses Angebot fand bei den Gästen so viel Anklang, dass das ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Wien gleich zwei große Events für die Veganer-Szene organisierte: So tanzten im Februar 2014 über 300 Personen am Wiener Vegan Ball und während der Sommermonate wurde auf der Terrasse des Restaurants UNO vegan gegrillt.

Inzwischen leben 9 % der Österreicher fleischlos – das muss gefeiert werden, dachte sich der Verein "Vegane Gesellschaft Österreich" und lud Anfang des Jahres zum Wiener Vegan Ball ins ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser ein. Küchenchef Johann Schwarz tischte seinen Gästen ein selbst kreiertes veganes 4-Gänge-Menü auf, auch die innovative Snack- und Cocktailkarte war natürlich frei von tierischen Produkten. Die Gäste waren begeistert und Schwarz bewies, dass vegane Gerichte der Haute Cuisine um nichts nachstehen müssen.

Nine percent of all Austrians are now vegetarians – that's something to celebrate, thought the "Vegan Society Austria" and at the beginning of the year invited members and friends to the Vienna Vegan Ball at the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser. Our Executive Chef Johann Schwarz served his guests a 4-course dinner that he had created himself and of course it goes without saying that there were no animalbased products on the innovative snack and cocktail menu either. The guests were delighted and Schwarz had proved that vegan dishes are easily as good as those from haute cuisine.

Auch im Sommer bewies das Küchenteam seinen Ideenreichtum und Mut zur Innovation: "Im Sommer 2014 fand bereits die vierte Ausgabe unserer populären Kaiserlichen Grillabende statt.

Damit aber auch unsere vegan oder vegetarisch lebenden Gäste in den Genuss unserer kreativen Küche kommen, eröffneten wir das erste Mal unsere Grillsaison mit Köstlichkeiten auf rein pflanzlicher Basis", so der Küchenchef des Restaurants UNO. Die marinierten Seitansteaks, asiatischen Gemüse-Tofuspieße, das gefüllte Gemüse und die Veggi Burger waren so beliebt, dass der erste Abend schnell ausverkauft war.

So wurde das Angebot erweitert und über den Sommer fanden insgesamt vier vegane Grillabende statt.

In summer the kitchen brigade again demonstrated its creativity and innovative spirit: "In summer 2014 we ran our popular Imperial Barbecue for the fourth time. But to enable our vegan and vegetarian customers to enjoy our creative cuisine, we opened our barbecue season for the first time with purely vegetable-based food", said the Restaurant UNO's executive chef. The marinated seitan steaks, Asian vegetable and tofu skewers, stuffed vegetables and veggie burgers proved so popular that the first evening was soon sold out. The hotel therefore decided to broaden the range of food and then held four vegan barbecue evenings over the course of summer.

Veganer Topfenstrudel Rezept aus dem ARCOTEL Camino Stuttgart ZUTATEN FÜR 4 PERSONEN 500 ml Sojajoghurt, natur 300 g Cashewnüsse, ungesalzen 1 Pkg. Vanillezucker 4 EL Feinkristallzucker 2 EL Maisstärke 2 EL weißer Balsamico 1 TL Zimtpulver Saft und Abrieb einer Zitrone 2 Pck. Blätterteig, vegan Rosinen nach Belieben etwas Olivenöl Zubereitung Für die vegane Topfenmasse Cashewnüsse ca. 6 Stunden in Wasser einweichen und das Sojajoghurt in einem Kaffeefilter abtropfen lassen. Nach ca. 6 Stunden sollte sich das Wasser von den festen Stoffen im Joghurt gelöst haben. Diese Masse nun mit allen Zutaten, bis auf den Abrieb der Zitrone, in eine sehr gute Küchenmaschine geben und cremig pürieren.

Danach den Zitronenabrieb untermengen, optional Rosinen unterheben und die Masse auf dem Strudelteig verteilen. Es ist ganz normal, dass die Masse etwas flüssig ist, sie verfestigt sich beim Backen. Den Teig einrollen und den Strudel mit Olivenöl bestreichen. Bei 190 °C Umluft für ca. 25 Minuten backen.

Dazu passt selbstgemachter Zwetschgenröster!

