St. Patrick’s Parade
Saturday, March 15th at 10 am
Come to Historic Stockyards City, in Oklahoma City, on Saturday, March 15th for the annual St. Patrick’s Parade! It is a celebration of Oklahoma Irish heritage and the western culture of Stockyards City! This family friendly event begins at 10:00 a.m. You won’t want to miss this!
The parade will be led by the Slash O Ranch Longhorns. You can see St. Patrick, marching bands, bagpipes, Irish dancers, the Shriners, cool cars, community groups, equestrian entries and much more.
We are excited to have Elliot Nelson, CEO of the McNellie’s Group, as this year’s Grand Marshal! Elliot fell in love with Irish pubs and hospitality during an exchange program in Dublin his junior year of college. He pursued this passion and opened James E. McNellie’s Pub in his hometown of Tulsa in 2004, three years after finishing school. His passion for pubs morphed into a passion for restaurants and development.
In the past 20 years, Elliot has opened 30 restaurants, comprised of 17 different concepts: everything

from the original Pub to fine dining, from sushi to bowling alleys. Ten of the unique concepts are in downtown Tulsa, where Elliot has also done over $300 million in real estate development, encompassing over 20 historic rehabilitations, as well as new multifamily, retail, and office projects. McNellie’s Group also operates in Midtown Oklahoma City and downtown Little Rock.
Today, as CEO of the McNellie’s Group, Elliot oversees strategy, finances, community relations and key day-to-day decisions for a company that includes over 1,000 employees. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He has been married to his wife, Meg, for 20 years, and has three children – Jed 19, Claire 17, and Declan 14.
Through it all, Elliot has remained passionate about Ireland and Irish culture. He visits Ireland annually and has taken over 50 employees to learn about the pubs and the culture that started it all. In all his endeavors, he remains committed to his original passions around community and culture inherent in the classic pubs he loves.
Following the parade hang around for some fun activities for kids. Balloon art, face painting, activities, and games will be held in the grassy area east of Little Joe’s Boots. McTeggart’s Irish Dancers will be performing at Rodeo Cinema, 2221 Exchange Avenue, at 11 am.
Admission to the event is free. Come to Stockyards City for the St. Pats fun and stay for the day! Visit the shops, have a great meal, and enjoy the authenticity of the area.
The parade route begins at the intersection of Exchange Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue, it will head west down Exchange Avenue to Agnew Avenue and then go south to S.W. 15th Street.

Grain and Grange: Crafting Legacy Through Design
An Interview with Owner Todd Miller
BY: Sunny Martinez
In the heart of Stockyards City, Grain and Grange stands as a testament to craftsmanship, creativity, and resilience. Owner Todd Miller shares the journey that led him to establish this unique furniture store and the inspirations that fuel his designs.
Building a Foundation in Metalwork
Miller’s creative journey began in 1997 with the launch of Old World Iron, a company specializing in elegant stair railings, entry gates, and library doors for high-end homes in Oklahoma City. Inspired by a high school teacher who introduced him to metalwork, welding, and forging, Miller found an artistic outlet that shaped his future.
Over time, his ventures expanded. Architectural Metal Designs (AMD) was born as a sister company to create metalwork for commercial spaces. In 2017, Miller acquired Vintage Reclaimed Lumber, further diversifying his materials and opening the door to furniture design. Recognizing the need for an outlet to showcase these creations, Miller launched Grain and Grange in February 2018.
Why Stockyards City?
The decision to open Grain and Grange in Stockyards City stemmed from both necessity and opportunity. After a sudden street closure impacted business at Vintage Reclaimed Lumber, Miller sought a new location nearby. The Stockyards City business owners and community’s welcoming spirit with the area’s rustic, western aesthetic aligned perfectly with the store’s industrial farmhouse style. “The culture of the Stockyards really lends itself to the look of my furniture,” Miller explains. “With so many visitors coming for shows, rodeos, and

events, our rustic, western, industrial vibe resonates with them.”
Crafting Unique Pieces from Coast to Coast
Grain and Grange are renowned for its custom furniture, blending reclaimed wood with metal elements forged in-house. While customers can purchase items directly from the showroom, many opt for personalized pieces tailored to their specifications.
Among the most unique commissions is a set of 15-foot-tall, 22-foot-wide metal spurs designed for a hotel roundabout. The store is also producing a limited edition of conference tables featuring wheels inspired by old train wheels, each built using reclaimed boxcar doors. “We work coast to coast,” Miller notes. “From bronze bar stools in Florida to full-house furnishings in Lake Tahoe, our work is as diverse as our clients.”
Finding Inspiration in Industry and the Southwest
Balancing the demands of running three businesses with the need for creative inspiration can be challenging. For Miller, visual references are key. “I have to see thousands of images to get ideas registered in my mind,” he says. His designs often draw from the Southwest, vintage transportation,
and industrial elements, blending these influences into pieces that are both functional and artistic. “The most rewarding part is delivering a piece to a client and seeing their excitement—that’s what keeps me going.”
Collaborations and Community
Collaboration plays a vital role in Grain and Grange’s success. While 75% of the showroom’s offerings are crafted in-house, the store also features carefully curated items from trusted vendors, including seating, lighting, and decor. Local artisans, such as leatherworkers and glassmakers, often contribute to custom projects, ensuring that each piece is unique. “We have to be selective,” Miller notes. “But when we find talented artists who complement our aesthetic, it’s a win-win. We showcase their work, and they help us bring our designs to life.”
Looking to the Future
As Miller reflects on his career at age 60, thoughts of legacy are increasingly on his mind. With one son already working in the business and another considering joining after college, the future of Grain and Grange may lie in the family. “Whether it’s a direct handoff to my sons or expanding through franchising, I see this as a legacy,” Miller says. “I want to see what we’ve built continue to grow and thrive.”
From a small-town metalshop in Cashion, Oklahoma, to crafting bespoke furniture for clients across the country, Todd Miller’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, creativity, and perseverance. Grain and Grange stands not just as a furniture store, but as a living legacy of craftsmanship that will continue to shape spaces— and inspire others—for years to come.