Vegan Curd Strudel Recipe from the ARCOTEL Camino Stuttgart

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 PEOPLE 500 ml soy yoghurt, natural 300 g cashew nuts, unsalted 1 packet of vanilla sugar 4 tbsp. castor sugar 2 tbsp. corn starch 2 tbsp. white balsamic vinegar 1 tsp. cinnamon powder Lemon juice and zest 2 packets of strudel pastry, vegan Raisins (optional) a little bit of oil Preparation For the vegan curd mixture leave the cashew nuts to soak in water for about 6 hours and strain the soy yoghurt in a coffee filter. After about 6 hours, the water should have separated from the curds in the yoghurt. Place the curds in a very good kitchen mixer, add all other ingredients (except for the lemon zest) and puree until creamy. Fold in the lemon zest, the optional raisins and spread the mixture onto the strudel pastry. Don't worry if the mixture is somewhat watery, this is perfectly normal and it will become firmer while the strudel bakes. Roll up the pastry and brush the strudel with olive oil. Bake for 190 °C in a fan oven.

Serve with homemade stewed plums!

Kürbiskrokant-Parfait mit Kürbiskrokant und Zwetschgenröster Rezept aus dem ARCOTEL Nike Linz ZUTATEN FÜR 4 PERSONEN 100 g Kürbiskerne 100 g brauner Zucker 3 Eigelb Zubereitung Die Kürbiskerne in einer Pfanne ohne Fett bei mittlerer Hitze anrösten, bis sie zu duften beginnen. Dann aus der Pfanne nehmen und nun den Zucker karamellisieren lassen. Die Kürbiskerne zurück in die Pfanne geben und kurz darin glasieren. Ein Backblech mit etwas Öl einfetten und die Kürbiskerne dort auskühlen lassen.

In der Zwischenzeit die Eigelbe und den Puderzucker in einer Schüssel über dem heißen Wasserbad schaumig aufschlagen. Die Schüssel vom Wasserbad nehmen, und die Masse so lange weiterschlagen, bis sie kalt ist und bindet.

60 g Puderzucker 4 EL Kürbiskernöl 400 g Sahne, geschlagen etwas Öl Den ausgekühlten Kürbiskrokant mit Klarsichtfolie abdecken und mit einem Fleischklopfer grob zerschlagen. Die Stücke in ein hohes Gefäß geben und mit einem Pürierstab fein mahlen. Nun zusammen mit dem Kürbiskernöl unter die Eimasse geben, und alles gut vermengen. Die Sahne vorsichtig unterheben und die Masse entweder in eine mit Frischhaltefolie ausgeschlagene Kastenform oder in 4 Souffléförmchen füllen. Mit Frischhaltefolie abdecken, und das Parfait für mindestens 6 Stunden ins Gefrierfach stellen.

Mit Kürbiskrokant und Zwetschgenröster garnieren.

Pumpkin Cracknel Parfait with Pumpkin Cracknel and Stewed Plums Recipe from the ARCOTEL Nike Linz

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 PEOPLE 100 g pumpkin seeds 100 g brown sugar 3 egg yolks Preparation Roast the pumpkin seeds in a skillet over medium heat without using oil until you can smell their fragrance.

Remove from the pan and then caramelise the sugar.

Return the pumpkin seeds to the pan and glaze briefly.

Grease a baking tray with a little oil. Spread the pumpkin seeds flat on the baking tray and leave to cool.

In the meantime, beat the egg yolk and icing sugar in a bowl over hot water until frothy.

Remove the bowl from the hot water, continue to beat the mixture until it is cold and thickens. Once the

60 g icing sugar 4 tbsp. pumpkin seed oil 400 g whipped cream a little bit of oil pumpkin cracknel has cooled, cover it with cling film and crush with a meat tenderiser.

Then put the pieces in a tall container and grind finely with a hand-held blender.

Now fold in to the mixture together with the pumpkin seed oil, taking care to mix well. Carefully fold in the whipped cream and either fill the mixture into loaf tin lined with cling film or in 4 soufflé ramekins. Then cover with cling film and place the parfait in the freezer compartment for at least 6 hours. Serve with pumpkin cracknel and stewed plums.

INGREDIENTS FOR 1 PERSON 1 cl vanilla syrup 8 cl coffee 20 cl milk Whipped cream, chocolate sprinkle Preparation Mix a small diluted mocha (decaffeinated if desired) with hot milk and vanilla syrup. Instead of the typical bonnet of milk foam, the coffee is topped with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkle.

Esterházy-Schnitte Rezept aus dem ARCOTEL Wimberger Wien ZUTATEN FÜR 4 PERSONEN Esterházymasse: 5 Eiweiß 150 g Kristallzucker 1 Pkg. Vanillezucker 150 g Mandeln, fein gerieben Creme: 200 ml Milch 110 g Zucker Esterházymasse Das Eiweiß mit dem Kristallzucker zu steifem Schnee schlagen. Danach die Mandeln langsam einrieseln lassen, alles gut vermengen. Die Masse auf Papier streichen, bei 200 °C ca. 10 Minuten backen. Anschließend sofort in 70 mm dicke Streifen schneiden.