SYC Business Spotlight: Mick’s Automotive
An Interview with Owner Micky Schroeder
BY: Sunny Martinez
How Did Mick’s Automotive Begin?
Mick’s Automotive started by chance about 16 years ago when I began working out of my personal home garage with a few clients. As my business grew, my homeowners’ association kindly asked me to relocate to a commercial space. In 2013, I found a location at 2005 Exchange Ave. in Stockyards City that met my business needs at the time. Over the past 12 years, we have grown into the premier body shop in Oklahoma City. On April 1, 2025, we will be relocating just a block down the road to our new facility at 2115 Exchange Ave. This new location will feature a larger mechanic shop, gated space for awaiting jobs, and new electric charging stations to accommodate our clients.
What’s an Interesting Fact About Your Business?
We are the only Tesla-approved collision center in Oklahoma City and are proud to be Tesla-certified technicians. Our reputation has attracted clients from all over Oklahoma City, the state, and even the country. Next week, we have a client coming in from as far as Oregon. Specializing as a Tesla-certified dealer has allowed us to serve customers nationwide.

Mick’s Automotive is a one-stop shop for all collision-related needs, including AC repair, auto body dent repair, interior repair, auto restoration, transmission repair, alignment, and more. While we are certified Tesla mechanics, we also work on most other makes and models.

City Council approves Ross Heights and Stockyards City as new Strong Neighborhood Initiative communities
BY: Kristy Yager - City of OKC News
Oklahoma City Council designated Ross Heights and Stockyards City as new Strong Neighborhood Initiative (SNI) areas earlier this month.
SNI is a targeted neighborhood revitalization program, funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, that works alongside neighborhood residents to improve their neighborhoods over a five-year period. Examples of SNI projects include home repairs, new home construction, sidewalks, parks, tree plantings, public art, commercial district improvements, afterschool programs and improved public spaces.
“Both Ross Heights and Stockyards have seen incremental economic growth, but they need a boost, so our hope is that our SNI model of thoughtful and holistic revitalization will help the neighborhood residents and businesses reach their full potential,” City Program Planner Shannon Entz said.
The SNI boundaries for the Stockyards City area are Agnew Avenue to the Oklahoma River to the railroad right-of-way near Birch Street. The Ross Heights boundaries are NE 23rd Street to NE 16th Street and Lottie Avenue to Martin Luther King Avenue. Ross Heights is in Ward 7, and Stockyards City is in Ward 6.
“Being part of OKC’s SNI means Stockyards City will now be able to foster a sense of community and collaboration by enhancing local infrastructure, promoting safety, and encouraging beautification efforts
that contribute to a vibrant, welcoming environment,” Stockyards City resident Elizabeth Larios De Farrell said. “This initiative will empower residents to actively participate in decision-making, improve walkability, and create a shared vision for sustainable growth, ultimately strengthening the neighborhood’s identity and connection among its members.”
“The revitalization of a neighborhood is how to help people stay in their homes,” Ross Heights Neighborhood President Wallace Johnson said. “My hope is real. I’m going to talk to neighbors who I haven’t talked to before.”
SNI projects are intended to catalyze private investment in places that have seen disinvestment. Since the program began 11 years ago, the City has invested $18 million in SNI neighborhoods, and more than $56 million in private dollars has been invested.
The program currently works with three neighborhoods: Capitol Hill and Metro Park in Ward 6 and Martin Luther King in Ward 7. However, Capitol Hill and Metro Park are set to “graduate” from SNI in June.
Previous SNI neighborhoods include Capitol View, Classen Ten Penn, Classen North Highland Park and Culbertson East Highland.
Spotlight SYC Pet of the Month: Cooper, the Parade-Loving Pup!
Stockyards City has its fair share of parade stars, but none quite as charming as Cooper! This 4-year-old American Bully is a local celebrity, known for riding shotgun in the pickup that pulls the First United Bank float.
Cooper belongs to Linda Rook, who works at First United Bank at the Stockyards City branch. Whether it’s the Stockyards City Parade or another community event, you can bet Cooper will be there, soaking up the cheers and waving hands from his prime parade perch.
So next time you spot the First United Bank float rolling by, don’t forget to wave at Cooper—he might just give you a tail wag in return!