Creme Milch, Zucker, Eigelb und Gelatine im Wasserbad erhitzen, bis das Eigelb abbindet. Kaltschlagen und stocken lassen. Die weiche Butter mit dem Nougat schaumig rühren. Eiercreme langsam in die

4 Eigelb 3 g Gelatine 220 g Butter 70 g Haselnuss-Nougat 50 g Marillenmarmelade 50 g weißer Fondant etwas flüssige Schokolade geröstete Mandeln zum Bestreuen

Nougat-Butter einrühren. Die Streifen aus der Esterházymasse mit der Creme füllen, an den Seiten exakt verstreichen und kühlen. Die Oberseite mit Marillenmarmelade bestreichen, mit Fondant glasieren.

Sofort in den noch weichen Fondant mit Spritzschokolade der Länge nach Linien ziehen und diese mit einem kleinen spitzen Messer quer durchziehen. Fondant etwas antrocknen lassen, die Längsseiten der Streifen mit gerösteten Mandeln bestreuen und in Schnitten schneiden.

Esterházy Slices Recipe from the ARCOTEL Wimberger Vienna

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 PEOPLE Esterházy Mixture: 5 egg whites 150 g sugar 1 packet of vanilla sugar 150 g almonds, finely grated Cream: 200 ml milk 110 g sugar Preparation Beat the egg whites and the sugar until stiff. Then slowly scatter in the almonds and mix well. Spread the mixture onto paper, bake at 200 °C for approx. 10 minutes and then immediately slice into 70 mm thick layers.

Heat the milk, sugar, egg yolks and gelatine in a water bath until the egg yolk thickens. Beat until cold and leave to set. Beat the soft butter with the nougat until creamy then gradually stir the egg cream into the creamy butter.

4 eggs 3 g gelatine 220 g butter 70 g hazel nut nougat, unsweetened 50 g apricot jam 50 g white fondant a little liquid chocolate

Fill the layers made of the Esterházy mixture with the cream, spreading it carefully up to the edges and leave to cool. Coat the top layer with apricot jam and glaze with fondant. Immediately pipe lines of liquid chocolate in the fondant while it is still soft. Then use a small sharp knife to draw straight lines perpendicular to the long lines to achieve a feathered effect.

Allow the fondant to dry somewhat and scatter roast almonds over the long sides and cut into slices.

Kaffee-Punsch Rezept aus dem ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin ZUTATEN FĂœR 6 PORTIONEN 1 cl Vanillesirup 800 ml starker Kaffee 3 EL Zucker 1 Pkg. Vanillezucker 1 Zimtstange 4 EL Kirschwasser 6 Kugeln Vanilleeis Zubereitung Kaffee mit Zucker, Vanillezucker, Zimtstange und Kirschwasser in einem Topf erhitzen, aber nicht kochen.

Danach die Zimtstange entfernen und den Kaffee auf die Tassen aufteilen. Je eine Kugel Eis hineingleiten lassen.

Den Punsch mit Zimtstangen und Schokoladenraspeln garniert servieren.

Coffee Punch Recipe from the ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin

INGREDIENTS FOR 6 PORTIONS 800 ml strong coffee 3 tbsp. sugar 1 packet of vanilla sugar 1 cinnamon stick 4 tbsp. cherry brandy 6 scoops of vanilla ice-cream chocolate flakes and cinnamon sticks to garnish Preparation Heat the coffee with sugar, vanilla sugar, cinnamon stick and cherry brandy in a pan but do not allow to boil.

Remove the cinnamon stick and then pour the coffee into the cups. Add a scoop of ice-cream to each cup.

Garnish the punch with cinnamon sticks and chocolate flakes and serve.

Schoko-Bananen-Kuchen Rezept aus dem ARCOTEL Allegra Zagreb ZUTATEN FÜR 4 PERSONEN Biskuit: 6 Eigelb 6 Eiweiß 6 EL Zucker 6 EL Mehl, glatt 150 ml Öl 3 EL Kakao 1 Pkg. Backpulver 1 Pkg. Vanillezucker

Creme I: 500 g Banane 100 g Zucker 2 Spritzer Amaretto 2 Blättchen Gelatine

Biskuit Das Eigelb steif schlagen und mit den übrigen Zutaten zu einer homogenen Masse rühren. Etwa 20 Minuten bei 180 °C im Backofen backen.

Creme II Die Schokolade über Dampf schmelzen. Abkühlen lassen, danach die Milch dazugeben und verrühren, bis eine Art Pudding entsteht. Die Sahne steif schlagen und nach und nach mit der Schokolade verrühren.

Creme I Die Bananen mit einer Gabel zerdrücken, damit sie Mousse-artig (breiig) werden. Den Amaretto und Zucker dazugeben und einrühren. Einige Zeit stehen lassen und danach die aufgeweichten Gelatineblättchen dazugeben. Alles verrühren und ziehen lassen.

Creme II: 500 g dunkle Schokolade 500 ml Milch 250 ml Sahne

Das gekühlte Biskuit in eine Form setzen und mit den beiden Cremen abwechselnd füllen. In den Kühlschrank stellen und über Nacht kühlen. Danach den Kuchen aus der Form stürzen und dekorieren.

Chocolate and Banana Cake Recipe from the ARCOTEL Allegra Zagreb

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 PEOPLE Sponge: 6 egg withes 6 egg yolks 6 tbsp. sugar 6 tbsp. flour, plain 150 ml oil 3 tbsp. cocoa 1 packet of baking powder 1 packet of vanilla sugar

Cream I: 500 g banana 100 g sugar 2 squirts of amaretto 2 sheets of gelatine

Sponge Beat the egg white until stiff and stir in the other ingredients until you have a smooth mixture. Bake in the oven for approx. 20 minutes at 180°C.

Cream II Melt the chocolate over steam.

Leave to cool, add milk and stir until the mixture takes on the consistency of pudding. Whip the cream until stiff and gradually mix with the chocolate.

Cream I Soak the gelatine in water until soft and mash the banana to a pulp. Add the amaretto and sugar and stir in. Leave to stand for a while and then add the gelatine leaves. Mix everything together and leave to rest.

Cream II: 500 g dark chocolate 500 ml milk 250 ml cream

Put the sponge into a loaf tin and fill with alternate layers of the creams. Place in refrigerator and leave to cool overnight. Then remove the cake from the tin and decorate.

Café Chocolat Rezept aus dem ARCOTEL John F Berlin ZUTATEN FÜR 1 PERSON 1 Tasse starker Kaffee 1 Riegel Schokolade, edelbitter je 1 Prise Zimt und Kardamom 2 TL brauner Zucker 2 cl Crème de Cacao Kakaopulver zur Deko

Zubereitung Den Kaffee erhitzen (nicht kochen) und die Schokolade dabei unter Rühren schmelzen. Zimt, Kardamom, Zucker und Kakaolikör dazugeben, dann umrühren. Alles in ein Tee- oder Punschglas gießen und mit Kakaopulver garnieren.

Café Chocolat Recipe from the ARCOTEL John F Berlin

INGREDIENTS FOR 1 PERSON 1 cup of strong coffee 1 bar of finest dark chocolate 1 pinch of cinnamon 1 pinch of cardamom 2 tsp. brown sugar 2 cl Crème de Cacao cocoa for topping Preparation Heat the coffee (do NOT boil) and stir in the chocolate.

Add the cinnamon,cardamon, sugar and cocoa liqueur, and then stir. Pour everything into a tea or punch glass and top with cocoa.

Apfel-Kürbis-Crumble mit Ahornkuchenbröseln und Orangen-Crème frâiche Rezept aus dem ARCOTEL Rubin Hamburg ZUTATEN FÜR 4 PERSONEN 1 Orange 150 g Crème frâiche 2 EL Quittengelee 100 g Hokkaidokürbis 50 g Cranberrys, getrocknet 1 Apfel

4 EL Honig 30 g kalte Butter 30 g Kuchenbrösel 2 EL Ahornsirup 1 EL Mehl Ribiseleis

Zubereitung Die Orange abreiben, auspressen und den Abrieb mit Crème frâiche und Quittengelee glatt rühren. Den Hokkaidokürbis entkernen und fein würfeln. Cranberrys kurz in Wasser kochen, dann den Apfel vierteln, entkernen und auch in feine Würfel schneiden.

Anschließend die Kürbiswürfel, Apfelwürfel, Cranberrys, Honig und den Saft der Orange miteinander vermengen.

Die Masse in 4 gebutterte Auflaufförmchen geben.

Danach die kalte Butter klein schneiden und zusammen mit den Bröseln, Ahornsirup, Mehl und einer Prise Salz zu einem Teig verkneten. Den Teig in grobe Streusel reiben und auf der Masse verteilen. Zum Schluss bei 200 °C 15 Minuten backen. Auf Tellern anrichten und mit Ribiseleis garnieren.

Apple and Pumpkin Crumble with Maple Cake Crumble and Orange Crème Frâiche Recipe from the ARCOTEL Rubin Hamburg

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 PEOPLE 1 orange 150 g crème frâiche 2 tbsp. quince jelly 100 g Hokkaido pumpkin 50 g cranberries, dried 1 apple

4 tbsp. honey 30 g cold butter 30 g cake crumbs 2 tbsp. maple syrup 1 tbsp. flour red currant ice-cream

Preparation Grate the orange and mix with the crème frâiche and quince jelly until smooth. Remove the seeds from the Hokkaido pumpkin and dice finely. Briefly boil the cranberries, quarter the apples and remove the seeds and dice finely. Then mix the pumpkin cubes, apple cubes, cranberries, honey and the juice of the orange together. Put the mixture in 4 buttered ramekins.

Then cut the cold butter into small pieces and add to the crumbs, maple syrup, flour and a pinch of salt and knead to a dough. Crumble over the mixture. Cook for approx.

15 minutes at 200°C. Serve with red currant ice cream.

Vegane Trilogie von der Zwetschge Rezept aus dem ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Wien ZUTATEN FÜR 4 PORTIONEN Zwetschgen-Kartoffel-Tascherln: 1 kg mehlige Kartoffel 50 g Grieß 150 g Stärkemehl 150 g glattes Mehl Salz, Muskat 100 g Powidl / Pflaumenmus 100 g Nussbrösel

Zwetschgenröster: 1 kg Zwetschgen 1 Stk. Zimtrinde 5 Stk. Gewürznelken 20 ml Wasser 200 g Kristallzucker 1 Zitrone

Zwetschgeneis: 1 kg Zwetschgen 250 ml Soya Cuisine 100 g Zucker 50 g Powidl / Pflaumenmus etwas Sliwowitz (Zwetschgenbrand)

Zwetschgen-Kartoffel-Tascherln Die Kartoffeln schälen, achteln, weich dämpfen und noch warm durch eine Kartoffelpresse drücken. Die Masse mit Grieß, Stärkemehl, Mehl, etwas Salz und Muskat rasch durchkneten. Zu einer Kugel formen, mit Mehl bestauben und ausrollen. Mit einem Ringausstecher Kreise ausstechen. Powidl in die Mitte geben und Tascherln schließen. Zur besseren Fixierung nochmals mit einer Gabel andrücken. Danach ca. 7 Minuten in heißem Wasser kochen.

Zwetschgeneis Zwetschgen klein schneiden und mit Soya Cuisine, Zucker, Powidl und etwas Sliwowitz in den Mixer geben und durch mixen.

Danach in die Eismaschine füllen und frosten lassen.

Zwetschgenröster Wasser, Zucker, Gewürzsäckchen (mit Zimt & Nelken) und Zitrone in einen Topf geben und aufkochen lassen. Halbierte und entsteinte Zwetschgen beigeben und langsam weich dünsten.

Dabei laufend umrühren. Zitrone und Gewürzsäckchen entfernen.

In Einmachgläser füllen, erkalten lassen und im Kühlschrank lagern.

Die gekochten Tascherln in einer Brösel-Nuss-Mischung wälzen und mit Zucker bestreuen. Das Zwetschgeneis zu Kugeln formen, den Zwetschgenröster dazugeben und mit Minze dekorieren.

Vegan trilogy of the plum Recipe from the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Vienna

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 PORTIONS Plum potato dumpling: 1 kg potatoes 50 g semolina 150 g starch flour 150 g flour salt, nutmeg 100 g plum jam 100 g breadcrumbs Plum ice-cream: 1 kg plums 250 ml soya cuisine 100 g sugar 50 g plum jam a little bit of Sliwowitz

Stewed plums: 1 kg plums 1 piece of cinnamon 5 pieces clove 2 cl water 200 g sugar 1 lemon

Plum potato dumpling Cut the peeled potatoes into pieces and steam cook them.

Then use the potato ricer to smash them. Mix the potatoes with semolina, starch flour, flour, salt and nutmeg and knead thoroughly. Form the dough into a ball, roll it out and cut out circles with a round pastry cutter. Fill these with the plum jam and fold them into pockets. Simmer gently in water for about 7 minutes.

Plum ice-cream Cut the plums into small pieces. Then fill soya cuisine, sugar, plum jam and Sliwowitz into a blender. Blend the mixture, pour it into an ice-cream machine and cool.

Stewed plums Put water, sugar, cinnamon, clove and the squeezed lemon into a pot and cook gently. Add the plums and let them steam cook and stir continuously. Remove cinnamon and clove and fill the mixture into jars. Then leave the mixture to rest in the refrigerator.

Roll the boiled pockets in a mixture of sugar and breadcrumbs.

Shape the plum ice-cream into scoops and decorate with plum sauce.

How is Vienna's hotel sector developing in comparison to leisure tourism? Can policymakers, business and tourism work together even more effectively in future to ensure that Vienna remains an attractive destination for business travellers in the long term?

These were just some of the questions that were keenly debated at the industry meeting at the ARCOTEL Wimberger moderated

by Christoph Berndl, editor-in-chief of "Messe & Event". ARCOTEL Hotels organised the event with the aim of encouraging closer contact among the guests and facilitating the transfer of knowledge.

Lachout konnte die Diskussion mit Zahlen, Daten und Fakten unterlegen und aus seiner Expertise viele Beispiele aus anderen Touristenstädten wie München und Prag anführen. "Im Städtevergleich zeigt sich, dass München ein viel höheres Aufkommen bei Geschäftsreisen hat.

Das ergibt sich schon allein aus der Tatsache der Top-Firmen, die hier ansässig sind und sich in München angesiedelt haben.

The industry meeting also gave guests an opportunity to get to know Martin Lachout, the new ARCOTEL Hotel AG CEO. Lachout was able to contribute facts and figures to the discussion as well as his own experience, citing many examples from other tourist centres such as Munich and Prague. "A comparison of cities shows that Munich has a much greater volume of business travellers. This is due to the number of top firms that are based here and who have located to Munich. Vienna has some catching up to do in this regard."

as war kein April-Scherz: Am 01. April 2014 übernahm Jenny Krumme mit erst 25 Jahren die Leitung des Boutique-Hotels ARCOTEL Velvet in BerlinMitte.

Vor beinahe zwei Jahren begann die beeindruckende Karriere der gebürtigen Bonnerin bei ARCOTEL Hotels. Nach ihrem Studium "International Hospitality Management" und einem anschließenden Management-Traineeship unterstützte sie die Kollegen des Quality Managements als "Assistant to Quality Manager".

Ab August 2013 war sie stellvertretend für den Resident Manager tätig und konnte so bereits Erfahrungen auf Management-Ebene sammeln.

"Ich schätze besonders die familiäre Atmosphäre im ARCOTEL Velvet. Unser Motto 'Mittendrin bei Freunden' übermitteln wir nicht nur unseren Gästen, sondern auch in der Zusammenarbeit untereinander wird es täglich gelebt. Ich freue mich, dass ARCOTEL Hotels jungen Menschen eine Chance gibt und blicke positiv in die Zukunft", freut sich Jenny Krumme auf neue Herausforderungen.

Jenny Krumme from Bonn began her impressive career at ARCOTEL Hotels two years ago. After studying "International Hospitality Management" and undertaking a Management Traineeship, she started out by supporting her colleagues from the Quality Management department as an "Assistant to Quality Manager". From August 2013, she stood in for the Resident Manager and was thus able to gain experience at the management level. "I especially appreciate the family atmosphere at the ARCOTEL Velvet.

Our motto 'Right in the Middle with Friends' is not just something we communicate to our guests; we put it into practice every day as we work with one another. I am delighted that ARCOTEL Hotels gives young people a chance and am very positive about the future," says Jenny Krumme as she looks forward to new challenges.

Seit einem halben Jahr ist sie nun schon als Rooms Division Manager alleinverantwortlich für das 85 Zimmer umfassende ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin tätig und ist damit die jüngste Hoteldirektorin in Berlin! "Ich habe mich schon gut in meine neue Position eingelebt", erzählt die Wahl-Berlinerin, "trotzdem gibt es noch immer viel zu lernen. Jeden Tag warten spannende Herausforderungen auf mich. Genau das ist es, was ich an meinem Beruf liebe!"

Six months ago she was appointed Rooms Division Manager, a position in which she has sole responsibility for the 85-room ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin, making her the youngest hotel director in Berlin! "I have already settled into my new position," says the young woman who has made Berlin her home. "Nonetheless, there is still a great deal to learn. Every day, I face exciting challenges. That's exactly what I love about my chosen profession!"

m 05. Mai 2014 wurde zum zweiten Mal der "Deutsche Fußball Botschafter"Award vergeben, diesmal im Auswärtigen Amt in Berlin, das direkter Nachbar des ARCOTEL John F ist.

Die Initiative "Deutscher Fußball Botschafter" zeichnet deutsche Trainer und Spieler aus, die durch ihr Auftreten im Ausland zum positiven Image von Deutschland in der Welt beitragen.

Außenminister Frank-Walter Steinmeier hielt eine Rede, und Steffi Jones vom DFB überreichte der Gewinnerin Monika Staab die diesjährige Auszeichnung. Einen Preis für sportliches und soziales Engagement im Ausland erhielten auch "Chelsea FC"-Kicker André Schürrle und Trainerlegende Rudi Gutendorf. Nach der Preisverleihung ging es für ausgewählte Gäste ins ARCOTEL John F. Dort wartete ein kulinarisches Buffet auf sie – danach wurde an der TOWN BAR des ARCOTEL John F mit General Manager Sebastian Ömer weiter bis nach Mitternacht gefeiert. Zuvor nutzte PR & Communication Manager Birgit KollerBöhm die Chance, ein Gespräch mit Rudi Gutendorf zu führen:

The German Football Ambassador initiative honours German coaches and players whose personal example contributes to promoting a positive image of Germany abroad. The German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier gave a speech and Steffi Jones from the German Football Association (DFB) presented this year's award to the winner Monika Staab. Chelsea striker André Schürrle and the legendary trainer Rudi Gutendorf also both won a prize for their sporting and social activities. After the award ceremony, a select number of guests went on to the ARCOTEL John F, where a buffet awaited them. After that, the celebrations continued until well after midnight in the TOWN BAR of the ARCOTEL John F in the company of General Manager Sebastian Ömer. Before that, though, PR & Communication Manager Birgit KollerBöhm took the opportunity to talk to Rudi Gutendorf:

Meine Mutter hat mir früher immer gesagt, lass den Fußball, damit kannst du kein Geld verdienen ...

Herr Gutendorf, wie ist es zur Idee gekommen den "Deutschen Fußball Botschafter" zu gründen?

Ich war der erste sogenannte "Deutsche Fußball Botschafter im Trainingsanzug", den die Bundesregierung bzw. das Auswärtige Amt hinausgeschickt hat. 1964 hat mich noch Bundeskanzler Konrad Adenauer persönlich verabschiedet mit den Worten: "Machen Sie's jut, Herr Jutendorf, sonst holen die einen von der Sowjetzone!" Mittlerweile habe ich hunderte Nachfolger wie Gerd Müller und Franz Beckenbauer. Sie alle sind stolz, als Botschafter von Deutschland und des Fußballs in die Welt hinauszugehen und zu helfen. Um dieses Engagement mehr zu würdigen, gründete Roland Bischof 2011 diese wunderbare Initiative.

Sie sind Schirmherr der Initiative und als ehemaliger Trainer gelten Sie als jener mit den meisten internationalen sozialen Engagements und stehen damit sogar im Guiness-Buch der Rekorde. Woher haben Sie die Motivation, so unermüdlich weiterzuarbeiten?

Ich habe schon im Gymnasium den Wunsch gehabt, den Beruf Fußball mit meinem Hobby Reisen zu verknüpfen. Das hat mich immer glücklich gemacht und deshalb mache ich das noch bis heute. Man hat mir schon oft gesagt, das sei doch viel Arbeit, aber ich hatte nie diesen Eindruck gearbeitet zu haben, es hat mir einfach Freude gemacht. Meine Vision war immer, den ärmeren Menschen einen Sinn zu geben, Drogensüchtige von der Straße auf den Fußballplatz zu bekommen. Wenn man diesen Menschen etwas zeigen kann, nehmen sie das gerne auf, das war meine Erfahrung.

Es gibt ja viele breitenwirksame Sportarten, warum ist gerade Fußball mit sozialem Engagement verknüpft?

Das ist eine gute Frage. Meine Mutter hat mir früher immer gesagt, lass den Fußball, damit kannst du kein Geld verdienen, du rennst einer leeren Kutsche nach! Aber ich habe diesen Sport

Mr Gutendorf, how did the idea of the "German Football Ambassador" come about?

I was the first so-called German Football Ambassador in a Track Suit to be sent out by the German Government, or to be precise, by the Foreign Ministry. In 1964 Chancellor Konrad Adenauer personally saw me off with the words "You'd better do a good job Mr. Gutendorf; otherwise they'll come and get you from the Soviet zone"! Since then, I've had hundreds of successors, including Gert Müller and Franz Beckenbauer. They are all proud to go out into the world and help others as ambassadors for Germany and football. My vision was always to give those living in poverty some meaning in their lives, to get drug addicts off the streets and onto the football pitches. In my experience, if we can show these people something they are willing to take it up.

You are the patron of the initiative and among the former trainers you are considered to have the greatest number of international social commitments; in fact, you are even in the Guinness Book of Records. Where do you get your motivation to continue working so tirelessly?

Even at grammar school I wanted to combine a career in football with my hobby of travelling.

That's something that I've always enjoyed a great deal, which is why I continue to do it even today. People have often said to me that it is a lot of work, but I've never had the feeling I was working. I was simply doing what I enjoyed.

They are many sports with mass appeal, why is it football that is so closely associated with social engagement?

That's a good question. My mother always used to say to me, "forget football; you'll never earn any money with it, you're simply chasing an empty dream!" But I was so passionate about this sport because my father was also an enthusiastic amateur player. Today, you can earn a great deal of money in this sport and that is a tremendous motivation for

so geliebt, weil auch mein Vater als Amateur begeistert gespielt hat. Heute kann man mit diesem Sport sehr viel Geld verdienen, und es ist eine wahnsinnige Motivation für viele junge, talentierte Fußballer. Viele spielen ja in England und in der ganzen Welt als Profis. Und ich finde, da habe ich mit meinen Kollegen den Grundstein dafür gelegt und es ist uns nicht schwer gefallen, weil wir das gerne gemacht haben.

Es gibt einfach so viele einmalige Erlebnisse: Zum Beispiel war ich als Nationaltrainer beim König von Tsonga eingeladen. Auf den FidschiInseln habe ich mit dem Ministerpräsidenten Konditionstraining gemacht; einmal hat er mit der Pistole das ganze Parlament hinausgejagt.

Das sind Dinge, die man sonst nie erlebt! Aber das Gravierendste und Furchtbarste habe ich in Ruanda erlebt, wo sich eine Million Tutsis und Hutus gegenseitig getötet haben. Die hatten keine Pistolen, sie haben sich mit Macheten den Hals abgeschnitten und deren Kinder habe ich trainiert. Was früher die katholischen Missionare getan haben, habe ich abends nach dem Training am Lagerfeuer gemacht, ihnen nämlich erklärt, dass Rache nichts bringt. Sie haben das verstanden und der Herrgott war bei mir. Dann haben wir noch mit einer neu aufgestellten Nationalmannschaft gegen die Elfenbeinküste – damals die beste Mannschaft Afrikas – unentschieden gespielt. Und da hat auch niemand der 40.000 Zuschauer nach Hutus und Tutsis gefragt, sondern die haben geschunkelt. Seitdem weiß ich, was Fußball alles bewirken kann.

Was ist denn das Ziel des "Deutschen Fußball Botschafters"?

Die gute Idee weiter in die Welt zu tragen, denjenigen eine Bühne zu geben, die so engagiert zum positiven Image von Deutschland beitragen, und noch weitere soziale Projekte nachhaltig zu unterstützen. Und das ist mir persönlich auch gelungen, ich habe eine Auszeichnung von Bundesaußenminister Frank-Walter Steinmeier erhalten, die ich stellvertretend für alle Kollegen, die da draußen sind, entgegengenommen habe.

many young, talented footballers. Many play professional football in England and in other countries all over the world. And in my opinion, I and my colleagues laid the foundation for this, and it wasn't something we found difficult to do because we enjoyed doing what we did.

There are simply so many unique experiences to be had: For example, as the trainer of the national team, I was invited to visit the King of Tonga. In Fiji I did some fitness training with the Prime Minister; once he chased everyone out of parliament with his pistol. Those are things you'd never experience otherwise! But the most serious and most awe-inspiring thing was what I experienced in Ruanda, where a million Tutsis and Hutus had slaughtered each other. In the evening, after training, sitting around the camp fire, I did what the Catholic missionaries always used to do: explain that revenge serves no purpose. They understood me and the Good Lord was with me. Then our newly established national team drew with Ivory Coast, which at the time was the best team in Africa. And at that moment, none of the 40,000 spectators were asking who was a Hutu and who a Tutsi, they were all cheering and swaying. Since then, I know what football can do.

What is the goal of the "German Football Ambassador"?

To advertise Germany and by personal example to show German professional sports and the country in a positive light. And in this regard, I have achieved some success. The President of Germany has just awarded me the Cross of the Order of Merit, which is a very high honour indeed. I accepted on behalf of all my colleagues who are working out there.
